I doubt it, I found the end of the game got easier on hard. In my opinion, the hardest fight in the game as a party with one mage, not spec'd for healing, was the anvil of the void. If you did that without lowering to medium you can do the rest of it.

Can someone tell me the qualitative difference between shield wall and shield defense? I assume that shield wall is just better and alistair certainly is holding up better with it, but they seem to share a lot of bonuses.

also, do you think it's worth it for a rogue to use that sustain that removes chance to crit, and just avoid crit-related talents?

That rogue sustain is bad. It removes crits AND backstabs while the effect is minor at best. Later on you'll be wearing a lot of crit gear anyway.

yeah I have so far assumed it's terrible based on how huge it's damage increase would have to be to be comparative with backstabbing, and because of how much utility from other talents you lose out on. It just seems odd that they would include such a contrary ability.

I sort of want to try out a rogue build that pumps str/dex and uses that sustain with heavier armor and weapons. That archery talent that removes the heavy armor speed penalty doesn't apply to melee weapons, does it?

It's a damage increase if, for whatever reason, you can't get behind the target. In boss fights with adds, I usually have my rogue kill adds while my tank does his thing. They usually turn to face him, so it's easier to turn it on and let him roam wild while i micromanage the hell out of the tank and healer.

Anyone know who the dirty pantaloons is a good gift for? I'm too lazy to gift them, then reload.

There's a pair of dirty pantaloons? Really? But judging from Wynne and Alistairs conversation on his dirty socks I'd go for Alistair.

Strangely enough I haven't had a hard time with very many bosses. The only thing that's caused me to struggle recently (so, the last two treaties, which for me where the elves and dwarves) is groups that contain multiple casters who wind up hitting me with aoes before I get them under control. Probably because I've piled enough poultices up that I don't feel bad about burning through them on boss fights.

My mage has only the first tier direct heal, and I keep thinking that maybe I'll either take morrigan down the healing tree or just make her a spirit healer, but I haven't needed to so far.

Get the talent that lets you backstab anything that's paralysed, frozen, asleep, etc. Then positioning stops being an issue. Seriously, the best dps combo is a cunning-based dagger rogue and a crowd control specced mage. My Rogue pops momentum and then proceeds to run from frozen target to frozen target killing them in seconds. He backstabs for about 40 damage now, before adding in weapon buffs, runes, bleeding effects, extra talent damage, etc. The end result is hard to calculate because when he hits there's this .2 second flurry of numbers that explodes >.<

    dwarftown talk:
I had a harder time with the anvil fight from branka's side than I did from caradin's. When you fight branka it's just a fairly mundane bosslevel dwarf and several golems, but when you fight caradine it's those same golems and a huge turbogolem. He hits hard, too, especially when he's hitting a mage.

Speaking of that area, what did everyone think was so hard about the broodmother? I just stood my party more or less in the spot where you are when combat starts and plinked away at her, using my two melee duders to help handle adds whenever they showed up. I was never really in trouble.

Did anyone else find a barbarian helmet (gives +2 to attack and looks pretty good on Sten!) in the wilds? I found one on my previous character but I rerolled and can't seem to find it again. I found a similar looking one in a cache I didn't find before, but it's not the same and the completionist in me is driving me insane!

I have spent the last 10 hours (straight - with 2 minute bathroom breaks), upgrading all the textures larger than 22 kb in the textures.erf file (core directory). I only have 480 to go, and I am going to call it what it is - Quick and Dirty (QnD). This doubles all of the textures that were greater than 22 kb and less than 2.7 MB (since these were high enough for now).

    Wow, that's... dedication... I guess.

Seems like we'll be seeing the texture mod soon.

My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

So apparently my game was running sluggish because certain cards are having trouble with physx. I turned it off and suddenly Dragon Age is running how I feel like it should on my machine based on what it looks like.

So if you have an 800 series Nvidia card and it's running like shit, especially in Denerim then go into your control panel and switch off physx. It might help. I also had to restart before it would make a difference.

The combat clicked on the consoles and now I've having a ton of fun.

For the love of god but something about setting allies' tactics in order to attack your target in the OP.

Is there a tactic for postitioning behind a mob? It's pretty annoying to switch to my rogue to position him behind my target for every damn guy.

if there is, I haven't been able to figure out how to do it. Unless maybe the aggressive behavior does it by default or something, but the description doesn't mention that.

It isn't too tough to micromanage a rogue, though. I usually just have zevran attack the toughest enemy while mages clear out the whites.

Reposting this in case anybody has the steam pre-order version!
Any chance any of you could possibly dig up this info for me? It's the only thing standing between me and these dlc items

If any of you have the "wicked oath" pre-order ring, the memory band, and embri's many pockets, could you possibly post the item entries in the addins.xml file?

I'm having to install my dlc manually (quite literally, editing the xml files themselves), and although I have warden's keep and shale working, my friend didn't have memory band or wicked oath on his, so I don't have the appropriate item entries.

They are contained in <addinitem> tags in the addins.xml file, which is contained in my documents/bioware/settings

Crafted by the ancient dwarves as their first line of defense against the darkspawn, the dread sentinels known as golems dwindled in number after the art of their creation was lost. Shale, one of the few golems remaining, was found in the Deep Roads, reactivated and brought to the surface, and may prove to be the Grey Wardens' most effective weapon against the onslaught of the Blight. Includes: (1) Shale, a unique and powerful golem, as a recruitable party member who is fully integrated into the main Dragon Age: Origins campaign. (2) Brand new plots and adventure areas. (3) Fantastic new items.]]></pseudo>
<cs-cz><![CDATA[Obávaní hlídači zvaní golemové byli vyrobeni trpaslíky žijícími v dávných dobách a měli sloužit v první linii obrany proti zplozencům.

