Playstation Store - NA: Valkyria Chronicles 2, Castle Crash PAL: Alien Breed, FM3
EDIT: Nevermind, the answer was "yes." And thanks, Unco
I picked up Flower on sale, and it was definitely worth the $5.24. I probably would have felt the same way if I paid full price, but it's a crime to not buy this while it's on sale. I get the same emotional reaction to it as I do to, say, SotC or even Panzer Dragoon Orta. Something about a world that has moved on that just gets me.
Question, does anyone have any input on the Blood Omen: LoK release from last week? Is it worth getting at all? Have they fixed the god awful slowdown? I can't find answers to that question, just a lot of people asking.
When does the US store update typically? I always see new stuff on Friday mornings, but is it updated Thursday?
Typically thursday night I believe. The US Store is usually updated around mid-day Friday over here, while the PAL store is updated about 6-7 hours earlier. SCEA is way inconsistant with their updates though, they're late quite often.
Kainy: No, your friends trophy info isn't stored locally, it's stored on the SCE servers, which is why when you compare them, they sometimes take a while to show up.

So I have to ask; does anyone know why synching your Trophy information takes so horridly long?
It's been retarding up since MW2 was released. Sometimes it can take 10+ attempts before it syncs, which is a pain in the ass.
Mine was out of whack before that, but I think I know why.
I think it has something to do with the Rock Band Country Track Pack. I would get Trophies for it, and they'd be in my list, but the Trophies weren't counting towards my Trophy total and weren't showing up when I compared my list with friends.
Harmonix said they were "working on it" when asked through technical support, but I've since exported the songs and sold the disc, so unless there's some weird patch for it they released where I would need the disc to correct it, I might be stuck like this.
I'm sure this has been covered, but I'm just looking for some confirmation before I go downloading (Google had inconsistent results): Can I, using a PAL console, use a USA PSN account to download & play PSN games? Just want to make sure that they're not region locked.
I've heard that I can get around this using http://www.entropay.com/ to create a virtual credit card. Never done it before, but I'll see how it goes when I get home from work and let you guys know. I wanna get in on some cheap Flower!
So if someone from Europe has their PSP or PS3 activated on a PSN account that was created in the United States, then they'll be able to purchase and download games from the US PSN instead of the PAL PSN, is this correct?
Understanding of course that they will have to buy points either using a US PSN card or a credit card from the US (or a "virtual credit card")?
Because if so, it seems to me like the best option for people in Europe would be to get hooked up with someone with a PSN account in the States. The guy in the States would get access to any games the guy from Europe bought, and the guy from EUrope would get access to any games the guy from the US bought, and would also have a much better selection of games to buy himself.
Also,
Looks like someone over at Wikipedia is suffering from some wishful thinking.

Or just trying to start a rumour. The bit about coming to PSP is particularly humorous.

