Just finished Dr. Ned last night, and while it got way too reminiscent of Left 4 Dead in the last couple of missions (thank goodness for the incendiary rocket launcher I had lying around!), as a whole it was a great add-on. So, what's the overall consensus for Mad Moxxi? While I like the idea of a bank to keep some of the more interesting weapons I come across without cluttering up my inventory, the knocks against the general length are making me think twice. Should I wait until it goes on sale?
On a related note, I voted Borderlands my number one game this year on the GOTY thread. Seriously, color me pleasantly surprised about this one; it wasn't even on my radar until I saw how much raving it was getting here, and everything about it just clicked with me. Gearbox deserves all the praise it's been getting for this.
Have you played any of the horde, survivor, firefight (or whatever ODST one is called), etc modes? Also, are you playing solo or do you play Co-op?
None of the kill the never-ending bad guy modes seem that entertaining in single player but I had a blast in Co-op.
Also I actually like the lack of drops. You don't really have time to run around and collect what might have been dropped and the loot at the end of each round feels like Moxxi opens a chest and drops the contents. She was nice enough to drop a Pestilent Defiler for me last night.
Also, Moxxi actually makes you think a little and use strategies.
Since it's just me and my brother playing on the same system right now (I don't have a Live account yet) I don't think I'll be able to get the maximum enjoyment out of the Horde-style stuff, which is fun, yes, but not with just two people. Maybe if it gets discounted sometime during the year I'll consider picking it up. Which brings me to the whole co-op discussion: Borderlands is the kind of game that simply plays better with more people. It's fun on your own, but with others watching your back, putting up walls of lead and supporting you with their skills it never seems to get old.
I have a question not answered in the OP: My friend and I are having massive lag issues playing over gamespy aided with Hamachi. Whoever is not host can sometimes be in for a very frustrating experience (though still great fun overall).
Problem is, we want to add more people to our group and if my friend's up speed (we don't know what it is, but it probably beats my 30 KB/s since his down speed is like 10x mine) can barely serve a good game for me... ONE WHOLE CLIENT, how can we play with more friends since there seem to be no dedicated servers? Does Hamachi introduce lag? Are the port forward instructions in the OP accurate? I keep reading how no one can get it to work (and we certainly couldn't without Hamachi).

after port forwarding, i was able to host with minimal problems. my biggest issue is not sitting in the wireless stream :P
by the way, though, if you're hosting the most important thing isn't download speed, but upload speed. most of the time DSL has pretty bad upload; fortunately i've got FiOS (and the router is better than the linksys i was using).

Yes I know, that's why I made that post. My friend usually hosts and he has .5 Mb/s up and the lag is still insane. I am desperate for a solution and wondering how we can possibly hope to add more players when there are no dedicated servers.
Also he forwarded those ports and I still could not join the game. (Of course I have no idea if he did it correctly or not, but no way am I going to host with .24 Mb/s up, though I assume it probably makes no difference with just the two of us.) The only thing that works for us is having hamachi up while one of us starts a public game (which actually works without port forwarding).
So I'm kind of in love with this game. I have never been so excited about shooting virtual monsters with virtual guns. Have a Soldier and a Siren 11 and 15.
I was able to host after I forwarded the posts listed in the OP. Killed some Skargs with Kris_xK. :^:
Some of this game is just done so perfectly, and then other things end up making me scratch my head...
I hate to say it, but the PC port strikes me as kind of lazy, there were quite a few Quality of Life kind of changes they certainly could have made for the PC crowd, and why they didn't is beyond me. For instance why you have to watch the entire intro video when you make a new character, or the fact the the videos that play while the game loads are unskippable. (Yes I know you can tweak these out by modding the ini files.) Or why for the love of god every console port to PC fucks with the mouse so bad.
I think my biggest complaint though is the respawns, that strikes me as really lazy game design, I shouldn't have to pick off trash mobs when trecking back through a zone I already cleared long ago. The worst are those 3 dudes that hop the fence and chase you down next to fyrestone. Even if you just drive by them, sure enough before you know it they're taking potshots at you while you're trying to sell some firearms in town.
I like the respawns. It's a way of gauging your power relative to where you used to be. It's not like they're any kind of threat.

