It would be more fun if you were playing with me but you're a raging asshole. That being said running around with a knife is by far the most fun there is to be had in this game.
Getting people into groups is fucking hard. It would have been a lot fucking easier but oh no IW had to fucking block Party chat because they're a bunch of fucking morons.
How exactly does "range" work for weapons? It's a general measure of how much damage is reduced at long range for each shot from your weapon, right?
I ask because I'm using the SCAR with a silencer for my current fave build (with Scavenger/Cold-Blooded/Ninja + Claymores) and after trying several different weapons with silencers it seems like the SCAR is the only one I can reliably kill with at longshot range. I guess that's because, even though several other assault rifles have similar range stats, the SCAR has the highest individual bullet damage. Does this sound right?
I mean, regardless of the reason, I'm going to stick with it for now--I haven't unlocked the higher level assault rifles yet (only level 38) and the SCAR has given me the best results.
uh if you're in a party then you'll be on the same game no matter what game type you're playing. you just can't have party chat and screw over t he rest of your team with lack of communication.
you sir, are the moron
yo, k- no idea what range really does, because that should just be accuracy. wild guess maybe bullets start arcing down after a certain range? maybe range relates to bullet velocity? dunno.
The M-14 was my weapon of choice in the first game, and the FAL seems to be the closest thing to it. Unfortunately, it really isn't the same.
i used the single shot G3 in mw1, so the FAL is my current go to assault rifle
I guess the FAL is closer to the G3. In general, though, I'm disappointed that there isn't more assault rifles. I mean, why not at least include all of the weapons from CoD4?
I was looking forward to unlocking the Aug HBAR thinking it would be an improvement over the RPD. But honestly it seemed to have less power. That combined with the smaller mag, had me switching back to the RPD in no time.
I read somewhere (this thread?) that range determines the maximum distance at which bullets deal 100% damage. Beyond that, it scales down pretty quickly.

This is correct.

does anyone have the m240 yet, how much does its damage compare to say the RPD and the HBAR in game?
I ask because the weapon stats says it should be like pretty much any of the 5.56 assault rifles, but the M240 is a high-caliber, crew serviced machinegun. . . and if they wanted a lighter less damaging machinegun with some semblance of control why not just include the M249 instead?
edit: you know, the one that is actually meant to be used in the way the game uses it?

Ugh, that makes me so upset. I was really looking forward to it because in SP that gun was amazing. Guess i'll try switching to the RPD from the MG4. The RPD seemed to have a little too much recoil bounce, but i guess i'll give it another try.
The ACR is excellent for its high fire rate and minuscule recoil. It's the Vector of the Assault category.
testing it in the museum* a little bit the ACR has crazy accuracy compared to the scar, on full auto preaty much all shots would land centre mass from medium range on a human sized target, the scar sprays a lot more, but is probably better on long range while firing single shot/short burst due to the high bullet dmg, I think the ACR has also a faster rate of fire, but can't test that now, given that i am not at home
so I would take the scar if you like to stay back and shoot at dudes from far away and the ACR if you prefer a more up close playstile, it's kinda like Baur vs Voss in BF2142
*just shoot at the wall and compare the patterns, the acr one is preaty much a very close circle, while the scar is all over the place (that's adjusting both for recoil)

Yeah, thanks for filling me in with info I had 3 weeks ago. Really helps.
Party should be used to get groups together. Someone new pops in asks for invite, go go go. Got a group going and someone doesnt make it into the game? Party chat allows them to be vocal about it. It allows us to keep the group more organized.
Instead, we cannot use it because a bunch of little girls whined about a couple of people using it for naughty business.

haha, yeah. i wish i had more abilities unlocked to find them! ugh i suck at online play so much. :?
I'm glad private chat still works in MW2, since I only usually play with 1 friend at a time it works out ok.
I expected third person playlist to be lame, but I'm actually enjoying it a lot so far. It's not really balanced or anything but it's still a good time.
I'm only at level 16 but the famas is my favorite thus far. I tried to do the scar when i first got it but the slow fire rate just killed it for me. Also it seems like having the scope on the FAMAS makes it slower to aim down and it actually seems to reduce my peripheral vision. I might just be all about the FAMAS + grenade launcher for a while until I can try the FAL (i've liked the m14 in previous r6 games and this seems like the closest thing to it).
Also why does the grenade launcher you get fire slower than the famas grenade launcher?
One would think a dedicated grenade launcher wouldn't be slow as shit compared to an add on.

Yea its not like camping can't be defeated. Use smoke grenades or flash bangs. Get better with a grenade launcher to put one right through what ever window they are sitting in. Or just get to a higher level and Javelin the fuck out of them.

