Welcome to Let's Play Dirge of Cerberus Final Fantasy VII!I. [Background]
Dirge of Cerberus is another entry into the Final Fantasy series following the story set by Final Fantasy VII specifically. It follows one of the optional characters Vincent Valentine, and his whole back story as well as giving the spotlight to some new characters, and old ones that did not receive that much attention. Unlike many Final Fantasy games this is not an RPG. This is a third person shooter. It is very action oriented, and has a good amount of challenge. The game has you leveling up, buying upgrades to your weapons, and accessories with gil, replaying levels to get the most out of it with more difficulties, and giving you the chance to do bonus missions and finding extra content through memory items hidden in the game you must shoot.
Dirge of Cerberus is not liked by many people in the Final Fantasy community. Since it is not an RPG, and has Cloud, and the gang in the game for only a collective maybe 10 minutes of cut scene. Seriously would you pick up a game that advertises itself as a Final Fantasy game, but a third person shooter? I was skeptical as well, and when I played it I was hooked immediately this is an awesome game with a good gripping story, and fairly high replay value.
II. [Story]
One year has passed since the events in Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children. Buried alive following the Meteor disaster, a mysterious group known as the Deep Ground Soldiers emerge and begin raiding the city of Midgar. The enigmatic Vincent Valentine is somehow connected to these attacks, and may be as well the only one who can save this shattered world. Other characters from Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children join Vincent on his journey to save the one mighty city of Midgar and as the story unfolds, you will bear witness to shocking trusts never revealed before in Final Fantasy VII...
III. [Characters] (I will add more characters, and or information as the game progresses)
Vincent Valentine
Vincent is a quiet guy. Formally a turk, and then a slave to Hojo in his experiments prior to FFVII. He has a dark past that is revealed as the game goes on through an assortment of flashbacks.
Vincent is a man physically in his late 20s, and stands roughly six feet tall. He has crimson eyes and long black hair that streams about a bit wildly at times. He wears a red band over his head with his bangs emerging over it. Vincent's most distinctive feature is his tattered red cape, held in place over his shoulders and lower face by several buckles. Underneath his cape, Vincent's attire is black with several straps and buckles. Vincent wears a holster for his gun against his right leg, and pointed metallic boots. He also wears a golden gauntlet on his left arm. His weapon of choice is the Cerberus, a three-barreled revolver. Vincent has kept this look in all his appearances, with subtle variations. His gauntlet was originally rumored to be a prosthetic claw, but newer artwork and information strongly indicates that it is simply metal armor covering a black leather glove.
Reeve Tuesti
Reeve Tuesti plays a major role in Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. He leads the World Regenesis Organization, or WRO, a service hoping to rebuild the Planet after the loss of Mako energy. It has its own army, which takes the place of Shinra's army in peace-keeping and order. Yuffie Kisaragi is a member, heading espionage and intelligence for the army. Most of the party members from Final Fantasy VII willingly help out Reeve and the WRO.
Reeve also has the ability "Inspire" which allows him to breathe life into inanimate objects. This allows him to bring life to his partner, a robotic cat named Cait Sith.
Azul - The Cerulean
Azul is the final recruit of the Tsviets. He is a 33-year old man (born in 1977) measuring a full 9' 5". His yellow eyes glow due to the mako in his system.
Prior to joining Deepground, Azul was a normal man who wanted to be a SOLDIER. His reputation for strength attracted the notice of Shinra, who sent the Turks to Costa Del Sol during Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII- to capture Azul and force him to join Deepground. Azul broke free of his captors, but upon learning of the reason for his capture returned to them and went to Midgar willingly to join Deepground. Azul was the first to be subjected to the Metamorphose experiment, assuming the form of the Behemoth-like Arch Azul and killing his fellow guinea pigs. The display of power earned Azul his moniker and the rank of Tsviet.
Azul seems to be in command when he is on the battlefield, though he shows great loyalty to Deepground's Leader, as does the rest of Deepground. He takes every challenge seriously, and hates to lose. He possesses a "final attack-revive" materia combination within his body which lets him heal from being fatally wounded. His weapon, a massive laser canon, is purposefully large and heavy enough that only Azul is strong enough to use it.
Shelke - The Transparent
Shelke was born in 1991, she is nineteen years old in Dirge of Cerberus, though she is permanently stuck in the body of a young girl. She fights with two electrically-charged sticks, linked together with a cord similar to nunchaku. She was abducted at age nine and taken to Deepground, where she was subjected to numerous experiments. The procedures left her stunted, permanently appearing as a young girl. She requires daily treatments of mako to sustain herself.
Her main skill within the Tsviets is retrieving information from the Worldwide Network by means of a Synaptic Net Dive or SND. However, her skills are not limited to computers. She carries a pair of electromagnetic sabers, which resemble orange lightsabers.
Rosso - The Crimson
Rosso is the third member of the Tsviets. Her weapon is a double-blade with a modded machine gun in the center. Kind of like a gunblade only cooler.
