I think Gief vrs Sagat is probably the most lop sided of all sf4 matches.
Yeah, either Gief vs Sagat or Gief vs Abel.
Gief vs Abel is the worst IMO. At least once Gief gets in on Sagat he can do some damage.. Abel gets dominated at every range of the gief matchup. it should be 8-2 in my opinion
So while I'm waiting on my first fight stick to be shipped from across the country to me, I thought I'd ask whether anyone had any general tips or videos for a complete beginner to sticks (for reference, I'm getting the TE stick). For example, I stumbled across this, which I found to be interesting (although kinda long):
That's always felt silly to me. Doesn't like a single headbutt stun Seth? And like a SPD is a 1/4 of his health. Granted, getting in is tough, you really only need to do it once or twice. Compared to Sagat who has just as strong a keep-out game with fireballs/st.rh... but MORE health and way better damage.
Seth has more tools to keep out Gief as well as hit him while he is using lariat. I watched a couple of matches on one of the battlefield arcadia streams and became convinced to why it is so skewed.

I'd advise against gate specific tricks especially in this game which has fucked up easy inputs for a lot of items to deal with lag. Learn it the proper way and be done with it.
Gate be damned. Going from a pad to stick, and both stick and new buttons play in here, is going to be a pain in the fucking ass. Learning game specific tricks is only shooting yourself in the foot.
wow i didnt realize there was such a thing as fiting gaemz fanbois.
Oi, fuck, fuck fuck fuck this game hard in the fucking face fuck it. I know that you can overcome a hadoken spammer and all that shit, but its still bullshit, it takes a lot more skill to get over a hadoken spam than to actually make the spam. Just had a five loss streak to some fucking akuma and ryu, so i decide to try that shit out, lets spam the crap out of that hadoken with ryu.
I win, SO easily compared to whe i fight with blanka, i think its bullshit
Edit- i apologize for my undue rage.
If you tried hadouken spamming with anyone half competent, they would just jump over each one of them and punish.
You were using Blanka against a fireball spammer and lost?
No offense, but I think you were doing it wrong.
`yeah bruski, im fairly crap at this game too, so im trying to learn as much as possible. Whats a good wake up move for blanka?

GGs Edward.
I need to watch some cammy vs chun videos. I have no clue on how to approach her
I believe it's your air priority.
Good games though. The one time we were disconnected they ordered a movie downstairs. I guess something that went through the cable signal killed the game.

damn cant get that upwards ball going when im knocked down, thats the special where you charge downards then up and foot button right?
Which one do you want? The one that goes straight into the air or the one that goes into the air and lands on the opponent? Trick is to keep your charge while you're character is on the ground and the instant your wake up frame begins press up and your kick.
Good games Silvraj! I see your Balrog has been levelling up.
I especially enjoyed the part where I managed to EX shoryuken you three times in a row on wakeup. Unfortunately, my meaty Ultra didn't quite work out...
Hmm was playing on and off today and I think I've hit a wall with Gen. I've got his defensive and counter strategies down but my offense is lacking. I guess I just need to practice his combos like a million times until theyr at like 90%. I read somewhere on SRK that some people use the random block function in training mode to practice combos and mixups. You guys use it at all or just play human opponents to practice?
I think the guy was saying to put random block, random counter hit and quick stand.

now to fix my microphone
Good games to you too! Sorry i had to run, had some unexpected company show up.
Also, that Ex Shoryuken x3 had me loling pretty hard.
"There's no way he's going to do it again...OMG are you serious!?!?! HAHAHA"

IMHO.
While that is really lame and a huge advantage to characters with DP motions (especially when you can mash-reversal), there's nothing wrong with playing the game as it is. If you are just starting out on fighting games and want to eventually get into other similar games then sure you are shooting yourself in the foot a bit not learning the proper motion, it's really not that bad. I've been playing SF since the early 90's and if I mained a DP-move character I'd definitely put the technique to use. On the other hand, if a miracle happened and Capcom fixed how the game registered DP moves it would be really funny seeing all the new-to-fighting-games flowchart shotos just RAAAGGGE.

That's an awesome way to practice strings and confirms. I don't have the patience to practice that way.
I think I played about 20-25 hours with the Gamepad, and with just 5-10 hours with the stick, I can already see a noticable improvement.
I dont think I ever would have been able to unlock Gouken with the Gamepad, I just couldnt reliably get off supers/ultras with the damn thumbstick. And the D-Pad on the 360 was just too stiff with edges to be able to slide the thumb across it to get moves off. Not to mention how impossible it seemed hitting shoulder buttons on the left side for special attacks.
so correct me if im wrong and my ballsucking is too much, but blanka counters = abel fatamerican and dictator?
still cant do the wakeup upball with blanka, but been beating projectile spammers yay!
Well according to the event hubs tiers (if you believe in such a thing) the only bad matches Blanka has are Sagat, Barlog and Abel, but even those aren't that lopsided.
Personally, I have a hard time against Honda and Fei Long mostly because I just don't know what do against them. It was a damn parade of good Fei's last night, too. He had rediculous corner preasure; I was helpless.

Did you try believing in the heart of the cards? It usually doesn't work, but every once in a while it does the trick. That and a random lucky ultra.

I think I may try that. I need to start doing more chun combos.
I have a few bread and butter ones but I could start using some that incorporate her jab and a few other things for more mix ups.

Yeah I hit training and tried it. It's great. You develop quicker reflexes and muscle memory that way... Well, for hit confirm combos anyway. Doesn't beat sparring though.

anyone up for some matches today? I'm getting to used to a new button layout that will actually let me use all my buttons, so i'll be pretty terrible, but i need the practice.

strange isn't it? To have the power of all 6 attacks at your finger tips.
What I did when I first got my stick was to go through all of the normal trials. It really helped a lot, plus I was able to avoid the embarrassment of losing horribly online :P

I wouldn't mind playing some matches, but I'm not sure when I can actually have time. Do you think you'll be around all day?

Your Sakura was WAAAAY better than any Sakura I've ever fought. I was adjusting to it, then you quit...
GG's though, my Gen wasn't on point.
I'll be online on and off today (lazy sundaysss) so if you would like to fight a decent Gen or E.Honda (learning to play him...) then feel free.
