I've only played AvP2, but the Marine campaign was easily my favorite, followed by the alien one. Didn't really care for the Predator campaign.

Can't wait to play AvP3, it looks amazing. It'll probably spur me to upgrade my graphics card since it looks like that'll be the start of the wave of dx11 games.

I think everyone agrees that the marine campaigns are the best, so god damn terrifying though.

The best game related injury to date is when a friend of mine got jumped by an alien in the first level of AvP. He screeched and threw himself backwards, flipping the chair over and hit his head hard on the floor. Good times. :)

Not to plug my own AvP LP, if you're interested in the AvP campaign as a marine I've played through it (there's a slight debate whether it would be better if I didn't talk or did commentary post-play instead of during play). It was on Director's Cut, so it doesn't get to be quite so atmospheric (or easy) - the pacing would've probably been better on Realistic.

One of the bonus videos features an instance of that "pants-crappingly scary" feel some people are mentioning (I generally don't swear if that is any indication of my surprise):

Out of interest did anyone else have the issue in AVP2 multiplayer when if as the alien a player became a queen your character model became this floating grey orb sometimes?

I just remember it being odd and also funny as hell, you had to look really hard to spot it and by the time you did *nom* *nom* *nom*

That's only true for WA or material refused classification due to illegal content, other states it's simply illegal to sell or publicly exhibit.

Knew something was up with that trailer rating this morning; Sega just let us know that Aliens vs Predator, a violent game which had previously been refused classification in Australia, has had that ruling overturned.

Sega Australia's general manager, Darren Macbeth, tells Kotaku "It is with great pleasure that we announce the success of our appeal. We are particularly proud that the game will be released in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed whatsoever. This is a big win for Australian gamers. We applaud the Classification Review Board on making a decision that clearly considers the context of the game, and is in line with the modern expectations of reasonable Australians".

The ruling means the game will now be classified MA15+, meaning only those aged 15 years over can purchase the game. It also means no cuts or edits will need to be made to the title in order for it be sold, which is lucky, since developers Rebellion had sworn that's something they weren't going to do.

Huh. I'm really curious now what the heck was said to make them change their minds (the classification board) and also what exactly is in this game.

Rebellion stuck to their guns (I really hope they didn't change the game), Sega backed them on it and just asked for a new review (I hope they didn't change the game either with strategic edits), and the board changed their minds?

I'd really like to be given a hint as to the reasoning behind this. Also...I can imagine that Australian attroney general guy is about to blow a gasket. Someone get some popcorn, this should be amusing.

What happened was, iirc, that the ratings board went "No.", to which Sega replied with a burn that I felt all the way in America, and apparently quietly appealed the decision at the same time where the board caved. I wager it probably had more to do with being publicly mocked than anything else.

It's good to hear that the Austrailians are getting the new AvP game after all. Given what I've read in the past regarding the Austrailian rating board and the antics of the idiot Atkinson, I really didn't expect them to budge on the issue.
