So I like shows about cake like Ace of Cakes, Wedding Cake Wars, Amazing Wedding Cakes, Cake Boss, and Ultimate Cake Off. You know, the usual stuff.

Still, when they start covering shit like wood and styrofoam with fondant and butter-cream, it's not really about the cake anymore, is it? I'd much rather have an actual cake than a statue covered in frosting, you dicklicks.

    Whew. Okay, I'm calm.

    Regarding Mozart,
I took a short course on the requiem as a musical structure, and I have to say that his requiem is goddamn amazing. It's true he didn't finish it himself, and had only left notes and sketches for what he was planning on doing. Overall I still thoroughly enjoy it. I also don't think "theatrical" is quite how I would describe him. I think in the context of the requiem, which is based off of the normal liturgy, things like the Dies Irae are supposed to be very 'fire and brimstone,' and that's exactly what Mozart conveys.

If you want an amazing, knock-over-the-congregation-with-its-power requiem, check out Verdi's Dies Irae.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW1Uc-grcMs&feature=related

Fun fact, he did actually write this requiem for a friend who had died. He was quite upset about the death, and I think perhaps that comes across in the music in various ways: anger, for example, in the Dies Irae.

Also, Bach is cool but he's a completely different period. Mozart is a goddamn genius though.

M_D - Oh, shit. I just took notice of your location! Portland, Maine? My family drives through there at least two or three times a year, to visit extended family in Maine, during the summer and early fall. I never go with them though....I don't see the point in feigning interest in people I can't relate to on any level based on loose blood/marital relations.
