Just didn't think the first one did either very well. Who knows, maybe they made some small adjustments to the second one and it will click with me. Sadly the first one didn't.
One piece of advice for Uncharted: play it in hard or crushing. The game shines in those modes. I player the first in normal, thought it was average, good cutscenes. I actually traded my copy on Goozex. A while later I felt the urge to play it again, traded back for it, and player on hard. On easier modes, I'd just stay in cover, and pick off one guy, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next wave, etc. On hard modes, I'd be running around, shooting from the hip, scrambling for a grenade, diving around corners. Its a much more dynamic game on hard.
I loved the second one too, but never player it on normal or easy, don't know if that still holds.
Yes, I hated the bullet sponge enemies. And I hated how every damn fight had multiple waves. Then I would do a really boring climbing segment and then fight more guys.
I would try again on hard but I don't ever want to play it again.
Like I said, I'll try the demo for 2 to see if I also dislike that one.
I'd rather they just make a new Jak and Daxter.
Well UC2 has a rudimentary stealth mechanic. I hated how in UC1, enemies wouldn't spawn until you walked into a room, ruining any sort of planning you had. When you walked into a room, enemies would all know you were there and turn around and fire.
there are actually a few sections in drake's fortune you can trawl through without alerting the first handful of enemies, and there is a (much more limited) stealth mechanic

They're only bullet sponges if you suck and can't headshot.
They're also much less bullet-absorbent than the first one (well most of them). Plus in UC2 the bad guys are actually wearing body armor, rather than bullet-resistant t-shirts.
it's a fantasy adventure. really the fact that the pirates take more than one shot wearing a wifebeater and that the hero protagonist kills a lot of evil baddies is irrelevant - it's all in the spirit of the genre
I get into a lot of games, but Uncharted 2 is the first game I've played in a very long time where I actually found myself smiling involuntarily while playing, such are the feelings of joy it elicited in me.
However this is the internet, so to admit that I love something here is to have it crushed beneath someone's bootheel.
I really liked UC2, just felt the pacing of the campaign got a bit off near the end. The shooting sections ended up being way too long for how frequent they were. Could have shortened up a lot of the waves and I think it'd have been even more enjoyable.
Has anyone purchased Vandal Hearts yet? I'm still on the fence waiting for some reviews, consumer opinions. Though 15 bucks isn't a bad deal for a new TRPG especially one that's available on consoles! If it's even remotely playable I'll probably pick it up.

I'll ask here since we don't have a dedicate PS3 thread. 3 or 4 times since I bought it my PS3 has randomly decided that it doesn't want to output via HDMI anymore. Up until the most recent time all I had to do was turn it off, turn it back on, hold the power "button" down, and wait for the 3 beeps that signal and auto-detect of video and audio settings. The most recent time even that didn't work. I had to use a PS2 cable for a bit and then do the old trick and it worked.
Anybody know a more permanent fix for this issue? Is it possible that my HDMI cable is bad or something?
Yeah the beta is pal only I think, but I wouldn't get too excited, I'll be honest, I feel massively let down with it. It's all very well having snazzy character, car and track editors but when your game plays like a jerky, loose controlled clone of Mario Kart it doesn't count for anything.

Yeah, unfortunately that was pretty much my experience as well. I'd hoped they would have cleared up the camera and controls a little bit by now. But maybe by retail. If they want to actually sell the game, at least.
It's been out in the UK for a while, and it was the weekly 'thing that people bitched about in the store update comments' since then. I honestly don't see the draw for an online Pool game, but then again, I didn't think there'd be one for Pinball and enough of you guys dig ZEN Pinball so it's definitely worth a mention.
It's set to feature right off: XMB Music, Native 1080p, online and off-line MP, and a Viral Trophy, and it's been said that they "will" patch in Voice and Video chat "Soon" and there might be DLC. We'll see on that, though. They have quite a few play modes, too and it does look super-slick. The only problem is that some of them are complaining about "Premium Chalk" or something that was in the UK release. Anyone heard anything about that? Or, better, has anyone gotten it?
I pretty much like Zen Pinball because I can be terrible at it (just like I am with a regular Pinball machine) without having to feed quarters into it.

There could still be delays or some extra stuff though, so that list isn't written in stone.
But if it is, it looks like I'll be spending some money on Thexder Neo, AC2 DLC and Vagrant Story (which I've so far left until I put more money on my account).

The PS2/PSP stopgap game is actually pretty good though.
even the weak-as ak47 would take a dude down in three or four body shots as long as you didn't just hold down the trigger and hope for a lucky spray

I like how I would sometimes shoot guys in the head and they would hold their face like I shot them with a bb gun. Head shots didn't always work.
Overall the shooting just wasn't satisfying.
But there's no point in discussing it really.

Yes, more than once IIRC.
Yes. The end of Uncharted 2 does.
Except he never actually murders anyone, it's self defence.

Just found this review if anyone is interested, I usually stick to 1up and gamespot though so I'm not sure how much stock to put in the review: http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1841/Vandal-Hearts-Flames-of-Judgment/p1/
edit 2: It also looks like the 1up review is up! http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3177692&p=37&sec=REVIEWS
That made the hair on my neck stand on end.

It's definitely different than the old Vandal Hearts, that's for sure, and after a while, you can forgive the terrible art-style.
That said, I've not gotten too far into the story, but I do remember liking a lot of the story from the first one. So, I'm giving this one a chance.

Haven't made a track yet, but I put in a decent amount of effort into this Mod:
That's a damn fine Mod. Pretty much the only things I made when I was in was the Hulk, since it's really easy to do. The Beta is PAL only now, right?
Also, you've been added to the list, fmz.

It's not too bad, but it's not going to blow your mind either.
And really, it takes a special kind of talent to screw up a cart racer.
