Playstation Store - NA: Valkyria Chronicles 2, Castle Crash PAL: Alien Breed, FM3
This is the 4th week in a row that we haven't seen a single new UMD legacy title on the PSN. Although I imagine a lot of publishers figure now's not a good time to rerelease old games due to the holiday rush and all that, it still worries and disappoints me.
But hey! For $24 and 1.5-2GBs, you can have a veritable cornucopia of classic survival horror games with RE2,RE3, Dino Crisis, and Silent Hill. Not bad.
Choppy and slow loading sounds like people running it off the DVD drive to me, as I know the 360 version is perfectly smooth installed but I had some issues while running it off a DVD. The levels in the PS3 demo didn't run that badly to me, the level that was problematic isn't even in the PS3 demo so it is hard to make comparisons or say for certain.
Well it wasn't in the demo for a reason, so we'll see.
Also, I saw a stream of the game and it is slow as fuck. Load screen to enter the pause menu. Load screen to skip a cut scene. Load menu to pick up an item or open a treasure chest. The player was not skipping the same cutscenes over and over (cause he kept dying) because it'd take less time to watch the cutscene than try to skip it.
Im wanting a RTS to download and tide me over, but I cant decide on a PSOne Classic for Command & Conquer, or the 'Commander's Challenge' for PS3. DECIIIISSSSIIIOONNSSSS!
Regarding the PS1 classics, and buying them for PSP, how is the absence of the L2 and R2 buttons handled?
The analog nub, actually. It's mentioned in the guides, I believe (at least it was for Suikoden), but moving it Left = L2, Right = R2, Up = L2+R2.
I haven't played a PS1 game on the PSP for a long time but I vaguely remember there being 4 options. The one Mogs gave, combining a button (mute?) + L/R and then the reverse of both (mapping L2/R2 directly to L/R and then the alternates for L1/R1). Pressing the Home button while playing the game should bring up all the options.
Kami: If it helps affect your decision, you should know that the PS1 version of C&C (and Red Alert) didn't use memory cards. Instead you have to write down a shitty little password whenever you want to save your progress... I believe they'd discovered Memory Cards by the time Red Alert Retaliation came out but I'm not sure it's even available on the PSN yet.

Retaliation is on the EU PSN at least. It's damn difficult though, being composed of Red Alert's expansions' missions.

This in one option. You can completely customize your controls for PS1 Classics, you could have L2 be Square and R2 be Select of Triangle be Up or whathaveyou if you were so compelled.
Usually it seems to work best with the analog nub, though. Although most games released either don't really require you to use both sets of triggers, or don't require you to use them often. The only game I have where it's a pain in the ass is Rally Cross, where one triggerset rocks the car back and forth to roll yourself over if you flip, and the other switches gears.
anyone tried COD classic yet? have they updated it with regen health and dedicated grenade button or is it a straight port :?:
Straight port with trophies added (not a shortened amount like most PSN games too, it has a platinum). It's probably going to be NZ$30 where it comes out here, which is a little bit too expensive for my liking.
So I just got a PS3 and was wondering. If I already bought something (RE2) off of the PSN on PSP, can I download it again on the PS3 without paying?
Yip. Go into your Download List and download it. When it's finished and installed, you can also press triangle and select Copy to transfer it over to an attached PSP.
Oh and you can swap your saves between each system.

its tied to your PSN-account you can download it as many times you want on your machine, and one time on five other machines. yay for game sharing with buddies :winky:

Ok, this is how it works dudes:
You can download a game purchased from the Playstation store as many times as you want, on any machine (PS3 or PSP) that is registered to your PSN account.
You can have up to five machines registered to your PSN account.
You register a system by downloading a small file to said system, and you unregister a system by downloading another small file to the system.
It is impossible to register or unregister a system without being connected to the internet.
You can share games with friends by giving them your account information, having them log on, and then registering their system. Once they do that, there is absolutely no way to unregister that system unless they log on again, and unregister it themselves.
If you have a PSP or PS3 activated on your account, and you sell it without unactivating it, you are hosed, and that activation slot (out of five) is lost to you forever.
Right now, the internet is rife with kids who are freaking out because they have gone through multiple systems (trading in/selling/or giving away) but did not unregister each one, so now they are locked out of their own PSN accounts because they don't have any slots (out of the original five) left, so take that into account when you are registering multiple systems.
You can have up to five machines registered to your PSN account.
Actually, you can have your PSN account on as many machines (PSP's and PS3's) as you want, it's the games that are restricted to 5 machines. I'm pretty sure it'll stop you from downloading the game to another system unless you deactivate one of them (which deactivates all the games from that account on the system).
You register a system by downloading a small file to said system, and you unregister a system by downloading another small file to the system.
I'm not sure what you're talking about here. You activate/deactivate a system by logging in, going into Account Management and activating/deactivating your system. Though the PSP will automatically deactivate previous accounts if you activate a different one, since they only have one active account at a time (whereas the PS3 can have as many accounts active as you want).
Also, you should be able to call Sony and get them to deactivate all the systems attached to your account if it's stolen/sold/broken.

Huh? A system has to be physically present to be activated or deactivated. Also, you can't deactivate a system on your account by calling Sony, even if it's lost or stolen.
If you could just activate and deactivate systems that way it would be too easy to activate my system on your account, download your games, and then you call Sony and tell them to deactivate. I would still be able to play any of the games I downloaded, and you would get your activation back.
When you activate that system in account management, an activation file is downloaded to said system. When you deactivate a system, an inactivation file is downloaded to it, which clears the data from the activation file and frees up one of the spots on your accounts. When you activate a PSP, the activation file overwrites whatever account was previously activated, and then lets the PSN server know.
Your account can only be active on five systems at any given time. A PS3 can have more than one account activated on it at any given time (for example, multiple family members using the same system).
So the Final Fantasy Tactics on the store is just a straight port of the PS1 version, right? Is there any way to get the PSP remake on the PS3? I've never played the game, and I'd prefer to play the better version if I could.

Uh huh, why don't you tell that to the 6 systems that've been activated with my account?
There's a reason why the PS3 says something along the lines of "Activating download..." when you start downloading a game and it's not because it sounds cool.
As far as Sony deactivating accounts, I was sort of wrong but still right. You can only get Sony to deactivate your system if it breaks (aka, yellow light of death). There are quite a few reports of it online if you want to go check.
elliotw2: Yeah, I really don't think it's even close to being debatable. FFT's original translation makes FFVII's look like a masterpiece...
Bummer. It was the better translation that had me interested in the game in the first place. Is it still worth picking up?

When I'm playing Flower on my PS3 Slim, after I choose the flower and it goes through the unskippable scene of the dreary city, it stutters. It'll pan for 2 seconds then pause for 2 seconds, then pan, then pause, until it gets through the scene. If it was skippable I wouldn't care, but it's not...
Anyone else have this issue? Does it have something to do with my network connectivity? I have awful speeds on the PSN (which is a whole other issue unto itself since nothing else in my house is slow) and most games have awful boot up times when I'm connected to the network.

It's still a good version of the game, just be prepared for slowdown when you use spells and abilities. If you don't have FFT on the PSX already, go for it, it's probably cheaper than the PSX version anyway

This might be another case of 'If you haven't already, disable media servers in the network settings', especially when you say this happens when you are connected to the PSN. Try that.

I'll find out for myself in a matter of minutes.

Really? Um... wow. that's not good.
From what I saw in Giant Bomb's quick look, it's a straight port with Ye Olde Health Packs.
