A gift basket with good chocolates, or maybe something from a really good local bakery if you have one. I say this because there's an entire office of people who made whatever this was possible, not just the professionals. Plus, people love getting good food from customers/patients/clients. You can't go wrong with sweets/baked goods.

I'd say it depends on how close you were to the professionals you're talking about. If, over the four year period, it stayed completely professional then sending them a simple thank-you note or similar should suffice. If your rapport was a bit more casual, something like a gift basket or a bottle of wine would probably work better.

I wouldn't go too crazy though; keep in mind you've already given your thanks by paying them. Thank them for going the extra mile, not for doing their job.

This. However, the best gift you can give an attorney or other profesional is to recommend him/her to all your friends/family who may have similar problems to yours in the future. A good reputation is gold.

On the more materialistic end, I find that a tasteful thank-you card and some chocolates to pass around the office do wonders. Nothing too fancy or expensive, however (in some states, there are ethical rules involving gifts from past/present clients).

Yeah word of mouth is a powerful tool.

I think a card and the phrase "I'll recommend you to everyone I know" would do the trick.

I would definitely agree with the shareable gift. They worked hard for you, but all the staff did so too, and it's nice to be recognized, and I bet it feels good as the boss to do so too.