Rosso was born within Deepground in 1985, making her 25 in Dirge of Cerberus. She was the first of the Deepground experiments infused with cells from Genesis Rhapsodos, and the success of her birth prompted further research and experimentation on the Deepground troops. The rigorous training regiment of Deepground eventually shattered her psyche, and she was only satisfied when she had beaten her opponents bloody, hence her title "the Crimson".
IV. [LP Information]
*This will be a playthrough of the game on Normal mode. This will be my first completed file on it as well so I start my character and stats from scratch though I do replay some levels if I did not do them well enough to get a little more exp, and gil.
*The commentary will be Live instead of Post this time around, (If I have a guest sitting in with me it will be post by the way.) and of course I will not be talking during cut scenes cause I feel that you should enjoy the story without me stepping on it.
*Please note that I have never played Final Fantasy VII. I have seen Advent Children, and haven't played that much of Crisis Core. I have little knowledge when it comes to FFVII characters so please forgive me if I don't explain some characters well if at all.
*Yes, I am aware my game audio is only in one channel. I am very sorry, but I do not have the means to fix that at the moment. I hope you can understand.

The single channel game audio gets to me pretty quickly. Do you know why it happens?
Other than that, if people are interested in seeing this game, this seems like a pretty solid run from what I watched. Good luck with the rest of it!
On an unrelated note, you should shrink your signature. 500x80 is max for images.
Oh, You said you never played FFVII? Well then do I have the LP for you!
As far as the audio goes, well I can only record off of one channel due to me lacking the recording equipment (av splitters ect.) for it, and I am in the money lacking department so I am unable to fix it.
Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it!
I liked it for what it was. It wasn't a great action game by any means, but it was good enough to keep my interest going, and the story wasn't half bad. It resolved what I wanted to see resolved from FF7, mostly, and (serious endgame spoiler)
Also, OP lacks:
The other secret character from FF7, constant thorn in Vincent's side. Maybe kind of helpful I guess.
Basically, those who NERD RAGE on this game do so for two reasons: One is Genesis, and the other is FUCKING LUCRETIA.
The Tsviets are all punk ass bitches who think they can take on Jenova war vets and live. They are very, very wrong.
Even I don't care much for the Genesis reveal because it's just a ploy to make the VII universe continue on longer.
Thanks.
Shoot, I thought Shalua was Lucrecia from the promo images. That's a serious O_o
See, she's 19, with the body of a 10 year old.
Suffers from Nomura-can't-design-an-outfit-to-save-his-life syndrome.
Shelke is the loli-bait actually, Shalua is her older sister who has the ridiculous outfit.
e: Beaten to the punch. D'aw D=
Meh, I was too busy killing Deepground to care about their names.
For all that, I still had fun with the game though. Yuffie had great voicing acting in particular.
I love Hojo in this game, for nothing more than making Lucretia's life a living hell...and then laughing about it to her face.
Hojo's was good... right up until Fallout 3 came out. Now, because half of the Capital Wasteland has his voice, I can't stand it.
Also,
Being a Final Fantasy fan, I picked up Dirge of Cerberus the moment it came out, got as far as the end of level 3 and gave up. Not because of the story... it's mega-cheesy, but I likes me some cheese. The problem I had with it was that it was a console FPS.
Me + Console FPS = Frustration.
About the only two console FPS's I did manage to get through were Uncharted and inFamous and both of those took a lot of going on my part. I always wondered what happened in Dirge of Cerberus, so this will do nicely.
By the way, you say that you think Vincent sounds like Batman. Nuh-uh. He sounds like Wolverine. When I hear Steve Blum, I always think of Wolverine. God only knows how many times he's voiced him.
Anyway, enjoyed the first two sets, gonna catch up on the rest and then I'll look forward to the rest.
Well, her catchphrase is "I'm so sorry." The bitch deserves all the lynchings she gets.
Well okay, maybe it is.
E;
I don't know what DoC you played, but this is clearly a TPS game.
Well, she did consent to it.
Oh, wait, you said screwed OVER...
Well don't read the LP yet. Apparently I gotta fix a shitton of images again.
You're right of course. Dirge of Cerberus is a Third Person Shooter. But I've always considered it to be an FPS because the control system is exactly the same as an FPS. Left stick moves you, right stick moves the aiming reticule.
It's just my somewhat weird way of classifying things.
As satirical as my thread is, I try my best to sum up the story of FFVII, so I think you might benefit from it.
Read the first chapter earlier, with the bad images. Enjoyed it so far and will probably be marathon-ed this weekend. Nice job, funny stuff.
Also, I should have the rest of the new chapter up tomorrow!
Chapter 6: Deepground Strikes Back
#19 Into The Fray
#20 Azul - Second Coming
Damn. I certainly didn't realise it. Wonder why the OP hasn't been updated with these. Ah well, I'll chew through these over the course of the next week. Thanks for letting us know.
Good LP in any event, I've enjoyed it thus far; haven't been much of a Final Fantasy fan since the old school gamed (i.e. the mis-numbered ones), but I did play VII and it's kinda cool to see those old characters again.
