Now, I ain't no fancy city slicker, but I believe we need this here thread, it is a thread that needs no sub-title and indeed, no fancy Oh Pee. If you don't know about the Legend, why are you talking about it on the internet?

HOWEVER, WATCH THIS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH9yOh9dsy8
Spirit Tracks is the latest in the series, and if you are like me, you will want to buy it! The game is set to be grimdark, as Zelda dies in the first hour! But thats not a spoiler, for you see, she fights along side Link as a spirit, and has the power to possess Phantom Guards! 'Mazing.

Also: eldery concept art for your visual pleasure~
http://uk.gamespot.com/users/nicktarist/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25681457

TOPICS, GOD!
I just thought I'd throw these out there:

1. Why do people hate Tingle? In Majora's Mask he was considered a prancing fool and a failure by his father, by contrast, in Wind Waker he is a cunning conman and extremely rich. Do we prefer him as a fuck up?

2. Can we all agree that Nintendo just reuse designs and there is no connections between the games? Or are the Twili really the decendants of Gerudo and rogue Sheikah?

2 and a bit. Is Zant the rare hundred years born male Gerudo and thats why he thought he'd become king?

3. Bombs.

4. Is The Happy Mask Salesman good or evil or even something quite Lovecraftian?

5. Is Dampe the secret lord of Hyrule?

Oh hey, this seems like the place for this. Aonuma's been doing a bit of talking lately.

    http://www.revogamers.net/noticias-4403-%27El-remake-de-Ocarina-of-Time-est%C3%A1-en-cada-nuevo-Zelda%27.html (SPANISH)
The Difference between the two platforms (Wii and DS) is big. The experience with Spirit Tracks, trying to enhance an already 'near-perfect control,' is what pushed us on learning how to rack our brains. With Wii it is the same, we want to make the most of its controls. We want the player to control the game in the best possible way. On Wii, the camera is more realistic. Graphics are more realistic, too, and controls have to be, therefore, much more realistic.

    ...

There were a lot of things we couldn't do [with Ocarina of Time] due to technical limitations. But I think we've been solving those issues with every Zelda since then. With each entry, I've tried to add things I couldn't do before. Actually, it's like I've been remaking it during these years. So if you ask me if there's going to be a Zelda remake... I thought I was making it all this time! So it maybe I haven't done well enough, I haven't been up to the expected level.

    ...

It's complicated. Past things belong to our memories, and they grow bigger in there. If you play Ocarina of Time nowadays, you notice that it's not that good. Sometimes it doesn't move as fast as it should, graphics aren't as beautiful as they should be; there are some confusing parts... Any present Zelda is technically superior. Everything goes faster, more fluid... but to best Ocarina of Time, a great change –comparable to what happened back then- must be introduced. And that'll be rather complicated.

    http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=13313
When asked how different the new Zelda title will be when it arrives on Wii next year, Aonuma replied: "It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise."

"So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."

Aonuma also confirmed that alongside full MotionPlus support, we'll be able to see more of what his team have been working on at next year's E3. "I hope that we can show you something at the E3 show next year and it is something we are hopeful will be surprising," he added.

The full, in-depth interview with Eiji Aonuma will be published in Official Nintendo Magazine issue 51, out December 18th. Issue 50, which contains the world's first Zelda: Spirit Tracks review, an exclusive Shigeru Miyamoto interview and much more, goes on sale from Friday 20th November.

    http://wii.ign.com/articles/104/1047583p1.html
Confirming 1:1 swordplay, Aonuma said, "We're taking advantage of MotionPlus. It's become very natural – the movement of your arms is precisely reflected in the gameplay. Thanks to the technological advancements, we hope the gameplay can be more accessible to people."

"We're making efforts regarding the total flow of the Zelda game," said Aonuma, "So far, the basic flow of the Zelda games is you're exploring a field, you go to a dungeon, you conquer it and return to the field. We're looking at altering that traditional flow. That's all I can share, and I can't say more until E3 next year."

Guess we'll see how far they get with refreshing the series.

