I'm listening to the bombcast, and good gods, that girl is the most unaware person in the universe. Either that, or she enjoys being 'ironic' in the Morisette vein.
I'm going to listen to the last E3 bombcast tomorrow at work. I'm prepped for a hell of a ride.
See, the thing is... it's not like, a so bad it's good sort of thing. It's just loud and confused and generally shitty. Some decent discussion near the end, but not worth listening through parts with Leigh.
Yeah, I couldn't really recommend this particular podcast to even the fans of the show. The Harmonix guys trying to pimp RB3, plus Barnett being an ass, plus Leigh being herself, plus some of the regulars getting chased away from time to time really really disrupts the chemistry of the show.
I watched it on video but I'm having a hard time believing it would play better as a podcast.

Yeah, I think Barnett is not worse than most tame drunks. They exaggerate, raise their voice, and repeat themselves a lot. Of course, that's usually enough to annoy me, but Leigh makes Barnett look like a pleasant English gentleman.

It wasn't as godawful as I was expecting, if only because she was loud, beligerant and interrupting everyone while she was apologising about how last year she was loud, beligerant and interrupting everyone. But there were just too many occasions where she completely derailed the train of thought.
Honestly, I thought the Leigh podcast was very entertaining and memorable, just for the sheer chaos of it. Not to everyone's tastes, though.
Yeah, the way I see it there are 50+ Bombcasts a year that are the standard
If they wanna have a bunch of drunk people and just go nuts one week a year, especially a week where they did four podcasts, let it rip. It's a refreshing change, just not one you'd like to hear every week.

I have no idea how people dislike Paul Barnett. He's been fantastic on every Bombcast he's been on!
Just wanted to say thanks for this thread - I am travelling this weekend and was looking for some podcasts to occupy while driving and I haven't tried out any of these.
I'm about 30 minutes in to the famous podcast now.
At first I was like, people are being way too hard on Leigh. But man, 30 minutes in and its like shut the fuck up.
She is like a female Micheal Scott. She refuses to not be the center of attention for one second and sit back and let other people talk for a little. If she asks a question and people either, don't hear her or ignore it, she will ask the same question again, LOUDER. If someone else says something that gets a laugh, she will reiterate the comment, but LOUDER.
Hopefully she will tone it down as the cast continues, but I don't know how much more I can take.
EDIT: God dammit, she will ask a question and then jump in when someone is trying answer it.

I was nervous in the episode before when John Vignocchi showed up again, because the last episode he was in was a clusterfuck of awfulness that I couldn't stomach. He was the essence of restraint compared to what's-her-name.

You know before listening to that podcast I had nothing against Leigh Alexander. Due to her associating with Gamasutra and that bit she did with Rock Paper Shotgun I would assume she was intelligent commentator on the games industry. Even during it I could even deal with her being super annoying, some people are just like that and alcohol doesn't improve shit, but the whole, "people are hating on me BECAUSE I'M A GIRL" and "people at E3 were all freaked out because there was A GIRL THERE" shit really bugs me. She comes off as a person who has nothing but disdain for the audience she writes for. But as she pointed out like 20 times, Gamasutra isn't a consumer magazine.
Plus I'm from Boston, so, yeah.
Maybe I'm just being sour because I was listening to the podcast while working on some particularly frustrating stuff for work.

I've done a pretty good job of avoiding them so far. If something is unpleasant, I can choose not to include it in my life.
