So a reversal shoryuken on wakeup would be a shoryuken at the first possible frame when recovering. Reversal means it's done at the first possible frame, wakeup specifies when getting up, as opposed to a reversal on block.
Or if someone is talking about a character's "wakeup game" they're talking about all the shit they can to do someone when the other player is recovering from a knockdown, or their defense when recovering. They should specify :P
oh cool, yeah when i am knocked down with blanka and the dudes are jumping on me or something, i just do electricity, usually works. Then get near them and do the quick dash on them so i can grab them from behind and lawls
And no worries, it was impressive that you were getting it at all. I couldn't get any links or wakeup's goin.
Late, but does bison have any good wakeup options?
Also, you should really just block high whenever I jump in the air when you're knocked down. :P
EX Psycho Crusher to get the hell outta dodge, EX scissors timed well, EX stomp, sometimes a tele, oh also Ultra on a jumper.
Heh, yeah I tried that a few times, I forget how it worked out, but I ended adamantly demanding that I get a reversal of some kind to work...no matter what! But that never panned out, haha.
Isn't reversal teleport a safe escape pretty much all of the time, or are there situations where you teleport out and right into whatever counterattack they had planned?
Am I the only crazy fuck dedicated to using a pad?
Dedicated might be too strong of a word, but I don't see myself ever upgrading to a stick. I'm not great at SFIV or fighters in general, but execution isn't my problem. It's strategy and reaction time.
I play these games like a damn AI. Go in with a gameplan and execute that plan, no matter what the opponent does. Takes me forever to learn how to read other players!
I do make mistakes on execution. Like I can't drum out EX legs consisently but with practice I am sure I could do it. I just see sticks as some sort of weird mythological deus ex machine to problems in the game so I kind of have a weird feeling towards them.
Depends I guess. Though I really can't see how people execute the more advanced stuff for 2D fighters on pads.. 3D fighters on the other hand works pretty well on pads.
The execution barrier isn't between d-pad/stick, imo. Given a good d-pad (which are admittedly rare these days) and some practice, there aren't really any motion commands I can't do just as good on a pad as I can on a stick.
It's the buttons that are the difference maker for advanced techniques. You can't piano key on a pad unless you have 6 face buttons, and while it's possible to do it in that case it feels so damn awkward that I'd never bother. I do have a friend who plays like this on occasion, though.

For example, fuck ex shun to ultra on pad.
EX Shun into Ultra on a pad really isn't that difficult. FDACing anything into Ultra, now that sucks.
just beat my brother, my brother that has beaten me in every fighting game ever all my life.
feels good man. I really want to get one of those joysticks yall use, its annoying trying to do those charging attacks since sometimes when i press left or right the ps controller takes it as a diagonal
I've been thinking about the question I asked earlier about the learning curve of Street Fighter IV. Now, for someone who's never played a fighting game seriously, it is somewhat daunting. But to work out if it's for me, I ask one more question.
What's a good fighting game to introduce myself to the genre? Surely there must be at least a handful that a complete novice could play to get their feet wet and start appreciating the genre more.
So, given I've only got a PC, Street Fighter 4 is a good place to start? Fingers crossed for the Steam Christmas sale then.
I guess the final question is what's the best way to control Street Fighter 4? Keyboard is probably out, but is a gamepad severely worse than an arcade stick?

Actually, keyboard's not out. A proper fightstick is the established leader, but keyboard isn't bad, and personally I'd say it's better than using a D-pad. Or at least better than the one on the 360 gamepad anyway.
All the inputs are digital inputs at the end of the day. The game doesn't judge degrees of movement, which is why using a keyboard can actually be viable. I find it complicated to pull off 360 degree moves like Zangief's stuff, but the rest usually comes out exactly how I want it.
Ugh, Championship mode is so slow moving. I just made it into G3-A. I won like... 7 in a row? And I still need like another 900 points until G2-E.
I think I fought this same guy like five times. He kept trying to counter pick my Gief, but he just ended up getting beat all the same.
Was he using Gen to counter pick? Man, Ima hop onto some championship right now, had to wake up early to drive someone anyway. Might as well street fight myself back into a sleep in.