I don't normally come over to these parts, but I've got a question for you guys.
I just got MW:2 for PC, yet I am unable to play. I did a full install, and steam required that I download updates for both the single- and multi-player versions of the game. Things is, these updates are HUGE. Steam doesn't give me a filename or any size information, but I've been downloading for at least 12 hours straight and I'm not even half done, putting the total filesize at something like 3-5 gigs.
I can't imagine every person with the PC downloading this (and indeed I have a friend with a PC who is happily playing away while having downloaded no such update). I'm new to steam, but I tried everything I could to either launch the game or disable updates. Launching just opens a window that says its updating, with no other activity. Disabling updates merely pauses the updates, causing the same empty-progress window to open where nothing ever happens. All this happens for both the single and multiplayer versions as listed on steam. Launching the game through the CD doesn't work.

your CD is broken or something (very likely, its happening to LOTS of people), steam is probably downloading the whole game.

Weird. I'd say uninstall it/remove it from your Steam Games List (right-click on it in the Steam Games List window) and re-install from the DVDs again.
Yes, there IS an update but it's definitely not 3 to 5 gbs. Seems like an incomplete install happened and Steam is just downloading the missing files or some such.
You can also just put in your cd key into Steam directly and just download everything via Steam itself. Keep in mind it's about a 11gb to 12gb download.

Javelin only really beats campers on Karachi, where the only places to camp are rooftops.
The explosion is glorious, especially when you see a body fly across the map and land on the bus.
The problem with campers is the way the spawns work. 3 campers on one side of the map means our team spawns on the other side, with roamers pointing directly at us. TDM is more about who can pitch a tent faster.

I also thought that was pretty stupid. Why bother taking up the slot of akimbo machine pistols, a shotgun or other useful sidearm with a grenade launcher that fires ridiculously slow when you can just use an attachment that's faster.

Consider using a subgun kit and sweeping corridors. Stay moving and look for alternate routes. The only map I've really seen that constantly gets bogged down is Wasteland in the tunnels, and those guys are M79 food. And the TI flare is your friend.
I also thought that was pretty stupid. Why bother taking up the slot of akimbo machine pistols, a shotgun or other useful sidearm with a grenade launcher that fires ridiculously slow when you can just use an attachment that's faster.

Also some useful info straight out of the files themselves (MW2).
Details on things that are not guns, of what was able to be ripped out of the fastfiles (so far) thanks to gagarin.
Sentry Gun has 1000 points of health.
Explosives deliver 7x their damage against a Sentry.
A Melee attack will instantly disable the Sentry.
The Sentry has the potential to fire continuously for eight seconds.
It recovers fully in four. If it "overheats", it will take eight seconds.
Both Helicopters and the Pavelow have 1500 health.
The AI controlled Helicopters use three of the four same old Threat Factors.
Class Threat has been removed, presumably due to the Secondary Weapon diversity.
The Harrier has 3000 health.
Luckily, lots of things will instantly kill it (or at least really hurt it (and all other aircraft).
A Stinger, Javelin and other killstreaks (like the remote missile and AC130 guns) will instantly destroy it.
The RPG7 and AT4 will do whatever damage they do AND an extra 900 points of damage.
The AC-130 apparently only has 1000 health.
This is probably offset by the fact that it has two flare countermeasures and is way up in the air.
It lasts 40 seconds. All three guns are all available. They have a reload time of:
25mm = 1.5
40mm = 3.0
105mm = 5.0
The Care Package and Emergency Airdrop have a chance of dropping anything (except nukes).
Care Package has a much higher probability of dropping other low-Streak hardpoints, while the Emergency Airdrop evens up the chances for nearly anything up to the EMP.
On perks and a few other things:
The wait time between bursts for the FAMAS and M16 is still 0.2 seconds.
Stopping Power is still 1.4x against players.
Stopping Power Pro increases its damage against vehicles by 1.65x.
Danger Close is a bit stronger than it's predecessor, 1.4x increase in damage (rather than 1.25).
Blast Shield equipment cuts damage down to 0.45x, ensuring almost always surviving anything.
Blast Shield and Danger Close will cancel each other out.
Semtex stuck to the player will ignore Blast Shield.
Commando adds 176 units of measurement to its 64 inch melee strike. It does not apply to the shield bash.
Commando Pro does indeed cut off all damage for any fall... and it appears that a lethal fall will make the player do a barrel roll instead.
Rapid Fire attachment has the same effect as Double Tap, multiplying time between shots by 0.75x (other way around, Rate of fire by 1.33x)
FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) attachment has the same effect as Deep Impact, greatly improving penetration through walls and objects.
Painkiller adds 200 health to the player. If the player suffers at least 101 points of damage while Painkiller is active... he gets a reward. Throwing knives and melee attacks will still kill in one hit.
One Man Army allows the player to change his class on the fly in 6 seconds.
One Many Army Pro cuts that down to 3.
Sleight of Hand still cuts reload time in half. Pro halves both sighting in and out.
Lightweight will multiply movement speed by 1.1x
Lightweight Pro will multiply the delay between sprinting and being able to attack by 0.6x.
Ninja Pro and SitRep Pro will multiply Player footstep sound by 0.25x and enemy footsteps by 4x respectively.

if you'll notice, ACR pretty much fires 2 bullets for every one SCAR bullet.
