    Lore question:
What relationship do the Darkspawn have to Demons? Because I'm still confused all to hell.

Most of the game's enemies and non-enemies are explained to be the manifestation of (usually) demons from the Fade possessing a person (or thing). But it is specifically told to you early on that the Darkspawn aren't like demons at all.

But they're led by an Archdemon. And at certain points you end up fighting demons with darkspawn (the shades later on).

Wait. So am I the only one who finished the game on lvl 23? Whoa. I even had like, 8 or so quests I never finished because I'm not searching the entire world for the missing love letter.

Never found the pantaloons tho :( that greatly saddens me.

    Pantaloons? What pantaloons?

They didn't include the pantaloons from BG did they? Please tell me no, otherwise I'll have to search this entire game.

I'm also sad that I only found 5 of the 6 Revenants :(

There was...talk...in the last thread. About pantaloons in DA. Where they are, what they do...who knows? But there was talk.

    About pantaloons. :...:

Edit: Your dog can dig stuff up? shit. Next you'll tell me those historical sites in the game had a quest attached to them. Psshhhaw.

And there are pantaloons if you get your Mabari to dig in a certain place. I'm not sure you can get them in the human Origin though.

Nope, I managed to find that one. I'm missing...#5 I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sequel was way in the future, since Blights only come up every couple of hundred years.

I would have thought they might well pick a different enemy. The Qunari are the obvious IMPENDING DUUUUM of the next few years.

I haven't beaten the game yet, and I'm not doing much to unlock influence with Sten. He's just told me that he thinks I'm shitty. Whatever Sten, I'm taking a shit in your tent tonight.

Sten is the standard Bioware Other Race party member who ends up as a walking dictionary for facts related to their race. Except this time the decided to make this dictionary bite you every time you try to open it.

Yeah, I hope the sequel actually has more likable party members next time around. The only people I found likable at all were Alistair and Wynne, and the male romance options came down to a manwhore who throws himself at you for no goddamn reason, a self-obsessed bitch with a goth fetish, and a religious nut who lost a few of her marbles in the footwear aisle.

To be honest sten can be really funny if you get him with the right party members. And if you use the right conversation options WIGGLE EYEBROWS

Alistair's massive childishness is what makes him so excellent.

Alistair likeable? I guess maybe on a first time through (I thought he was funny), but after a certain thing way late in the game I can't conceivably think of him any more as anything other than a massive child. Which kind of ruins him for me.

Combat Stealth allows you to chuck bombs without being seen. Muhahahahahaha.

This is the best way to fight.

I also think Sten is my favorite party member. It's like:

    "Howdy, Sten, how's it going?"
    "Meh."
"Any thoughts on that last quest?"
    "No."
"You've traveled a lot, any good stories?"
    "No."
"Ok then. Let's go get those darkspawn!"
    "Meh."

I think I found the pantaloons by asking the dog to look for stuff in the area where he first joins the group(unless you're a human noble), but I don't know whether they are random loot or not.

From what I've gathered, the blight seems to originate from the ruining of the golden city, so it has its origins in the Fade, but not the demons. The Archdemon is essentially a blighted Old God, and not a demon as such. This may be just my memory making shit up, but I think there was some point in the game where its commented on how the blight is alien to the demons.

Oh, and moving on... It's bothering the hell out of me that every character seems to have a base critical chance of 3% that I can find no justification for(even the throwaway tower guards from the beginning), except for the main character who has 0%. What gives? It hardly seems fair when all the other characters get potentially thrice as many criticals based on the percentage than my MC for no apparent reason. I haven't found any mention of this anywhere, so I'm starting to wonder if it's not a widespread issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sequel was way in the future, since Blights only come up every couple of hundred years.

Maybe I'm not remembering the codex entries properly, but that isn't exactly true.

It has been two hundred years since the last blight.
The first blight was four hundred years ago.

So that's three blights in two hundred years. Then one more two hundred years after that.

Yeah, when you're at Flemeth's hut, if you ask her and Alistair for opinions, he wants to go see Arl Eamon, and she's like, "Why don't we just go kill that dick Loghain?"

Sadly, you cannot. I tried but you can only get to the market, the pearl, and a few back alleys. I think that would have been an awesome way to start the quest.

I guess one of the faults of this game is that compared to the BG series, BG had far better party members.

Outside a very few exceptions I don't think there's a single BG party member I thought didn't have some well-developed contribution to the party in a meaningful way. There's a few good ones here in DA (Morrigan even if she is a bitch, Shale, Wynne) but some of them just fall flat.

Although, this game is missing Boo so I suppose it's already starting off kind of with a disadvantage.

I think Alistair is actually cool, we'd be homies IRL - and more complex than he appears to be if you don't mine his psyche.

Also, all of the characters interact great with the hound, when given the chance. It's funny to
save right before the prison break and have different characters accompany your dog to save you, I like Morrigan and the hound personally.

Guys, i've purposefully tried to avoid reading this thread as i've been hearing good things about Dragon Age.

My time on a spending freeze is coming to an end soon.

So, without spoiling things for me..

    * How open ended is Dragon Age? Is it in the same kind of vein of KOTOR/Mass Effect or is it in the same kind of open ended vein as Oblivion/Fallout 3?
    * Which version should I buy? ...

First of all, I'm buying a really nice LED LCD 40" tv soon that will have my PS3 and 360 hooked up to it. And I've got my pc which has a 22" widescreen monitor and 19" monitor hooked up to it.

How well does the game cope with a controller versus mouse and keyboard?

My personal preference is that for control schemes I vastly prefer the pc and for consoles I prefer the PS3 over the 360. (see my tough choice is go with console version connected up to a 40" tv or go with pc version but with a 22" monitor and ideal control scheme)

Awesome, time for my evil blood mage playthrough, I feel. That is a pretty awesome endgame. I've already done the heroic sacrifice thing, so the alternative should be fun.

Also, about romancing the moany goth, I heard that apparently its best to keep her approval under 90% or you'll blow it, since apparently she's 'afraid of being in love' or something. Any truth to that?

Yeah, Alistair is great. I like that you can play along with his nonsense, too, BioWare conversations are usually so straightforward.

So damn, having your player character be a Mage is way too powerful. I haven't even stepped foot out of Ostagar/The Kocari Wilds and I already have Cone of Cold, Stone Fist, Heal, and Flame Blast. I could probably have soloed most of these fights so far (on Nightmare).

So I finished my Female City Elf Rogue (Focus on Stealthiness and Backstabbery) and rolled right into a Human Noble Warrior.

My goal for this playthrough is to tinker with the Dwarven questline until I find a way to not kill the dwarf who runs the Karta. It seems like something that should be possible if I play the two candidates off one another properly.

Even if it's not possible, the fact that that isn't immediately apparent is a good thing in and of itself. God this game's awesome.

I had my main character and leliana kick off right at the end of phase two, but I was able to limp through phase 3 with morrigan and alistair by feeding it an endless string of dwarves.

Also, is there some trick to using the ballistas? Is it based on some skill? Most of them failed after two or three shots, but I had one that I fired about ten times before it gave out.

Also, I thought the whole morrigan having the godchild thing wasn't explored nearly well enough. You would think that they'd at least let you talk her into a proper villain's exposition about her motivation. I was even in love with her, and she still was all 'no you don't get to find out what I'm doing with it

Trap skill allows you to repair them.
