SOLVED: Where to find a working older-generation iPod?

I'm looking to pick up an iPod for my fiancee, for Christmas. Because we share the same setlist, and as of now our file space on the computer is kind of limited, at least a 4 gig iPod would work fine. Currently, she has a shuffle, and I have a 3rd generation Nano, 4 gig.

But on browsing on Amazon, all the older models are more expensive, which doesn't make as much sense in my mind. So is there a reliable site for 'refurbished' iPods? Basically I know she wants a version that has a screen, and there's also no point in a Touch or anything larger because she won't use the apps. I just need a cheaper, older iPod for Christmas. Are there any options other than ponying up the $140-ish for a new Nano?

Also, is a refurbished iPod a horrible idea?

The refurbished iPods they have at the Apple online store are definitely not horrible ideas. I can't speak for 3rd-party refurbishments, but the Apple refurbs i've bought have been perfectly functional and excellent in terms of appearance (if I looked closely I could see a few tiny scratches/signs of wear - beyond that it looked new). Plus you get the exact same free warranty that comes with new iPods, and there's a nice discount.

I've got a 20-gig third generation I could sell you. Works fine, I've been the only owner. I don't know how old you're willing to accept. It has minimal wear (I think, I haven't actually looked at it in over a year). The price would be reasonable.

Thanks Kal for reassuring me on the Apple refurbished. I'm gonna go that way, pick up a Nano for $99. Looking at how far that Nano has come from my version, it looks like she'll like it even more than mine.

Thanks guys, this can be locked now. All solved and shit.