No, it was Blanka and Bison. Thankfully, I've fought a lot of good Bison's, so that wasn't hard. His Blanka was annoying, since he's hard to punish. I just waited around and kept empty jumping into SPD or bait a lightning and SPD him. He didn't learn well.
if you are looking for a introductory game for fighting genre, i highly recommend smash bros brawl/melee. They are in essence simple games in the sense that theres only 3 buttons to concern yourself with, but the game involves a fuckload of timing thinking strategizing and experience. Man, that game is like you are a normal sayian, then you discover a new trick and you become power level 1 2 3 or whatever.
anyways that was a bit off topic, so... what are the general scissor paper rock rules in ssf4?
does gief counter blanka? i know sagat>all though...

Haha, cheeky move that... empty jumping into SPD.
Oh and playing smash bros as an introduction to Street Fighter doesn't sound like a great idea to me. While people have told me smash bros has some kind of strategy, its just not in the same class of fighting game. Street Fighter 4 is ALOT deeper than people would think, but is fun from the get go. It's as complicated or as simple as you want it to be. Once you get the technique nailed down, then the game really starts.

SSBB and SF are completely different beasts. I play both a lot, but they require different mindsets and ability.
Though they both need quick reflexes, the options that both games for defensive maneuvers are too different. It'd be easier to just pick up SFIV than try to translate from one to the other.
So I figure I need to play some Player Matches with good people over and over again to get rid of bad habits and get my game back to where I can win a damn championship mode.
Please add GFWL account Kyrkur to your friends list and make me play you.
Boxer and now looking for that second character so prolly a really bad Chun or akuma

I just watched some super smash bros brawl "tournaments" or whatever and pardon my french but that shit looks gay. I mean, I know its fun and all to melee and brawl with your buddies, but competitively... please. Sorry if this offends anyone. Street Fighter Rules!
Gonna be on, on and off today if someone wants to scrap with Gen.

Not to be an asshole here, but could we leave any and all conversations about Smash Bros. out of this thread. Don't get me wrong, I love the Smash series, but that game causes pages and pages of unwanted back and forth bitching from fighting gamers. Thanks!

Looks as though the final roster is done and balancing is being finalized. Interesting note is that Seth Killian says we will know the final roster before Christmas. w00t!

Not to poo poo on Dover's post or anything, but I wouldn't suggest Brawl simply because you can't play 'competitively' against the computer (in any fighting game) and I'm unsure how easy it would be to learn shit from the Wii's archaic online system.
Whatever game you decide to play, you need access to competition to actually practice against. The computer is an incredibly poor substitute and can lead to many bad habits. My vote would be SF4 if you've only got the PC. GGPO supported games is another option I guess, but I don't know anything about it to really say how good an environment it is to learn in
wow i didnt realize there was such a thing as fiting gaemz fanbois.
Oi, fuck, fuck fuck fuck this game hard in the fucking face fuck it. I know that you can overcome a hadoken spammer and all that shit, but its still bullshit, it takes a lot more skill to get over a hadoken spam than to actually make the spam. Just had a five loss streak to some fucking akuma and ryu, so i decide to try that shit out, lets spam the crap out of that hadoken with ryu.
I win, SO easily compared to whe i fight with blanka, i think its bullshit
I'm streaming tournaments today and tomorrow. Today will be a day of my dry commentary + some Chris Hu and maybe Rico Suave mixed in. Tomorrow will be IFC Yipes and co.
Players that will be around today are players like Damdai, KDZ, Rico Suave, Rahsaan, Andre, Chris Hu, and maybe others. Once I'm live, I'll send you guys a link.

Cool. I prefer dry commentary to the over-the-top Morton's Salty McScoops guy. I'd imagine I'm in the minority in this line of thinking, but sometimes it just drones on and on. He's definitely funny and entertaining when taken in small bursts.
Like Stig said, when does it start?

King of fighters is also good, but the jumping and rolling system might take a little getting used too. Faster too.
Blazblue is also not hard at all to get into. Seriously. Not as hard as guilty gear anyway.
You could try mortal kombat if you don't mind stabbing yourself everytime you play.
For 3D fighters i recommend tekken 6.
