I, today, have come into posession of a black Zune.
I, now, have a question.
Does anyone else have a "problem" where when first installing a zune,
you come to a part where it is "Updating the 'firmware'" and at the bottom it says "Waiting for Zune to update" after it downloaded everything and... it never ever gets any further? Okay never ever is a big word. Lets say four hours then. Just sitting there... little zune says "Connected."
I've had the installer/setup thing freeze on me about six times. My computer has dual 3-point-whatever Ghz processors, and one and a half gig's of RAM. I dont think my computer being slow is the problem.
Tips on getting this thing to go very smoothly? Or is it revenege for the ipod software/itunes already on my comp? O.o
The zune website has a lot of this connectivity issues covered, just look for your symptoms and they should offer some peice of advice, if anything, you will have to try and reinstall the program, and then reboot and try again.

Mine was stuck on "Please connect to computer" for a while. Problem was fixed when I hooked it up to my brother's computer to let it go back to the main screen.

My coworker bought a Zune over the weekend, and had the same problem. He basically said he kept on canceling the update process, rebooting his computer and restarting the installation process. It took him six or seven tries, but he hasn't had a problem since. I believe that the Engadget dudes also experienced a similar problem(s): http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/13/installing-the-zune-sucked/. If it makes you feel any better, said coworker loves the thing and hasn't muttered a complaint since. From the knowledge base article, it seems like the update service has trouble connecting and just hangs. So, trying a bunch of times (in addition to the bunch of times you've already tried doing this) seems like an annoying yet necessary course of action.
Also, during my two week Zune-related ban, I came across this picture and hoped that another Zune thread would pop up again so that I could post it:
