A paid subscription service that gets you early access to certain demos/DLC, free Quore, and some other stuff.
It'll be the same price as Live Gold, only all of the currently free PSN stuff will remain free.
I recently canceled Xbox Live Gold and I don't see myself reinstating it any time soon, if ever.
I don't think PlayStation Plus is in my future either.
(Granted, I canceled Xbox Live Gold because my fourth or fifth Xbox 360 broke and I haven't been arsed to have it repaired or replaced but when I finally do - I'll probably get the new "slim" model eventually - I doubt I'll reinstate XBL Gold.)
I don't think what they're offering now is necessarily worth the money, but I'm pretty sure Sony will be adding to the service much in the say way as XBL Gold has been added to. Then it's just a case of figuring out if 'X+Y' is worth $50 or Euros or whatever to you.
So, anyone going to pay for Playstation Plus? I don't think it offers enough especially as the "free" games expire when your subscription does.
So you never rent movies or games?
As soon as the idea of a premium PSN was suggested, I thought the idea of having an online rental service was a great idea, especially compared to some of the alternatives. While I do buy quite a few games, there are others I'd rather just play for a week and then put to the side. And it'd be really handy for PSP Go owners.
Whether I'll actually subscribe is another thing though. It'll depend on what games are being offered and how much money I've got. I'd probably just go for the 3 month subscription though.

All five of them.
Unless Sony hunkers down and makes sure every ounce of the extra content is 100% pure awesome, this is going to be a tough sell.
unless they strip a ton of shit out thats free right now and make it pay only i dont think anyones going to go for this thing. hopefully they wont do that, because free online has always been a huge selling point for me.

I pay £15 a month for a games/film rental service. There I can choose what gets delivered to me, with PS+ I can't. The negatives just outweigh the positives for me with this system especially as they will be offering games like Wipepout HD which I already have.

I think it's more likely they'll be adding new stuff to this Plus thing rather than taking established stuff away.

I might get into Playstation Plus. I dunno, I'm not angry over it or anything and I don't see a reason to be. But this is Sony and the internet, I guess, so that's just how that goes. I just hope it doesn't create a ton of extra work for me to do.
Some of the PS+ features that were asked about in the survey that happened like 6 months ago actually sounded pretty neat, such as cloud-based saves, so you don't have to tote your save from place to place (as I do, since I have a lot of friends with PS3s) cross-game voice chat would be nice, even if it's kind of irking to pay for, and having it automatically extend your console's warranty would be neat. Really it depends on what features they put in.
I should resist because I literally have the PSX game sitting right next to my PS3.... But digital downloads are so good.
I have the PSX game right next to my PS3, too, but I can't play that on my PSP... Or at least I can't without hacking it and stuff. And my discs have some scratches in them (apparently) that kind of muck up the cinematics and stuff on the last disc. Learned that when my friend played it about a year ago.
i would be pretty pissed if they put in cross game chat and made it pay only. ditto for netflix without a disc. and members only in game content can fuck right off.
the rest of that stuff is whatever, as far as im concerned.
So dumb question, but the Tales of Monkey Island bundle should have trophies right? I'm probably gonna buy it anyways in a day or two, but google is failing to show me what the achievements are for the game (if they exist).

That's it. They're adding cross game voice chat and a few other features to the premium PSN. Free PSN will stay as it is, the premium PSN gets a few more features.
so heres the bit from sony's press conference about playstation plus. none of that sounds like anything i want to pay for personally. everyone is saying that cross game voice chat is also for playstation plus users only, but the guy in the video doesnt say anything about that so... is there some other source for that?

I'd believe it now. Not the first bad move made by Sony, though they've been getting better. Cross game chat does seem like a good feature to sweeten people on the idea of paying for PSN.
i just think that if that was a selling point they would have mentioned it as such in the press conference when they were listing all the selling points of PSN+, is all. it wouldnt surprise me much if it ended up being true, but believing internet rumors is not what im into i dunno.

hey darth_mogs you should put the doujin shmups in the thread title. this is important stuff.
Done!
Edit: Also from what I can tell from a quick scanning of google stuff is that Catan doesn't have Local Multi. But grain of salt as it was a real quick scan.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Ugh, really? An unlock all pack?
I hate lazy players (who would rather spend money for instant gratification than play the game the way it was meant to be played and unlock things through skill and perseverance).

As for the demos thing, doesn't Live already make silver subscribers wait for them as well?
I think it would be better to wait and see what exactly that $50 a year buys before we pass judgement.
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.

Here's a link to the kotaku story talking about this survey and here's the image that shows potential price points and features.

This is where I first saw it being said that it will be for PSN Premium.
But I'm a sucker for bullet hell games, so I still want it.

Well those screenshots certainly look evocative.
Good question. The only reason I would pick it up is to play it with my girlfriend. Anyone know?

1) gundeadligne is fun as hell. also very hard.
2) pac-man championship edition DX is coming to psn. YES!
Will definitely double dip on this one. Xbox is in bedroom and is less convenient to play.
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
