[Direct2Drive] 24 Days of Christmas - 'Tis the season to buy a crapload of games!

Direct2Drive 24 Days of Christmas Sale

It's the time of the year again when digital distributors love to rape you wallet during the holidays, and D2D has a great sale going on. One game a day for 24 days discounted to some ridiculously low price. Their last sale was for their anniversery and every game was discounted to $5, so I'm guessing that might be the price point for these deals to.

I saw this mentioned in our Steam thread but didn't want the deals to get lost in the shuffle. So I'll try to update this thread each day with the new deal. It appears that the deals change over at 1:00 PM EST each day.

The sale page is here: Clicky

The Deals:

Dec 1 - Mirror's Edge $5
Dec 2 - The Witcher EE - $19.95
Dec 3 - Need for Speed Shift - $24.95
Dec 4 - Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 Bundle - $19.95
Dec 5 - Prototype - $19.95
Dec 6 - Majesty 2 - $7.50
Dec 7 - Lord of the Rings:Conquest - $9.95
Dec 8 - Mercenaries 2 World in Flames - $4.95
Dec 9 - Street Fighter IV - $19.95
Dec 10 - Battlefield 2 Complete Collection - $14.95
Dec 11 - Dragon Age: Origins - $39.95
Dec 12 - The Sims 3 - $39.95
Dec 13 - Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor - $7.50
Dec 14 - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 - $9.95
Dec 15 - Need for Speed ProStreet
Dec 16 - Section 8 - $12.50
Dec 17 - Resident Evil 5 - $24.95
Dec 18 - Trine - $9.95
Dec 19 - Civ IV Complete - $15.95
Dec 20 - Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - $19.95
Dec 21 - Machinarium - $9.95
Dec 22 -
Dec 23 -
Dec 24 -

Edit: I no longer care to update this thread. The Steam sale blows everything here outta the water, and even before that started, the D2D sales were pretty crap.

The UK is also doing this, if it's any clue (which I don't know if it is yet) their second game, Street Fighter IV, was priced at $25 (15 pounds) so maybe they wont be doing cheap games every day, just discounted games every day.

I saw this yesterday and just had to sigh. The Steam 5-Day sale was certainly a punch to the cock of my wallet and if they start throwing deals out I can't resist than this is going to be a long month of presents to myself.

The Witcher EE just went up for sale for $19.95... that blows my theory of $5 games all month.

When it comes to these sales, my thinking is pretty much this....

$5: I'll buy most anything that looks interesting, even if its to play for a few hours
$10: I need to at least THINK I'm going to enjoy it and try to play all the way through
$20+: Its dicey. It would depend on the game. At that cost I'm almost tempted to say I need to see some positive reviews for it or have played a demo.

I've never played or heard much of the Witcher, other than it was crap, got patched/updated/re-released/something and turned out pretty decent.

I agree. If you haven't played it yet you should. Your character's a total badass who gets all the chicks. The fighting system is a little odd at first but after a while it's second nature.

Actually more like it is a critically acclaimed RPG that got a MONSTROUS content adding and gameplay overhauling patch a year after release that made it in many peoples minds one of the best RPGs ever made.

I'm also annoyed with today's deal, but only because I already have RA3. When I saw yesterday's ornament, I was hoping to pick up Uprising for cheap, but $19.95 for both games isn't any help.

Game today is Prototype at 19.95$. Mildly tempted, but I'd be concerned about ease of control with a KB&M vs a gamepad.

I don't actually have a gamepad for my PC, but perhaps I should get one. That being said, I did take a look at a youtube video of Prototype being run on the PC on high settings, and it didn't look all that great, so I may just take a pass on this and wait to pick up a used copy on a console.

I personally didn't think that Prototype was worth 20 bucks. That's what I got it for on the PC, and it's just really short and kind of unpolished. It's tons of fun just running around and slaughtering the hell out of people, but it gets old pretty quick. I'd say rent it for a console, get all the superhero-ing out of your system, and then return it.

Prototype certainly looked good on my computer, dunno what his issue was. I also used a usb 360 controller which worked great.

InFamous is a lot slicker and much more varied. It also has a better story and presentation. Prototype is some bullshit virus conspiracy theory thing and most of the missions consist of you running around slaughtering hundreds of people to get to one specific guy and slaughter him in a special way, or something to that effect. Granted, it does give you a power rush more so than InFamous and it does have its own appeal, but I didn't find it to be as lasting as InFamous

But that's just standard Witcher. The deal was for Witcher Enhanced Edition, which includes a bunch of upgrades to the standard game (like new animations, dialogue scenes, revamped inventory, improved weather settings, more NPC variety, etc), as well as new campaigns, and the Enhanced Edition has some other bonuses like a free download of the soundtrack, a making-of, a game guide pdf, a world map, and finally it comes with a game editor to create/modify your own sort of quests.

Newegg has the Enhanced Edition for $37, this was a deal for that version for $20.
