I'm starting to think that scooter is the most developed character story-wise in borderlands. Even more so than the 4 main protagonists, who we know all of jack and shit about other than a paragraph on the BL website.
We know about scooter's momma, and his friends, and we help him throughout the game!

Patricia Tannis and ECHO Recorder would like to have a word with you on that. :P

Tannis is ftw, I wanted a Dragon Age style romance option. Some of the ECHO recorders were awesome.

I was kind of disappointed that the 4 mains didn't have any story progression at all, though. I was especially interested in Roland's and Lilith's parts.
Alright, Borderlands is downloading as we speak (Curse you, 8 GB download! Go faster! FASTER!)
Are there are classes that are absolutely required for online co-op play/are barely seen? All four look delicious to the point where I can't decide which class to jump in to.
All four characters can solo the entire game through all playthroughs. It's more about getting decent gear than the class abilities, which augment your awesomeness, but can't replace having a good stock of 2 to 4 weapons in your hotbar. They play slightly differently based on their action skills and their trees, but you'll do well with any of them. This game doesn't have much of an "interweaved" co-op based on your class choice (although a Roland is always welcome due to his support abilities and team ammo regen class mods). It's more like the original Diablo, in that all classes are viable for solo and they all "stack" pretty well.

Agreed but I was interested in Mordecai's story.
It's like they purposely tease you with badassness and then never deliver:
"Mordecai came to Pandora in search of a man from his past named Yujinny. Upon learning that Yujinny has died, Mordecai sets off to learn how he died and what he was carrying."
Seriously what the fuck. It's like Gearbox didn't even try to implement any type of story.
They could've branched this one out into at least a few more quests, the potential for a kickass story here is immense.
So far the DLC is amazing, I love the mustache on Ned (NOT ZED).

Yes, the DLC is amazing. I just started it up, and so far I'm loving it. The entire intro sequence is top notch. And yes, Ned (NOT ZED) is great.
I wish all DLC had this quality level. Though, I get the sinking suspicion this might have been cut main game content that they decided to polish up and release as DLC, because it looks like it took longer than a month to make.
I just beat the main "story" a few minutes ago, and yeah it sucked.
I'm perfectly ok with there not being any treasure, and having the Vault actually be containing some horrible monster, but that whole sequence was 10 seconds long (including the boss fight). Now that's not really surprising, as others have pointed out that the website contains more plot than the game itself, but seriously. I walked up, cutscene of putting the key in, bam monster, bam dead. Done. The thing wasn't even a challenge. I really do get the impression that a lot of the story elements were cut to get the game out or something.
Though if we're going to be speculating on things, I did notice that the Guardian Angel satellite had the Vault logo surrounded by angel wings on it, which suggests that Hyperion has known about this for quite a while and set the whole thing up in order to guide people go kill the monster. It's also worth pointing out that it needed the key to open (it certainly didn't look like it would be doing anything on its own), so it seems like the whole deal with the Vault wasn't that it automatically opens every 200 years, but that it can be opened after 200 years. So my guess would be that the monster respawns every 200 years or so (hence the timer), and so someone needs to be prepared by then to open the Vault and kill it. And since it's a monster and not money, they need to spread rumors about the Vault being full of loot (if it even exists at all) in order to get people to bother. It helps that it's a couple centuries in between so that any stories about the truth could fade into just being crazy stories no one believes.
Of course, since there's hardly any story in the game, any plot speculations are pretty meaningless. I mean, how long has space travel been going on in the Borderlands universe? Have humans been on Pandora for more than 200 years? Who knows?

Still seems like a whack, "let's jip the players" type of ending.
They could've easily taken an extra week to write up some crazy ending, not that hard to do, hell even just having 1 crazy rare drop would be worth it.
The whole ending is just so anti-climatic it's kind of pathetic/sad that they would end the game that way.
They spent all this time working on it, why go half ass on the most important part?

