A lot of those moments don't belong on that list at all.
In fact, I'd say the two FF6 choices and Zack's death are the only ones that are reasonably awesome and worthy of memory. I'd have definitely put Ashe's conversation with the Occuria, the whole confrontation on the Floating Continent scene, the raising of the Big Whale (was that what it was called?) in FF4, and a scene I can't talk about because it's in FFXIII.
But seriously, that Kimarhi scene? Galuf's death? WTF.

Raising the Big Whale? Are you joking? Not only was it over in less than a moment (and the Big Whale music sucks. SUCKS.), it has no lasting impact on the storyline or the characters at all. Yay! It's a spaceship! TO THE MOON!

Hm, I'm going to have to disagree with the FF X choice. I would say the battle with Yunalesca, the kiss in Macalania Forest, or possibly the reveal of the true purpose of summoners were a lot more memorable and important than the Kimhari fight. Dunno if others would consider it top ten worthy, though.

The three best moments in FFX were the wedding crash, the reveal/battle with Yunalesca, and to a lesser extent the assault on Sin.
Most of that list is "WTF". Zack's last stand belongs at #1. The FFVI Opera belongs. FFIX's ending should be on there instead of the play opening. The battle between the Gardens was more intense than the Dolet raid in FFVIII by far. The rest of the list doesn't belong.

The scene where Sephiroth goes nuts should stay, probably the most intense moment of FF7 - watching Seph look at you after he's just slaughtered and set fire to a village of completely innocent people.
FF10 - there's a lot of better scenes. Meh to Kimahri fighting, hell - I hated that part because it was the only battle I actively died in as I hadn't used Kimahri the entire game.
FF8 - Agreed, the Garden fight was stronger BUT - that Dollet scene was what got me hooked, I played that bit dozens of time on the demo and it just made my love for 8 all the more potent.
Wait, I didn't read the whole thing through earlier. Did Vincent just trash Galuf's death scene? It is the Final Fantasy death scene and anyone who says otherwise is so horrifically wrong.
I didn't think Kimarhi was useless. I took him down Rikku's path, and it was awesome to have a second person who could use Al Bhed Potions.
Actually, with regard to characters being useless, I like how you were encouraged to use every character in FFX. Sure, against normal enemies, the kind that were killed in one hit by the correct answer, it felt kind of cheap, but against larger foes everyone still had a place.
I think they could have done boss fights better though. Even though some (Yunalesca) were totally awesome, they could have pushed the "use everyone" angle more by segmenting boss fights so that each party member has a relevant segment. Maybe this wouldn't necessarily be better, come to think of it, but it would be more dynamic and I'd be interested in seeing how it would play out.
Look at his skill set again, there is really almost no reason to ever use Kimarhi. That's his biggest weakness and strength of course, considering they put him in the middle of the sphere grid, allowing you to make a backup of any character.
No, I was talking more from a story perspective. He's like Yuna's Chewbacca...only with less personality.

From a story perspective, I'd have to agree, but having an extra useful character is a nice bonus.
It's like in FFXII, where you keep around a B-team just in case you piss off an elemental/you need to nuke someone with Quickenings.
I never really bothered with that. I have Lure on Vaan at all times, so he's really the only one taking damage. If things are going to shit and I am desperate for heals, everyone is being targeted anyway and you can't switch them out.
However, I still dislike the License Board. It wouldn't be so bad if the schools of magic were grouped together better, or if you could actually cast them once you unlocked them. As it is now, it looks like someone just vomited all these licenses into place. This especially applies to the technick's section; I'd like an unrelated cornucopia of abilities more if any of them were actually useful.
Furthermore, who the hell is enforcing them? The guys I'm fighting?
So in honor of FF13's release, I decided to replay FFX. This time, I'm going to try to do all the extra post-game stuff rather than just go straight to the ending. I'm a little surprised at how well the game has held up after all these years - it's still one of the best looking PS2 games around despite being such an old game.
I knew people would get into a fit over the Khimari choice, but I didn't pick it just for the sake of controversy. I have many, many favorite moments in FFX, as well as FFVI, FFVII, and FFIX. Narrowing it down to ten choices was not easy, and trust me when I say I thought long and hard on my decisions.
But as I disclaimed on the post, these were my own personal favorite moments, and not all of them ones I consider the "defining" moment in each game. I adore FFX's more dramatic pieces, like Tidus and Yuna in the lake, when they finally reach Zanarkand (which was going to be my original choice) and the ending.
But deep down, I've always loved the personal, character-driven battles. Wakka's Bliztball tournament was another favorite of mine, but in the end I chose Khimari's confrontation because the buildup was simply brilliant, and so was the actual battle and (of course) the music.
Khimari may not be my favorite character in FFX, but damn if his defining moment wasn't an awesome one. I feel the same way about Galuf, hence his spot in the Top Ten as well.
Also because, seriously, you can't get a manlier death than that. Not even Zack could top it (in manliness).
Also, like Vincent did, I want to hear your personal picks. Just a few of your own faves.