I feel like I'm going crazy, but I'm in playthrough 2.5 and I think the level of a couple of my guns dropped. For instance I have two Volcano sniper rifles. I could swear they were both 48, but one is 37 now and it's stats are actually better than the 48. Have I lost my mind?
Back from my XBoxless holiday travels, I now need to decide if I want to go for the other four Moxxi achievements. Just getting the first one was okay fun, since I was playing w/ PAers. But good lord, how does one block out 3 separate 4+ hour gaming sessions w/ other people? 100 round tourneys just don't sound that appealing. 20 was plenty.

Someone over on the GB forums posted some good advice for soloing the longer tourneys...
Also, you have to be smart in playing the arena. Here are some tips.
-Bring a shield with health boost. This will help you out during the no shield rounds since you shield still works, you just don't get a shield bar.
-All you really need is a fire elemental SMG, a good sniper with good accuracy for shooting long distances and a up close SMG to smoke people as fast as possible if you are close to them.
-Bring med packs. Since you are playing solo you can use them easily and they help out during the no shield rounds or in general.
-Go farm New Haven. If you don't have decent stuff, just farm for 30 mins or so. You definetly do not need good gear for this. I used a ****** hellfire and an OK up close SMG and a mediocre sniper for it. Just search for "Farming New Haven" in youtube and you'll find a million videos on how to do it fast.
-For the horde wave you can get up onto boxes and higher elevation to make them a non threat or make them easier. Also, remember that the hoard has bad pathing. Making running up stairs then just jumping off work very well. They have a hard time getting to you.
-If you are having a hard time, take it slow and use cover. This isn't the normal game where you can just run around with guns blazing and kill everything in 1 second.
-If you have a class mod with SMG ammo regen, use it. Picking up those supply drops can be a bitch.
-Use "Controlled Downs" if you think you are going to die. Use this by weakening an enemy until it is close to dead, then kill it to get up.
-DON'T CHANGE GUNS WHEN THE GUN CHALLENGE DEBUFF COMES UP. I cannot stress this enough. Just keep using your usual gun. Trust me, it still works fine.
-Take frequent breaks. This one is important because you can get burnt out easily. Just pause the game and walk away. This is a LONG challenge. Set aside about 4 hours and take breaks at least every 30 mins or so.
I hope this helps. If you are having any specific problems, like with a debuff combination that is bad, post it and let me know.
I couldn't even get through a few rounds when I was cheating (bringing a level 50 into a level 20 game, one shotting everything in sight). I don't think I'll make it through the long ones.
Also, does lack of response to my question about Mad Moxxi, above, mean no one is really thinking about taking a swing at the 3x Big Tourney achievement?
So I'm about to own this game, and play it with my brothers. I want to play as Lilith. Is phasewalking sadly useless y/n?
In general, could someone hit me up with effective build advice for her? I want to be a phasewalking, stabbity stab type, but if the mechanics aren't there to support it I'm happy to go with a build that's actually effective.
I'm thinking something like this, but, having not played yet, I'm not sure.

I'm definitely going to try it. Just with kids, wife, and work getting 4 hours to play isn't easy. If anyone wants to add me, azchristopher on xbox, I'll jump into any attempts I see while online.

N, n, a thousand times n. Lilith's phasewalking is useful early and throughout the game.
In your build, I would take five points in Quicksilver over Spark (for just about any Lilith build), and my experiences with Radiance, which I thought would be super cool, were underwhelming. Also, Dramatic Entrance is probably one of the best reasons to go with a phasewalking emphasis in the first place, so I wouldn't pass that up.
It's not strictly phasewalking related, but Mind Games is one of the most powerful skills in the game. It would be a shame to go so far down the Controller tree and not grab at least a couple of points there (if not all 5).