I'm really psyched for Spirit Tracks. The music alone is a massive improvement on Phantom Hourglass (which I loved anyway). Here's the latest trailer which I assume you've all watched:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkRaufnWGg4

From what I understand there's a lot more sidequests this time, which is good. Phantom Hourglass and Twilight Princess was somewhat lacking in that department.

The battle mode in Spirit Tracks looks great too. Similar to the multiplayer in four swords adventures (which EVERYONE has to play through at least once with at least one friend, it's a lot better then you might expect), but with phantoms added in:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dHTQ13k3E4

I'd love to see steam powered machinery carry over to wii zelda. It's fun to see Hyrule actually advancing their technology, especially given that the games thus far cover thousands of years.

I'm a Zelda timeline nerd, and could easy doom this thread to infinite despair by going there, so I won't, except to say that the games are definitely connected in story in some ways. If you think that all the Links and Zeldas are the same two people and that the games have no story connection whatsoever, then you haven't played Wind Waker and Twilight Princess and should go play them now. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess make the connections very obvious. I don't understand why people flip their shit when someone points out that there is some semblance of chronology in the Zelda games. No one said they were are immediate sequels to each other (they definitely aren't), but they also aren't random. Give Nintendo some credit.

Also Majora's Mask still has some of the best video game characters to date, with at least two geniunely heart-wrenching moments.

I'm surprised more games haven't copied the concepts from MM. The repeating schedules of all the characters made them more believable, and it was much easier to become emotionally invested in them. It just gives them more life, I guess.

Spirit Tracks is Touch Only, with some microphone use (one item requires holding L or R, then blowing into the mic). The only change is that to roll you double tap rather than drawing a small circle on the screen, which definitely seem simpler.

I liked the PH controls though, so I'm fine with how ST is going to be.

Aonuma says there'll be surprises at E3 2010, so I think the best we can hope for before then is a small trailer, much like we got with Twilight Princess.

I really should replay Majora's Mask again. Only finished it once  and that was this year too  but I loved it! It's probably the best game I've ever played, but I should play it again to be sure.

Also, I love Tingle! He's different, and funny in a what the fuck kinda way. Also, that speedrun of Majora's Mask is fantastic.

I liked Phantom Hourglass but it kind of felt half-baked to me. What I'm hoping for is that Spirit Tracks takes the things that worked for it's predecessor and improves and builds on them and gives us a much more satisfying adventure.

The only only only timeline fooferaw I will bring up is my belief that the Twili were the ones who created Majora's Mask. Midna's crown and all that. So the renegades were sent to one dimension, and the mask to another, to keep them safely apart.

I think the whole mythos stuff should be limited to tiny nods, hints and details, and not arc too long over the series. I liked the beautiful window panes in WW showing the OoT sages - more of that, less "forces of DÄRKNESS vs. generic LIGHT". The narrative and the nerdage should be plentiful, but optional and clever rather than grand and inflated. I would also like Link to express himself more and react to his surroundings. No cutscenes, just nice little details that let us get to know him. This whole "Link is the player" idea doesn't work. I want the guy to have some depth, some feelings etc.

Man, Ihadn't heard about the new Wii Zelda, but I sure hopeit is a rehaul of the mechanics of the game. More open world exploration, implement map drawing, use items that are helpful but not neccesary to explore areas, use of items that have less specific applications, make more obvious the villains impact (return to a town to see it destroyed, he rearanges the land scape at times, etc...), reinforce the feeling of adventure (going on perilous journey's, not knowing what's ahead, limited shops, danger awaits!)

I feel I must make a confession, I haven't enjoyed a single 3D zelda game. I've played them all, some more than others, and not once have I found myself having fun playing them. To me, Legend of Zelda games are the peak of top down 2D gaming, but are only average at best 3D games.

That said, I need to get my hands on a copy of Spirit Tracks

Only people who are insecure about their inner Tingle can hate him.

This new Wii game better be fucking awesome, because Twilight Princess really turned me off. It wasn't a bad game, it just made the formula feel too stale. Also, make side-quest and exploration rewards that aren't rupees, especially if there's nothing in your game worth buying and when your game is easy enough that there's no need for the rupee-burning armour.
