The sad thing is, for an AR, that's a really great weapon...because yah, the AR itemization is fucking terrible. I wish GBX would look at it, but I doubt they will.
I was using a AR primarily until I came across a SMG that might as well just be called "The Burninator." It's got a high elemental chance, major fire damage, and "We Don't Need No Water..." which seems to mean that some of my rounds explode, causing near-by enemies to catch on fire as well. The thing is insane.

that's still burst-fire, though. my havocs have less damage (224), but the accuracy (88) and fire rate (13.5) are similar...and it's continuous. things begin to change when you can crit-juggle a crimson lance trooper at range

It does feel as if it's easier to find good SMG's than any other gun type in the game. Definitely over great AR's or Rocket Launchers, probably (?) over the other types as well.
I often end up having a hard time finding good revolvers, which is a bummer because a) they are cool, and b) they have the best running animation.

90 and 10.0 respectively, but I'm only level 34 or so, and the gun is level 28.

The likelihood is they are still trying to get it through Microsofts ridiculous patch QA. I guess they could have snuck it in to the DLC, but that might have pissed MS off.

Quick tip- Get the Braaaains quest early on if possible. We didnt get it till after we finished the main story and had to go back collecting them all (and there are alot to collect).

It's been "somewhat" patched on the PC.
Items can indeed have more than 5 lines of text, so there's STILL an issue about not seeing mods.
For example, i've been at a vendor where combustion hellfires are for sale.
When they have mods in addition to their standard text, it adds up fast towards the line count.
One hellfire had 2 mods on it, but was also scoped.
Since the "X.X weapon zoom" line would have been in slot 6 (or 7 or 8, who knows?), it was not displayed.

Its in Hallows End. Head to the southwest corner of the map and you'll run into an old friend with a quest.
Oh hey, that item has 5 lines of mods with room for at least 1more, perhaps 2. Did they fix the stat display on weapons?
He probably has the PC mod that fixes it setup.
He might have his font size modded down but it doesn't matter because the game won't display more than five lines of weapon effects, even if there's space in the display for them.
I'm thinking there's no treasure in the vault, never was. Just a story to bring treasure hunters to the planet en-masse. The guardian spirit then picks some every 200 years (probably more than one to maximise the odds of actually getting some to the showdown alive) to beat the beast back into the vault, which presumably opens itself every 200 years or gets itself opened every 200 years. Either way, asskicking needs to be done, the guardian spirit automates the process by recruiting the saps who come looking for treasure. The cycle has been going on for a while.
Sadly, this doesn't explain the aliens guarding the vault. It might explain the ninja claptrap (in that after you beat the beast the guardian doesn't want you spreading the tale. How exactly which corporations fit into this is unclear. Maybe they dug it out.
There's just so many problems with this ending, that I'm not sure we'll ever get a clear explanation. The guardian "spirit" is just some claptrap in space? Made by Hyperion? Which means that someone who built it already knows the true purpose or contents of the Vault. It doesn't make sense that a large corporation can't pull together a private army to take on a giant tentacled beast that can be taken down by a solo adventurer. Then again, it was Atlas who had the key this time. Dahl gives you the personal HUD device. There seems to be some potential for competition and intrigue for the Vault.
It looked like the Beast broke the "keyhole" when he emerged. Can it even be reopened? More importanly, who the fuck cares? No one lives to be 200+ which is convenient for the story's sake. The writers are basically giving the player the middle finger. I think that's the part that bothers me most. This isn't a case of "The princess is in another castle." It's more like "Bowser ate the princess and we just tricked you into killing Bowser for us. Here's some more random (shitty) guns. Now go do it again!"
I don't want to be bitter about this, it's just a video game. Venting helps.
My interpretation was that the Guardian Angel was an old Hyperion survey satellite that had gleaned enough information from the remains of Eridian civilization to figure out exactly what the Vault was (much like Tannis, but with a bit more processing power and time on "her" hands). Specifically, the Guardian Angel discovered that the Vault was not built to protect the contents from outsiders, but to protect the people on the outside from what was inside. This is why "she" appeared to the main characters and led them on the quest to try to collect they pieces of the key before somebody else could try to open it. Unfortunately, Steele surprised the Guardian Angel by using Tannis to get the key, which threw off the whole plan and led to the rush to the promontory to stop the Destroyer.
I might have an easier time accepting the ending because of my love to the Cthulhu mythos and the idea that there are some things puny humans can't fully comprehend.

This mod here has slightly better bonuses to regeneration and item find, but this one is waaaaay more expensive. Do I keep the expensive one in the hope that whatever modifier I can't see will help me in some unidentifiable way? Or do I keep the one that I know exactly what it does?
Gearbox needs to fix that problem. And also make it so my skills tab reflects what mods I'm carrying. Or somebody will probably throw a quick hack together.