You can create a US account from anywhere in the world; just pick a fake address in the US (for example SONY headquarters in NY: 550 Madison Ave Fl 6, New York, NY 10022).
I use Entropay for throwing money at them, but do not use a fake address to sign up there. As long as the credit card company is based in the US, it will work; there's just some laws that you cannot have a fake address in their records or something.
It's kind of a bother that you have to first put money in your Entropay account, then transfer it to your PSN account before you can buy anything, but it works. Also, you only have to pay and start the download from your US account; you can install, play and everything on the account you already have.
Alright. I went ahead and made up a list of the games I'm going to try to fit into the OP (going to try to do them up nice with descriptions and info and such, we'll see how it works out and if they'll fit with the updates still in, too.) Gonna do some of the big names (MvC2, PixelJunk games, etc.) along with some of the lesser talked about ones (Gunstar Heroes, Crash Commando, Critter Crunch). Just yell at me if I forgot something or don't need to include something.
Name / Proposed Genre:
Braid / Puzzle
Crash Commando / Action
Critter Crunch / Puzzle
Fat Princess / Action
flOw / Other
Flower / Other
Gunstar Heroes / Action(?)
Linger in Shadows / Other
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 / Fighting
Mega Man 9 / Action
Noby Noby Boy / Other
Peggle / Puzzle
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness / RPG
PixelJunk Eden / Other
PixelJunk Monsters / Tower Defense
PixelJunk Racers / Racing
Savage Moon (?) / Tower Defense
Shatter / Puzzle (?)
Super Stardust HD / Shooter
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix / Fighting
Topatoi / Puzzle
Trash Panic / Puzzle
Trine / Adventure
Wolfenstein 3D / FPS
Zen Pinball / Other (?)
I can throw Zuma and Bejeweled 2 up there as well if you guys would like. Any corrections or clarifications on the Question Marked ones would be appreciated. And if I missed anything stand-out (which it feels like I did), go ahead and let me know that, too.
Ape Quest
Beats
Crystal Defenders
echochrome (at least in North America)
Everyday Shooter
flOw
Go! Puzzle
Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman
No Gravity
Numblast
Super Stardust Portable
Syphon Filter: Combat Ops
Unbound Saga
Pinball Heroes
All I know:
- I guess Ape Quest is a collection of minigames in four parts. The first part is free, the other three cost cash money.
- Syphon Filter: Combat Ops is pretty much just the multiplayer portion of Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow with more options and levels and a small price tag.
- Beats is a music game that lets you use your own music, but the story I hear is that it's awesome for the first ten minutes, but has very little replay value (remember AudioSurf?).
- Crystal Defenders is Final Fantasy themed tower defense (you get warriors and black mages, etc, and you fight monsters from Final Fantasy games). It's an iPhone port.
- Unbound Saga is pretty fun, but pretty generic. It tries really hard to be Comix Zone in a few areas, which is either good or bad depending on how you felt about Comix Zone.
- I can personally vouch for echochrome being the coolest shit since sliced bread. If you like it, there is an expansion pack with more levels also.
Change Genre:
Braid's - Platformer/Puzzle
Mega Man 9 - Action/Platformer
PixelJunk Eden - Platformer
Shatter - Arcade (or just Other)
Take out:
Linger in Shadows (It's a neat concept for the price but it's a slightly interactive video, not a game)
PixelJunk Racer (It's pretty mediocre)
Wolfenstein 3D (This is just me but it's 17 years old and I really don't think it's aged well)
There's also Tekken 5: DR, Puzzle Quest and PoP Classic but I'm not sure if enough people care about them to include them.
SmokeStacks: Crystal Defenders is on both systems and I still wouldn't include it. PixelJunk Monsters is on both too and is worlds better (and the PS3 also has Comet Crash and Savage Moon).
What is that game? I've seen it mentioned several times now. Amusing distraction like Critter Crunch?
It's a tower defense game, different in that you control a little guy who walks around and builds the towers, and it can be played coop. A lot of people highly regard it among tower defense games, if that's your kind of thing.
I just spent yesterday plaing Pixeljunk Eden and Comet Crash. God those games are fun, especially Comet Crash.
I'm angry with Pixeljunk Eden right now because the 4th garden's 4th and 5th spectra are fucking pains in the ass. Getting 100% of the seeds in that garden will suck, too.

ftfy. Since there's a demo, there really is no excuse not to give it a try.
So I made good on the Amazon $20 PSN offer, purchasing God of War Collection and getting the code today. I used up $10 on Flower and The Last Guy, as today's the last day they'll both be sold on that price. I'm debating what to spend the remaining $10 on.
I have most of the major titles already, so I was kind of pondering between Savage Moon, Critter Crunch, or Namco Museum Essentials.
Or should I maybe hold out for something later down the road?
I'd say get Critter Crunch or wait for PixelJunk Shooter.
I haven't played Critter Crunch but it's gotten a -lot- of praise in the last thread. Pretty much the only reason I haven't picked it up is because I don't generally fare well with the kind of game it looks like.
I just really, really wish you could effortlessly transfer a PSN game between your PS3 and PSP.
Why the fuck do I have to buy the same game TWICE?
Because it's not the same game. The games are written differently for PS3 and PSP, since they are different hardware. They've put the effort in to make the game twice, they want the money from the game twice if you want it on both platforms. Also, usually, they are different. Super Stardust Portable has a zoomed in POV and new control features to make up for the lack of a second analog stick. Pixeljunk Monsters has a whole new island.

If Critter Crunch supports custom soundtracks, I'll buy it right away. Game like that would be perfect for chill music and podcasts.
For the same reason you don't get Dragon Age on the XBox360 free if you buy it on the computer. Different hardware, different controls, different setup.
Back to the original question, does Critter Crunch support custom soundtracks?
I'm also wondering which games feature youtube uploading support. Burn Zombie Burn features it, and I'm also wondering what the consensus is on that game.
Also, apparently there's a workaround to watching Youtube on your PS3.
Last time I tried Youtube on the system, the streaming was incredibly shoddy, so I'm curious how it works. If it doesn't allow HD support, then forget it.

PAL update is live. I don't think there's an actual new game for the PS3 side of it, but there's a handful of PSP things. Plenty of Add-ons and a few deals, though, didn't see anything spectacular. But there's a Bayonetta demo up as well if you didn't get it when it hit the JPN store. It might be in the NA update as well though.
Will update the OP tonight with both store updates, and the game list will be up (barring problems with fitting it in) tomorrow or the day after.
I hadn't been paying attention to PixelJunk Shooter because I figured it was another twin stick, and Super Stardust HD is all I will need for years in that category. Then I saw a video and realized it was part physics puzzler. Huh.
