Incredibly odd TV problem (sound)

Hey guys,

So I recently bought a new HD tv from Toshiba. It works like a dream, picture/audio quality is great, etc.

However there is one small problem.

On one specific channel, there is no audio. None. The picture is there, but zero sound.

I tried fucking around with the audio settings but to no avail.

That channel does have sound on other tv's in the house.

I am getting my tv stations via a cable.

Regrettably, the channel with no sound happens to be the one I watch the most (comedy).

I was wondering if anyone else has ever run into a similar problem and what they had to do to fix it? I am at work right now but when i get home one idea I had was to swap the cable I am using with one that is connected to a tv that gets sound on that station.

Any other ideas?

The box is borked. Call your provider for a replacement.

Now I lack an incredible amount of knowledge when it comes to cable and cable providers

The one "box" we have in the house is on a different tv, and that works fine - as such that tv gets a bazillion channels.

The cable I am talking about to the new tv is just a straight cable from the wall, giving me about 60 channels or some such.

Could it still be the box?

Are you changing channels on the TV or on the cable box?

    changing channels on the tv

the deal we have is one box to one tv

the rest of the rooms have standard cable

see my line of thinking is that if it IS the tv that's fucking up, it makes zero sense for it to only happen on one specific channel; something is amiss.

Plug the box directly into the new TV (we're troubleshooting).

I'm saying the TV is borked. Borked is such a good word. Did you buy the TV online or at a store?

If it turns out it is the tv I can just swap it for a new one

I know this is old, but I promised I would update once I pinned the actual issue down in case anybody else out there runs into this kind of a problem.

Long story short, the TV was fine

It was the signal going into the basement

Something is completely out of whack with it but it is an issue I have to call my cable company about to resolve
