iPod nano video battery life

My girlfriend got me one of the new iPod nano's as a gift so I could use it while working out/commuting. This is probably a question specifically for the same version, which is the new "video camera" mode. (Why the hell I need a video camera on my nano, I have no idea.)

I've twice now charged the darned thing overnight, then taken it in my pocket to listen to while on the train (about an hour's worth of use throughout the day). I'll hold the play button down to turn it off when done, and lock it off using the hold switch. I'll then leave it on the counter for a couple days, pick it up about a week later and find the battery completely drained, to the point where it won't even turn on. Is this normal? Do I unwittingly have something turned on that's draining battery life? Do I have a bad battery?

What is this I don't even.

I picked up one of those right when they came out a month or two ago. First thing, you don't have to worry about holding down play to turn it off, it'll put itself to sleep within a few minutes. Just make sure you've got the lock thing on, you don't have any music playing, and you've exited the radio application if you use that.

I use mine pretty regularly, so I've only gone about two or three days between uses, but I've never noticed a considerable chunk of battery life depleted between uses. That's some odd situation you've got there.

Most folks will tell you modern batteries don't need conditioning, but I do it mainly out of habit but also knowing that it can't really hurt. I always drain new devices to dead once or twice before normal use. How far gone did you let the battery get the first few times you used it?

Lastly, mine can run for a pretty good while without recharging. How much battery life are you getting out of it in a single charge if you don't neglect it for considerable spans of time? I've never measured, but I'd wager I can get a good 15 hours out of it when listening to podcasts, easy.

I've never listened to it for more than an hour or two at a time. I'll try to use it excessively tomorrow to see what I can do with it. I did drain it completely first use, though.
