The GREAT Outdoors! - Some things are just better when done outside. (OP NSF56k)
So for most of you guys right now it's coming into winter which means some of you who hate snow may just want to stay inside and cuddle next to a fire or something warm that cannot burn you.
Still, just because the weather is frightful, there's no reason that being out there can't be absolutely delightful.
In this thread we celebrate the great outdoors and all activities that can only take place (or are just plain BETTER) outdoors such as:
CAMPING!
and ROCK CLIMBING!
(this is actually Blake, for those who do not know)
and FISHING!
and SAILING!
and HIKING!
and stuff you can do at a BEACH!
and SCUBA DIVING!
(this is Druhim!)
and HORSEBACK RIDING!
and BIKING!
and ULTIMATE FRISBEE!
and SKIING!
or SNOWBOARDING if you're hip like that!
and of course SLEDDING or TOBAGGANING!
and WHITEWATER RAFTING!
and you're going back indoors but it's still an outdoor activity: CAVING!
and GOLF!
and just to be thorough, you've got HUNTING!
Let us bond over our enjoyment of the various things you can do outdoors and maybe even offer advice, tips, or tricks to those who are interested in getting started on something! Share pictures of your past outdoor excursions or gush about your experiences!
I'm cool with snow. It lets me know the bees and bears are gone, but then i have to watch out for snow mobiles and yeti. Which are basically the same thing as bees and bears.
the last camping trip type deal I went on was over may long weekend last year
me and about 4 buddies went to a friend's cabin, which had no heat, electricity, or running water, was on a really big angle and was generally the unsafest, dirtiest place I have ever been
but i was either high or drunk for the entire weekend so I didn't really notice
Holy shit, I was actually just going to make this thread. Weird.
I have all my requirements for my degree fulfilled, so next semester I'm taking advantage of my school's recreation program. They have this thing called the CORE program, which is an acronym for some stupid bullshit or another.
Point is it's basically a semester's worth of courses in wilderness survival and leadership. We'll be mountain climbing, caving, white-water canoeing, sea kayaking, and getting certified in all kinds of things.
I'm super stoked and at the same time not looking forward to buying gear. Most of the stuff I have is either falling apart or not of good enough quality for the shit we'll be doing.
Goddamn skunk who the hell do you think you are? Piss off!
I totally yelled at some raccoons once.
Dudes were chillin' on my back deck and I'm like AW HELL NAW
Get out there to yell at them, and there's more!
My dad tries to get them to go away, it doesn't work, so he grabs a gun.
He is firing into our back yard on halloween night as I am handing out candy.
Then apparently the cops were called, and they went to my neighbor's house, because that's where they thought the gunshots were coming from.
They proceed to arrest my neighbor, who is crouched in the corner of a room with a gun, because he thinks someone is shooting at him, he isn't supposed to have guns because he has hells of felonies and shit.
Tl;dr Raccoons got my neighbor arrested and the neighborhood was a lot less interesting for the next 10 months or so.
Today was opening day at Alyeska, so I went skiing! It was pretty much white ribbon of death, only lower mountain open. But there were a couple of small ungroomed areas that got opened during the day, so I got a few pow turns in.
Anyways, it was awesome, I've missed skiing so very much. At the end of the day I started trying to teach myself to ski switch, it was hilarious I'm sure to anyone watching.
Also fuck snowboarding.

I want to see it!
Then I just kind of stopped. Maybe I should start again.
BIKING
and SKIING
and sun and mosquitos and snow
mainly winter stuff
but thanks RE: cycling
snowboarding > skiing
completely and in every way

Cross-country skiing is awesome.
Skating on an outdoor rink is, you guessed it, awesome.
I love winter. To hell with the haters.

noooope!
but thanks for playing
Its also hella fun to go hiking up near Mt. Rainier, the tallest peak in Washington State and the Lower 48.
Rimrock Lake in the Eastern Cascades also offers many fine trails and campsites.
But lately I've been jonesin' to visit the Queets River area again. That place captured my imagination.
Washington is a pretty awesome state when you want to do visit the outdoors.
you know how usually they say 'five man' but they'd actually maybe fit three?
well it turns out 'seven man' is actually a bloody castle of tents
(kayaking is rad)

GoFund The Portland Trans Pride March, or Show It To People, or Else!
it's simply a matter of preference
however after skiing for 10 years, I decided to try snowboarding many years ago and never looked back

and my friend who runs the kayak shack gives me this kayak all "this one is basically untippable, you should be alright"
right out in the middle of the lake, I tip the kayak
I ended up having to swim to shore, weighed down by my jeans and hoodie (I wasn't really prepared to go kayaking)
got the hang of it when were heading back though, lots of fun
hopefully i'll get the chance to do it again next summer
Yeah, I was a hardcore skiier for a while.
Then I tried snowboarding and I have enjoyed it ever since.
Anyways, it was awesome, I've missed skiing so very much. At the end of the day I started trying to teach myself to ski switch, it was hilarious I'm sure to anyone watching.

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
you either haven't tried snowboarding
or you're a ponce
I wish I could skate outside
but it will never happen in this country until the next ice age
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
or maybe you just like skiing?
why don't you guys talk about Macs and PCs too!
and XBOXs and Playstations!
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
I cannot wait until the river freezes up here
it turns into the world's largest outdoor rink
I fell down a lot when I tried snowboarding.
I like skiing because I fall down less.
GoFund The Portland Trans Pride March, or Show It To People, or Else!
then I tried snowboarding
and now... I do both
it's almost like they're both really fun in different ways!