Oh yeah, med packs. Forgot about those.
I only got to try Mad Moxxi out for about an hour and man that thing gets tough. Taking away accuracy from my Mordecai really screwed me. And Bloodwing didn't do shit to help me either. But all those solo points you make are really smart and necessary.

It really seems to me that the Underdome is meant to be played by a group of 4 where the host in underlevelled by about 10 from the rest of the party. It's easy at the outset, but ramps up nicely for everybody and avoids that "you're the only one not in the penalty box, oh fucksticks you died" brand of non-fun.

I actually like one point in Radiance.
It's doesn't do much damage, but it's good to "tag" an enemy with the DoT so that their shields won't regenerate.

4 people with each one using a team modifier would help alot as well. Even with 2 people when I had my hunter switch from a Ranger mod to a Survivor one we started doing better.
Did some pubbie co-op in Arid Hills, Sledge's Safehouse, and Lost Cave(rn?) this morning. Found my Soldier a nice scoped incendiary combat rifle. Settled on a build with 2 points in healing turret, 3 in +max hp, 5 in cauterize (healing bullets). Next I'm going down the Support tree, though I should pick up Grit (bullet damage reduction) at some point too.
What does the aiming assistance option actually do? Like, how does it assist your aiming?
Also -- Lilith tips? I had a build with Mind Games yesterday playing with Kris_xK, but apparently I'm terrible. It works on skargs, but enemies with guns usually have so many friends scattered around that getting close enough to tag one group with Daze ends in me getting plastered by their buddies.
On both characters I end up using the hell out of scoped weapons because I'm afraid to leave my cover.

Yeah - I was playing with a Hunter last night whose class mod effectively nullified the vampire rounds from Moxxi. And my ammo regen kept him shooting things in the head.

You mean Dramatic Entrance, right? Mind Games works when you shoot baddies (even safely from a distance), not your phaseblast.
Assuming that's the case, I would recommend switching your Dramatic Entrance points into Inner Glow. Lifegain when you phasewalk gives you a great 'out' when you are being overwhelmed. (Also switch from Striking to Diva if you haven't already).
Then pump five into either Dramatic Entrance or Hard to Get, and then max out Daze. Will look like this.
Then your high RoF weapons, like SMG's and Repeaters, are going almost always going to tack daze on which makes mobs a lot easier to manage. Phasewalk w/ healing (and maybe daze) gives you a great escape pod when you need it.
God damn those 20 rounds are brutal. We got really bad rule combos in Round 6 and 7 (no shields + vampire for a few waves) and we eventually went down to a Badass wave with Weapon Master and some other shitty rule. Moxxi was already handing them 10-20% buffs on health and shields at that point.
We're gonna need all four people to run these.
EDIT: Also, rocket launchers kick so much ass against Horde waves.

Yeah, good games on the weekend, we'll have to do it some more with hopefully more people. While cruising around yesterday I found a +Siren mod which seems to be decent (not that I'd really know) so next time we game remind me to give it you.
I'm too scared to play with pubbies so I've been playing solo. Anybody who just got this for steam if you want to noob it up with me just friend me in steam. (Steam ID is Kris_xK)

Oh yeah, med packs. Forgot about those.

My experience at a 24/7 7-11 disagrees!
I tried that, but now I'm not allowed to be in a 100 yard radius of a school.
Thanks Blank!
Say if I had a high proficiency I could equip a weapon that was higher level than I? Interesting.
Originally that was most likely the intent. However, they took it out so the effect doesn't happen until after you equip it.
Also, does lack of response to my question about Mad Moxxi, above, mean no one is really thinking about taking a swing at the 3x Big Tourney achievement?

I only got to try Mad Moxxi out for about an hour and man that thing gets tough. Taking away accuracy from my Mordecai really screwed me. And Bloodwing didn't do shit to help me either. But all those solo points you make are really smart and necessary.

We're gonna need all four people to run these.
EDIT: Also, rocket launchers kick so much ass against Horde waves.
Dear god it's like Diablo in FPS form. AKA: my fucking gaming wet dream.

Edit: Whoops, thank you Arikado. Fixed now.