Nice to see the FFVI love on that list. I liked VII alot, but I really think alot of its hype came from great marketing and the fact that it was the first 3D FF. Great game tho.
VI just blew me away tho. I remember thinking how amazing it was that they nigh destroyed the world and you and to play through the aftermath of it. AND it had the best ending to any game I've ever seen. It killed me when FFVII ended and I got barely nothing after the huge production that had been made in VI.
I agree on the X moments suggested. I dug Kimahri's story and all.. but it wasn't as moving as alot of the other ones suggested.
My favorite part about Zach's last battle in Crisis Core is that it wasn't some bullshit shot in the back like the flashback in 7. It involved a badass 1st class soldier completely demolishing wave after wave of Shinra's army until the sheer numbers and length of the fight beat him down. Although I did that fight till the game forced me to stop but I guess if you die early in the battle you can reenact the ffvii version of events.
Yeah I mostly liked the remake of FFT but dear god the voice acting ruined the characters voices for me
you mean the PSP version?
What usually frustrates me the most about that is how much slower the battles run than on PS1.
I was going to mention both of these things in a post, but I'm glad someone beat me to it.
I'm known in these circles for having a Saturday morning cartoon villain level of hatred for FFT, but allow me to actually air my legitimate concern over the remake.
FFT had a bunch of problems in my eyes, but let's focus on two related to these posts. One, the story is decently done but poorly translated, falling apart at places. Two, the game has decent sized loads whenever anything goes on.
So when it came time for the PSP port, most people were happy to see that the game was getting a fresh script, and some were happy about the voice acting... While I decided to give the game a fresh chance and saw that what was once a slightly below average script had turned into some sort of Vagrant Story on crack level of bad Shakespearian nonsense. FF XII got it right using some nice British voice actors and word selection in the script to class up the game, while WotL just hammed it up to the moon and back.
The load times? I have no idea. It's not exactly a taxing game visually, and it doesn't just occur when the VAing is employed. Overall, one of TOSE's lazier efforts of an upscaled port.
This is a page old, but these are about the reasons why I have the PS1 version of FFT on my PSP instead. I hate the new translation with every fiber in my being, and the VA's just ruin what's left of the story scenes. The slowdown in battles I don't mind as much, and the cutscenes look nice, but that's about all that I like new in the game

I'd have definitely put Ashe's conversation with the Occuria, the whole confrontation on the Floating Continent scene, the raising of the Big Whale (was that what it was called?) in FF4, and a scene I can't talk about because it's in FFXIII.

Raising the Big Whale? Are you joking? Not only was it over in less than a moment (and the Big Whale music sucks. SUCKS.), it has no lasting impact on the storyline or the characters at all. Yay! It's a spaceship! TO THE MOON!
Raising the big whale seems kinda lame in retrospect, but man, when I was a kid, a giant airship that could go to the moon being hidden under the water was just totally fucking awesome.
I've always thought people's description of the translation problems in FFT are overblown. Yes, it's bad, but it's not "oh my god what is even happening" bad. I understood the whole thing and I did consider it a very good story for a Final Fantasy game at the time.
Plus it's more endearing. Like Algus not understanding what a rat is, then getting the explanation that the word "cellar" means a rat's nest, confusing him even further, at which point the text "Cellar of Sand Mouse" comes up onscreen. It doesn't affect the storyline at all and is just hilarious in the end.
I always liked how enthusiastically the away team said "this is the way!"
As a new PSP owner, I was thinking about getting the FFT remake, but given that I hated the accents in DQ4 remake and I'm very impatient, maybe I should just go with the original PS1 version instead.
If I had to nominate a part from FFXII for a list like that, it would be
Vossler's betrayal, fight, and death.
It contains some of the best writing and acting in the game, and it's the best character arc in the game.
It's also when the story officially comes to a halt.
For the record, choices that almost made the list include:
FFVI:
The march in the snow (OP). (incredible moment, but too brief to replace the other choices)
Kefka attacks the Espers (ultimately I just can't decide on a single defining Kefka moment. can't do it)
FFVII:
Nibelheim Flashback (I love everything about it, but in the end I found the Cloud revelation the most epic payoff of the whole thing)
Sector 7 destroyed (excellent, shocking moment with Christian music thrown in for good measure)
Tifa and Wheelchair Cloud (incredibly depressing, but a favorite scene? I'd just be reiterating what I said about the Celes moment)
FFVIII:
Balamb Garden Attacked (incredible FMV, but some annoying back-and-forth moments keep it from being the best. Dollet Raid was better paced, and holy crap the escape scene is so epic)
FFIX:
Vivi vs Black Waltz (really bittersweet moment, almost made the cut)
Bahamut vs Alexander (another awesome scene, but it's mostly cutscenes. IWTBYC beats it due to interactivity and general silliness)
IWTBYC Part 2 (also came really close, but I felt the scene wouldn't work completely without the first play to set the stage)
FFX:
Blitzball Tournament (I know everyone hates Blitzball, but I love Wakka. Was my original choice)
Tidus and Yuna at Lake (cheesy, but also the best romantic display in an FF)
Crashing the Wedding (awesome action piece with a real tense ending)
Reaching Zanarkand (another moment that almost made the cut)
FFX-2
YRP vs Bahamut (best use of slow music in a boss fight. Almost got listed too)
The wedding crash scene is the best just for Yuna's brief eye roll/sigh when she sees them. All "Jesus fuck you guys what are you even doing seriously I had this one"

Correct.
Correct. Kimarhi is wasted space. How about, you know, the ending? Or Jecht's conversation with his son before the penultimate battle?
Galuf's death is actually an all time great moment equal to any other. It's a reverse unwinnable boss fight carried out by an act of pure manliness.

What other stuff could you be doing? Sitting around in a void not getting any experience points?
You bring in a member or two of the B team to take hits while you concentrate on healing good party members.
There are 5 schools of magic, and technicks.
One character per school, with Vaan as the Technik guy.
Also, Technicks are not very useful.
But its fun!
