To respond to something I saw mentioned a long while back, which was "Why haven't all the infected starved by this point?":
Given the following:
1) One of the atmospheric behaviors for common infected is standing around and barfing.
2) Many infected have blood-soaked arms up to their elbows.
I'd say that they haven't forgotten how to kill and eat stuff. I'd say the virus shuts down upper cognition without touching more instinctive thought-- the infected are basically animals who'll do whatever feels right at the time. They probably wind up eating all kinds of nasty shit, which might not be good for them in the long run but is certainly enough to survive on temporarily.
Yeah but it's not nessecarily that they've been around since first infection; the commons you see are probably folks that've been zombified for a few days but not for any real extended period of time. I remember one person who was messing around with AI and watching their idle animations noting that on occasion you'd see a common who's in an absolutly horrific state and who would just lie down and die, so presumably they're not uber-zombies that can keep going for years and years, you're just dealing with the latest generation of infected.
And I really don't think there's any real kind of cannibalism going on, otherwise you'd see a lot more bodies that would look like they were ripped apart and cannibalized, the ones you DO see of that type tend to be rare and for all we know might've been an infected who got the axe/chainsaw treatment.
Considering the virus has the mutating ability to change regular people into shit like tanks, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch if it also completely changed the metabolism of zombies so they simply last a really long time
yeah the drastic alterations to the body that the infection makes pretty much puts it squarely into the "crazy sci-fi virus" territory where the laws of physics and biology are soundly, thoroughly broken
Well, in my interest in FPS has waned over time. Even Deadspace couldn't capture my attention. But this is a notable exception. Online teamplay zombie action? Count me in. I had a lot of fun with the original L4D and looking at all the new infected in the sequel...
I also liked Shadowrun but despite having many new gameplay elements and a unusual setting it lacked atmosphere.
This is the future of FPS. Creative setting, creative enviroment, compeditive teamplay, great atmosphere - its got it all. They really managed to keep the Counterstrike foundation and transfer and improve on that in an awesome setting.
This game rocks. Big time.
Even if you dislike FPS i would recommend at least getting the demo and try it, so you don't miss anything important.
After playing for a while now I'm going to have to concur that Rochelle is probably the most bland of all the survivors. Maybe it's just me, but it's like her chief identifying personality trait is that she tries to avoid swearing, but not really.
I mean sure, the other's only really have one personality trait too (Nick: Jerk, Coach: Food, Ellis: Anecdotes), but theirs seem to be more entertaining.
EDIT: Maybe that's it. Maybe she exists to be the foil to everyone else's weirdness.
I love what they did to the scoring system for VS. Getting all four survivors to the end is worth all of 100 points now, and health is irrelevant. The other thing that really matters is distance traveled, which is as it should be.

Is the instaspawn for infected on panic trigger supposed to be an advantage or disadvantage?
Because as an advantage it fuckings sucks, particularly so on Carnival Finale as a Boomer where the game places you in wide open, 200 ft away with no cover nearby.

aww man, was just going to get an expert campaign organized too. Already completed Dark Carnival on expert (screw you DC4 Crescendo!), I hunger for more punishment!

I think it's supposed to be a disadvantage because they are getting rushed by so many common infected and such. Would probably never see survivors win finale events if the ifnected were able to spawn right behind them and such.

I did try the PC demo but there's no way I can play it on anything but the lowest settings, bleh.

I can see my self playing a lot of this. No more camping in a corner or any of that shit for finales which is a god send.

Nick is the best.

I dicked around with my sound files and came up with this.
Personally I think it makes Dark Carnival 10x more epic. Watch it all the way through, there are several songs.

the real downside to online distribution, as far as i'm concerned
or any centralized dependence for playing games whatsoever
I don't think so, if you look closely many of the zombies are emaciated and have ribs showing.
To be fair, it's not like XBL hasn't had its own downtimes / spectacular meltdowns.
