Apparently putting FF10-2 in the thread title is like throwing a live wildebeest into a swimming pool filled with flesh-eating beetles.

I mean, I didn't hate the game, I just couldn't care about it enough to play for more than a few hours before deciding it wasn't for me.

Will XIII have the mission structure of X-2? God I hope so.

Also I hope there are hunts in the manner of XII.

Not sure what you're talking about, never finished the hunts.

    Never finished XII.

Now that I think about it, I think it's the only FF I played that I didn't finish.

    Yep...same here.

I remember getting halfway through the story, hoping it was going somewhere. It didn't, then I got bored and stopped playing.

So the logo looks a billion times cooler, and why did they get rid of cloth movements and hair movements in-game? I guess I don't remember it outside of places like Mt. Gagazet where there was a lot of wind.

For a game about changing clothes a bunch, FFX-2 had a really terrible selection of hats. And they didn't even do anything with their hair really : (

I think the game would easily make it into my top five PS2 RPGs if it weren't for this fatal flaw.

I enjoyed the hell out of FFX-2. I love the new ATB. I love the bitching-ass job system. I love looking at a world finally pull itself out of a cycle of destruction, and the repercussions thereof. I love witnessing Yuna realizing that the price of being able to live... is having to live, and the almost paralyzing freedom she now has. Just the feeling of- "I've been training all my life to die for Spira, what the hell am I gonna do now?"

And... God help me, I love the cheesy "Charlie's Angels meets JPop" atmosphere. It was so ridiculous it wrapped back around to hilarious.

Started playing FFX again, and just played the Luca Goers Mandatory Match. First half, Datto scores at 2:15, only for Jassu to be a complete retard and not help Botta stop Bickson's shot at 4:45. Second half, Tidus gives Balgerda and Doram black eyes before putting it past Raudy at 1:14, Jassu once again gets distracted by something shiny so that Abus scores at 2:14, Wakka prevents Datto passing to Tidus at 3:00, Wakka Venom Shot's past Raudy at 4:10, Graav tries to shoot past Botta and a surprisingly attentive Jassu at 4:40... only for the two of them to kill the shot dead. Jassu runs out the clock for a 3-2 win, and Bickson can go eat a dick. :)

The major problem I had with FFX-2 is that it is, in essence, an expansion pack, if not a mod.

The new areas and facial features are really impressive, but they also make the old, re-used assets stand out much more than they should. I know it's only about 2 years later, but when you've taken swimming enemies and retconned them as flying enemies (who use the energy of the pyreflies to fly, or some shit), you're just being lazy. That's the kind of BS you see in rom hacks.

This also applies to the re-used character models, especially Lulu (who must be wearing the world's tightest garter if her pregnant stomach isn't showing at all), and double especially that little girl (forgot her name) who gets swapped with a fully adult generic NPC model as a means of "appearing older". Where did she go, the cave of the Summons?

My wife pointed out Lulu's not looking like she was pregnant, still wearing her beltdress without any sort of baby bump when I think the game implies she's 6 months in. In fact my wife swore it looked like Lulu's breasts had shrunk compared to FFX's model.

What were these, anyways, and how were they supposed to work with the game?

They're just a dolled up controller. The hammers pop off to reveal the dpad and analog stick. Buttons below the trigger, and the triggers themselve are L1/R1, for no other purpose than when you use the Gunner's rapidfire ability, you can actually make like you're shooting yourself.

Other than that, it's just a controller. And for the most part, handles exactly how you can imagine it would. IE: not that great. I imported it, because it still looks pretty damn awesome. It just sits on a dresser rather than be used.

They're the only team that can consistently prevent me from winning at lower levels... and give me any challenge at higher ones. Luca Goers are number 2 at best, and usually end up battling with the Guado Glories and Ronso Fangs for 4th place at the higher levels. How the mighty fall... and how much more satisfying it is when they're a bunch of smug gits. :)

She gives birth near the end of the game, so she's supposed to be full-blown preggers.

Best thing was seeing the Guado Glories become almost completely Guado-less.

As for X-2, I enjoyed it. Wasn't the greatest game ever, but I had fun. I really should finish my current playthrough...

usually when people say they hate X-2 they usually have trouble coming up with a coherent reason beyond the story

which is totally justified, but also hints at how fun the game is

also its tone is nice and consistent, if completely asinine

Like all the other characters, Lulu had two models during cutscenes: a basic model that's used a majority of a time, and a more detailed, more expressive model for up-close shots requiring facial expressions.

The latter model featured more prominent endowments (you could even make out the blue vein), so since that model was never used in X-2, that's why there isn't as much emphasis on her bust.

    Playing dress-up?

You know. Switching your characters dress sphere. I swear, may as well have called it Barbie Fantasy X-2: For Chicks and Gays.

So you hate an on-the-fly Job System? by the way, nice gay stereotyping there, broski.

Hey, dude. Maybe when they man these games up a bit, me and my bros will enjoy playing them. I mean, dude...you play as chicks for the majority of the game, and they spend most of it doing Sailor Moon shit, the hell? So until then I'll just stick to kicking the asses of lames who like this stuff.

How dare you play as women who do women things and be feminine? "Manning" things up? Just how heteronormative of a world do you immerse yourself in? You're stuck in some weird gender binary quagmire.

Guess what, guys can be feminine and not be gay! Guys can play FFX-2 and be straight!

    SHOCK AND AWE.

    :^:

I don't get the people who claim this.

Wasn't FFX-2 basically copying DOA and focus on hot three-girl-fanservice action? The Le-Blanc massage, the skimpy dresspheres, the hot springs where Rikku is checking out Yuna's rack....I wouldn't exactly call it a game shunned by "straight" people.

Ironically, Sailor Moon in the US had a larger male fan-base than female. Food for thought.

You know...if they did the following things.

-Made the job system less tedious
-Did away with the perma-death system so NPCs could actually be important to plot upon party inclusion

I would have a much higher opinion of Tactics. It is still cool in my book, however.

It's just what happens. A show that pretty much re-created the magical girl genre, became the favorite of an entire generation of girls who have now reached adulthood, and spurred hundreds of imitators in books and on TV, comes to the United States and...is principally watched by young boys instead.

(Which is not to say there aren't lonely grown men in Japan who watched it either, duh, but there just isn't that gigantic army of female fans in the US to help offset that.)

Maybe America wasn't ready for the show? Maybe it was just broadcast in the wrong medium (Toonami)? Or maybe I'm overthinking it, given that I bought both FFX and FFX-2, and enjoy the later much more.

More relevantly, I really did appreciate the touch that Square-Enix added of giving each dress-sphere different dialogue with each character, even if you only heard it once or twice. Little details like that.

Well, retrieving Jenova's head was the ultimate goal of Kadaj and his brothers, and during the scene the music is playing, he IS carrying Jenova's head, so in a way Jenova is involved, albeit indirectly.