    * Najdi znepokojeného obchodníka s dohodou, která bude možná až příliš dobrá na to, aby to byla pravda.

    Obsahuje:
    * Shale, jedinečného a mocného golema, kterého je možné vzít jako člena výpravy a který je plně integrován do hlavního tažení hry Dragon Age: Prameny.
    * Úplně nové oblasti, v nichž se odehrává děj i dobrodružství.
    * Úžasné nové předměty.]]></cs-cz>

Palát, a fennmaradt gólemek egyikét a mélyutakon találták, s ott is aktiválták újra, mielőtt a felszínre hozták. Kiderülhet, hogy ő a szürke kamarások leghatékonyabb fegyvere a Veszedelem ellen.

A Dragon Age: Vérvonalak egyes példányai beváltható kódokat tartalmaznak ehhez a tartalomhoz. A megvásárlás előtt ellenőrizd a játék csomagolását!

    Tartalma:
    * Pala, az egyedi és nagyhatalmú gólem; felvehető csapattag, akit integráltunk a Dragon Age: Vérvonalak fő hadjáratába.

man im in the forest after the origin story and FUCK, some spellcaster dude just raped me all kinda of ways. Seriously he casts one giant fireball that pewpews my ass too hard D:.

This is why you put your tank in front away from the rest of the group. Send in Alistair first and let him take the fireball by himself.

Pulling properly is very important to control the tactical side of battles in DA.

You are a hero, thank you sir. Off to test it!

Interesting it put in - in front of all of the line breaks on yours- were you viewing it with notepad?
Wait, why are we posting information on how to bypass, you know, paying for your DLC?

Because it doesn't bypass paying it?

It's authorised by your account. I could post a screenshot of all this shit downloaded and install failed if you like.

Or pull with a fireball of your own!

So cone of cold does some nice damage once you get the right gear. I'm doing 90ish damage on each target in the cone without debuffing em.

So again, whats the respec potion mod people have been using that doesn't screw things up?

I think I've settled on a nightmare team, PC mage, Alistair, Wynne and Leliana. But I want to respec Leliana as assassin/duelist since I prefer her over Zevran.

Actually I might go rogue again and respec Morrigan into being useful.

Reason being that you kind of need to be a rogue to make use of the persuade skill, other classes don't get enough skill points, nor do I want to waste stats on cunning to enable them.

Sweet, it worked. Thanks Rami. Only bad thing is that the stupid memory band is blank and has no stats, but I can't be bothered troubleshooting for one mediocre ring. OFF TO EAT MANS

Warriors do good with intimidation options. You don't need to sink many points in cunning to get rank 3 or 4.

Actually the memory band is like that normally. You need to right click and view it to see its stats, +1% xp.

The problem with persuade is you want to take it early to make use of it. Which means spending a warriors first stat ups on cunning, not a good idea on nightmare. You also need the weapon skills asap. It just isn't a very good system, it only works for rogues.

I seemed to do fine with rank 2 persuasion and high STR for a while. I dunno, just my experience :)

EDIT: I do start with one each of those extra skill and attributes books.

Went back to my Sword and Board first character. Used the Respec Potions to optimize my stats.

I can now rape face with my tank character. I also re-spec'd Alistair to be a two-handed weapon god. He's using a big-ass two handed axe and is still wearing his default splintmail. In this configuration there is more than one time I have thought he kinda looks/acts like Basch.

I also optimized Morrigan to be a straight damage mage with nearly all the primal spells and 30+ in both Magic and Willpower (Level 7 characters).

The onlything I need to do now is make sure I keep Alistair reigned in so he does wade in to the middle of large enemy packs and get flanked to fuck and back. Once I unlock the two-handed sweep ability I think he'll be able to handle his own against massed enemies a little better.

My run has been a little odd. With some help from the awesome respec potion mod I redid my own, morrigans, alistairs and leliana's stats/skills/spells etc. So good. It's strange though cause my two-handed weapon using dwarf warrior of doom is wearing the massive blood dragon armor, though Alistair has had the best I've found otherwise, Templar Armor at the moment. I kind of use my Warrior/Berserker as a second tank really, being a dwarf he's rather durable against magic, and is tough as nails thanks to the armor. I can basically leave him handling a bunch of little guys, especially with 2-hand sweep, while alistair goes to smash a emmisary in the face or something.

Not really using Morrigan now though, switched her out for Wynne. Might use the respec to make her a healer/damage dealer next play through so I can keep her for the witty banter with Alistair.

Technically, since your editing everything, you can make other characters into mages as well. Or rogues. Turn allistar into a duelist and liliana into a mage as an example. I can't promise it wont look out of place or that it wont break the game, but from a technical standpoint just changing their class is easy.

I wish there was a tactic (maybe it comes later on?) for Rogues that says, Get BEHIND Allistair's target and attack.

I'm always repositioning that mexican elf. And he sucks at opening locks too, that's the only damn reason he's there and not my Dog! Grrrrrrrrrrrr. He just dinged for hte first time, so I added points into the lock picking and cunning, so hopefully he'll be more useful now.

I... uh, no? The mod only allows you to 'respec'. It lets you spend your stats, specializations, skill points and talent/spell points. It does not however let you choose an entirely different class.
