How big is the preformance difference between SLIed cards on x16 by X16, as opposed to x16 by x8 or x4 for the sencond slot?

    AFAIK it's only 16x/16x or 8x/8x on the motherboards with SLI chipsets.
    Anandtech benchmarked a 650i motherboard (8x/8x) and compared it to a 680i one (16x/16x).

    Bit-tech has some benchmarks of nforce4 chipsets (the DFI is 8x/8x) if you think it was different with older chipsets or drivers.