No, it's deeper than that. PC gamers can set whatever font size they want. I set mine to 8-point and immediately noticed two issues. One, while 8-point font gives you lots of room for text it doesn't render well at the default range at which gun info boxes appear when looking at weapons in a chest or on the ground. And two, even with an 8-point font and lots of space in the box, the game client is hard-coded to only display five lines of text. I think the first issue is really what's stopping them from adding more than five lines. With six or seven lines displayed, the text is seriously difficult to read unless you're standing right on top of the gun. And this is on a PC, those boxes are probably already difficult to read on 360/PS3 when using an SDTV.

definitely going to skip the DLC seeing as how it doesn't add anything except new things to shoot at in a new location. I'm sure the location and enemies are cool, but it just feels like my friends and I have exhausted the content completely. we're all level 50, every character with the best DPS builds for each class and I dunno, I feel like if I'm gonna buy DLC I'd like there to be something new to get. My Hunter is ridiculously decked out as is the soldier we have going.
Why do you want shock, out of curiosity? Its the weakest of the elemental types since it doesn't really kill very well. There are only about three occasions where shock is useful, and all of them are when you're fighting Eridians.

How does shock work? Do the bullets just do extra damage when that damage would deplete a shield, or does it do extra damage against the enemy even after the shield is depleted (which is something I've heard occasionally).
It is extra damage against shields. Probably as much as x4 damage (that's just a guess based on play experience.). I play Mordecai and whenever I'm fighting Eridians I equip my shock artifact and send out Shock Wing. He can kill the basic fliers in one shot, and the middle strength ones he will leave completely shield depleted and easy to finish up with a few rounds from my AR.

I'd assumed that all the companies which left their gear on Pandora had all had a stake in the exploration of the new planet in the beginning, but Atlas had managed to muscle everybody else out, or else held on more tenaciously in the face of all the nasty stuff that was coming out of the woodwork when spring arrived.

One of the modding application creators needs to include the stat modifiers that the parts apply, within their application so that constant reference sheet checking isn't necessary. It would also be nice if there were some kind of part/attribute compatibility checking and final output calculation were done. As it is, creating or modifying weapons is hit or miss and the final result, if it works, is unknown until you check the weapon out in-game. It would be cool if the program figured out the stats and told me if the parts combo I selected won't work ahead of time.

Totally agree with this interpretation of the ending. Plus massive bonus points for the HPL reference! I found the ending to be decently satisfying.
If there's a problem with the ending, it's that the game design (accidentally I presume) leaves the player a few levels too high so the fight isn't nearly as intense as it would be otherwise. And if the last mission seems anticlimatic, it's because they wanted to stay true to the idea of an open world, so they can't just kick you to the main screen. Unusual for a shooter, but not for this shooter.

About the ending and the Guardian Angel:
I mostly agree with thepizzaelemental's take on the ending. What I found more interesting, and kind of endearing in a subtle way, is that when you find out the angel is a claptrap in space, it makes all the times she had heart warming things to say about claptraps make sense. It also made sense how she knew that the first claptrap was going 'help' you.
The ninja claptrap thing makes no sense to me though. Why would the guardian angel shoot a lighting bolt down and turn claptrap in to a ninja killer assassin thing? So she didn't have to rely on a human to close the vault in 200 years?

Shock does less damage after the shield is depleted. One of the reasons it's held to be the worst.

Shock does less damage after the shield is depleted. One of the reasons it's held to be the worst.
It's only like 10% less than normal I believe.
People don't hate shock because it does slightly less health damage, they hate it because there aren't enough enemies to necessitate the extra shield damage/lowered health damage.
Still better than explosive though. :P

I thought the Ninja Assassin Claptrap was just a kind of joke for people who actually sat through the credits. You never know though. Plausibility can eat shit and die.

I mostly agree with thepizzaelemental's take on the ending. What I found more interesting, and kind of endearing in a subtle way, is that when you find out the angel is a claptrap in space, it makes all the times she had heart warming things to say about claptraps make sense. It also made sense how she knew that the first claptrap was going 'help' you.
The ninja claptrap thing makes no sense to me though. Why would the guardian angel shoot a lighting bolt down and turn claptrap in to a ninja killer assassin thing? So she didn't have to rely on a human to close the vault in 200 years?
Shock does less damage after the shield is depleted. One of the reasons it's held to be the worst.
It's only like 10% less than normal I believe.
People don't hate shock because it does slightly less health damage, they hate it because there aren't enough enemies to necessitate the extra shield damage/lowered health damage.
Still better than explosive though. :P
