Sorry to jump into an ongoing discussion but I just have a semi-quick question re: FFIV: The After Years
I bought the base game last night and noticed that there are a ton more chapters for $3 each. I don't have a problem with this because although I'm pretty early in the game it is hitting the precise old school RPG spot I was hankering for.
My question is: About how long should I expect each chapter to take me? I'm trying to gauge if I should just buy them all in one go to not be constantly interrupted, or if they can take several hours each and I can buy them every few days as I have time to play.
Has anyone played Crystal Chronicles: My life As a King?
Yes.
It's pretty fun. The base game is fine for getting your enjoyment out of it, DLC is mostly unnecessary. I have the other three races just for the sake of completeness. Some of the DLC is actually bad though, one of the houses is inefficient use of space.
But yeah, a fairly uncomplicated sim game, read reports of your heroes fighting, upgrade shops so they sell better things, unlock new buildings for town, work on an optimal placement and setup for everything. Not bad for a playthrough or two.

An adorable and awesome Wii game that was sadly overlooked because people suck.

An adorable and awesome Wii game that was sadly overlooked because it was on the Wii.
Maybe if they called it "My Kingz".
Apparently this is the Cloud people want.
Ironically, the tattoo makes him more emo. No way a dude like that's going to keep a tat of his dead girlfriend when there's a living, instantly bang-able chick not two feet from him.
Box art is from the US release of the second title. The first never hit the US.
So what the hell is this game?
I like to think of this game as the mark for when Square realized what a huge moneymaker Final Fantasy was, and decided that they could really just toss the characters into any old game and make far more money than they would otherwise.
This game is a "Roguelike" as they call them, although significantly less hardcore and with far less freedom to choose classes or things like that. You work your way through dungeons, get some loot, use a pretty basic combat system to best enemies, and that's about it.
I remember picking it up to rent at some point, but I didn't really enjoy it much. This was long before I was aware of "Rogue" and similar titles, so maybe I just wasn't properly prepared. But to me, it felt like a mediocre and otherwise unremarkable game with some FF icons tossed in.
I haven't touched the series since then, but I believe there's another Chocobo Dungeon game for the Wii, and a DS title that hasn't been released in the US.
Discuss! (Assuming you ever played these, which I'm guessing few have)
Well, the FF spinoffs kinda get obscure after Tactics, more so if you don't do all the sequels

I'm not a big tower defence guy, but I've had a blast with My Life as Darklord. It's one of those games that I'll come back to every few weeks just to play a couple of levels. I kind of suck at it though.
Personally I'm more excited for The Crystal Bearers than anything else SE is releasing. The story stuff in the most recent trailer didn't really do much for me, but the gameplay still looks really fun.

That link that Snugglesworth put up?
I'm very aroused.
I'm not crazy about that design. What's with its ankles?
Funk, that's what.

Which is why FFXII's Admantoises will always be awesome. Pretty much just a walking shell.
Probably spends most of its time in water, with the shell the only part accessible.
Clearly there's something even bigger whose main prey happens to be this adamantoise

That would've been an amazing reveal, ruined by these screen shots.
FFXII had awesome cockatrices too. They were adorable.
I want a 3D boss battle where you literally have to climb each section, FFVI-style, to reach the top.

Me too. I especially like the NEVER FORGET on the belt buckle.
