E-Book Readers -- Recommenations?

The Kindle International (Kindle 2) finally became available in Canada last week. I've been thinking of getting an e-book reader for Christmas but I'm not sure which one to get.
Some points to note --- The Canadian version of the Kindle can't use the web browser. I think we are limtied to wikipedia and wirless downloads of books from the US store.
I've noticed that the Kindle has a proprietry format as well in terms of the file types it can read. I was looking at a couple Sony e-book readers and they seem pretty decent with less restrictions on what files you can get on it.
Any of you guys have recommendations?
