The old Fox Animation thread: time for a new one.

General Fox animation thread, Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, etc.

The Simpsons
250px-Simpsons_FamilyPicture.png

Here we go. The absolute best show on TV, absolutely beloved by all. And why shouldn't it be? It's the utter pinnacle of human achievement. There is absolutely no chance in the world that its writing quality will ever, EVER drop, because that would be just as silly as thinking that a drop in writing quality could ever be reversed. Put those ridiculous thoughts out of your head.

At any rate, this series follows an American family as they attempt to keep their spirits up while dealing with horrible cases of jaundice.

Family Guy
The_Griffin_family.png

On the other hand, this thing right here is the shittiest piece of shit that ever shat a shit. Poop. I mean seriously, look at it. How can you gaze upon this creation without being fueled with the holy rage of ten thousand suns?

Characters include Boring, Stupid, Annoying, Insufferable Mary Sue and horribly stunted clones of Homer Simpson and Jimmy Corrigan.

American Dad
AmericanDadPromo.PNG

Egads, it's multiplying. Like cockroaches in a septic tank, Seth Macfarlane productions just keep breeding and crawling up your nostrils while you sleep. How does the man do it? Naked blackmail photos of Fox execs?

Certain crazy people on the Internet claim that this show is actually good, but you should never ever ever believe anything you read on the Internet. Except this post.

The Cleveland Show
TheClevelandShowPromo.png

AAAAAAGH!! I have gazed upon that which rips a man's sanity from his soul and cannot be unseen! How can a kind, loving God permit something like this to exist? There is no good in the universe! All is suffering! Suffering!

Starring the adventures of a mixed black family as written and performed by white people.

Bob's Burgers

Bob%27s_Burgers_promo.png

This show follows the adventures of the Belcher family... hee hee, get it? It's funny because they're named after a bodily function! It would only be better if they were named the Gassier family. Or the Fartsons. Anyway, where was I going with this? Oh right, they run a burger shop. Some people like it, some people don't. Guess it depends on how much you like H. Jon Benjamin, who portrays Bob.

Annnnnnnnd, discuss.

That rant, while pretty spot-on, was the only point in the show where I didn't laugh. Brian doesn't even respond; it's just a two-minute barrage on his character, which is fine enough, but...where's the funny? No punchline there at all, just "Quagmire tears into Brian". Did the writers think, "Yeah! We really gave it to that fictional character!"

    Very strange.

Yeah the rant was funny, but (like I said in the last thread) it's just hard to accept the moral high ground going to the slave trading serial date rapist, even if he's open about what he is.

I think if Jerome had given that speech it might have worked better. Instead of "Yeah, I hate you and here's why", it could have been "I just met you and I see right through your bull".

I'm sorry, but there's a clear difference between dating bimbos and being a serial rapist. Admitting you're a serial rapist doesn't exactly win you any points here.

Quagmire gets a pass on his behavior because it's clear the character isn't meant to be taken seriously. Brian kind of is, though. When he gets on the soap box about something, goes through a moral dilemma, or has relationship issues, it generally isn't played for laughs. More often than not, he's suppose to be the voice of reason.

It'd be resolved by the end of the episode.

Or halfway through the episode and then Brian could spend the rest of the episode talking about how terrible president Bush is, or something. And Peter would get naked.

Yeah, Quagmire gets a pass so long as he's just being Quagmire.
I don't think anyone bats an eye at him keeping a dozen asian chicks tagged in his garage, or him ordering enough roofie-coladas that the bartender assumes that is what he wants whenever he's with a girl, or drugging the girl on a dating reality TV show and dragging her back to his room. Or even when he says he'll meet his daughter in 18 years (giggidy). That's all his character, like you said, he's not meant to be taken seriously.

But it gets taken into account when he pops out with some huge rant that is supposed to be taken seriously.