You could have spoiled your comments too...
BTW, I have the weird "no textures on the walls/ground" bug on PC after the patch. It's pretty fucking awful. Any tips on how to fix it???
How would one go about getting an invite to the Wangs Without Border group? I just played my first online game, and it was going great...for about 2 minutes until two people joined with what I assume are the save-edit guns I've been hearing about and killed everything. It was...annoying. Would like to actually play/level up with some actual people.
Also, on a related note, is there any way to do a push-to-talk scheme?
Ug, just tried playing for the first time after the patch, and it totally fucked my shadows up. They appear as black bars and stretch out over the whole screen. The game is surprisingly ugly without shadows.
I remember someone had this problem when the game first came out. Fix plz?
Really, new guns is the last thing they needed to add.
I would like some actual new guns. The way I see it, the randomized parts combinations don't change the gameplay much. You pretty much use the guns the same way regardless of their special characteristics. So effectively there are just seven weapons, and I'm kinda getting bored with them. Eight if you count Eridian guns, but they suck.
I'd like to see flamethrowers/chemical throwers, real grenade launchers, and other stuff that you see in modern FPSs. Three similar automatic weapons, a revolver, a shotgun, a rifle and a launcher is kinda boring.

Some actual good Combat Rifle parts would be nice, too.
I mean, I've got a pretty good CR that I use regularly. But it still pales in comparison to SMGs or Revolvers.
The randomized parts combinations actually DO change the gameplay on each weapon (read the link in the OP). They influence damage, bullet velocity, recoil, reload speed, and a host of intangibles that you don't see on the weapon card. When it comes down to it, you use ALL firearms in the same way... you point, you pull the trigger, it dies eventually. By that standard, all of the weapons are boring. :-P
Also from the OP, for you graphical glitch folks on the PC (like myself):
Wait, I got the patch and now I have a bunch of stupid horizontal shadows running across the screen?
Change your resolution to something else (anything), and then when it asks you if you want to keep the new resolution, say "No!" Exclamation point optional. I'm not sure if it does this for everyone, but my machine freezes up for like 15 seconds when I first make the change and then when I tell it no. After that all is well.
Otherwise, you can just delete the .ini files in your My Documents/My Games/Borderlands directory (back them up first!) and have the game rebuild them.

They do change the parameters of the weapons, yes, but they don't significantly alter their method of use. You use the same tactics regardless of the parts configuration. A revolver is a revolver is a revolver. Some are better than others, but it's a real stretch to call them different guns because the functionality never changes significantly.
The fact that the repeater pistol, SMG and combat rifle all have the same tactical function makes the game feel like it has even less variety when it comes to weapons. You really have four types: automatic weapons, revolvers/sniper rifles (there is a big tactical overlap), shotguns and launchers. Halo has more variety than that. Why did they limit themselves to guns that have real world counterparts? This is supposed to be in the far future on another planet.
I like the game, and it's fun for a while, but considering the size of the game, the FPS mechanics seriously lack depth and the game as a whole needs way more variety. Most of the combat occurs in wide open areas with minimal amounts of cover, no leaning, relatively few enemy types and weapons. The game has an interesting visual style, but the environments are monotonous and mostly empty so it goes to waste. There just isn't enough stuff to see in the game world. I don't know how you guys are putting in 50+ hours playing this game. I still haven't quite finished my first playthrough but I'm already getting bored because I had effectively seen everything there was to see by about halfway through and the FPS mechanics aren't even as satisfying as those in Modern Warfare 2, which has plenty of problems of its own.
Believe me, FPS Diablo in a post-apocalyptic setting is something I'm very inclined to like and let a lot of things slide, but the game just lacks enough content and variety to keep things interesting for dozens of hours and the shallow FPS mechanics aren't particularly satisfying.
At the very least I'd want new weapons in the DLC, but the whole game is just kinda empty and monotonous. It needs more actual content, plain and simple.

Yeah, I tried both fixes. No luck.
EDIT: Disabling Catalyst AI fixed it. Stupid CatAI.
So I jumped on the Amazon deal and I'll be getting it after the weekend. I've been playing it on my little brother's computer to see if I liked it. Is there a way to transfer my character from his game to mine?

Seriously, who the hell looked at that and said HAY GRATE NO PROB THERE GUYZ OLOL
Game's been out for a little bit, and if you'd put any time to it whatsoever you'd probably beaten it 2-3 times over.
Shouldn't mess with DLC until you're done with the game in the first place.
It's intense.
TF2 is worlds better than Halo.
Or, even better, just don't put spoilers in the DLC. How about that?
Only dipshits pretend there's expiration dates for spoilers.
I'm just saying if you're going to criticize Halo, you probably shouldnt choose the feature that every other FPS also doesnt have save borderlands
Thanks for the tip.
