Help Me Nova Scotia

Hi All.

So while I hate planning wedding crap, honeymoon crap is much more fun. The SO and I decided on Nova Scotia as our destination, what with us loving natural beauty and it's also pretty cost effecient since we live in MA. Our plan so far is to drive up to Bar Harbour and take the CAT to Yarmouth (I guess there isn't a ferry from Mass?) and then...

Well, we don't really know. I've never been to Canada, and he was only to Quebec once. While our focus would be the beauty of the land (we'd be going in June/July) we don't know much else about how to honeymoon (except for, y'know, sexing).

Are romantic packages a good idea? Cottages? Nice hotels? Can anyone recommend any? Cost isn't such a big thing here, we've agreed to set up a Honeymoon Registry that should take a big chunk out it. Our length of stay is variable, ranging from a week to two weeks.

Any advice/personal stories/clever ideas welcome!

Last I knew you can take the CAT from Portland to Nova Scotia as well.

That said, Bar Harbor's worth at least a day or two if you're doing the honeymoon thing. I lived there for a few summers and it's a magical town.

Cape Breton is a beautiful place to visit. I am sure you would be able to find some nice cabin packages along the Cabot trail and soak up the wilderness.

Or if you want something a little more hustle bustle, the Halifax area is a nice location. Lots to do, lots to see but a nice compact, small town feel. All depends what your into I suppose

Cape Breton sounds like an awesome place, but it's way over on the other side of the island from where we would land. We can bring our car on the CAT, there isn't any restriction on driving if you are from the US right? I think a tour of the entire province might be in order...

I grew up in Nova Scotia my whole life. Really I guess it depends on what you are looking to do. I grew up in the southwest part of the province (A little historic town call Annapolis Royal). Also, depending on when you go there might be something going on in the province. There are a fair amount of festivals that go on in the summer.

Throw some ideas out on what you want to do and I'll try and see what might be going on or places that might be interesting.

The only driving "restrictions" are that it's illegal to be driving a vehicle while talking on a cell phone (unless it's hands free) and you must have "running" headlights on your car.

Also, it's a peninsula. Cape Breton is an island.

your looking at i think a 6 hour drive to get from yarmouth to cape breton
you could always do a couple days in chester/mahone bay and then drive to cape breton and do a couple days there

both of them have amazing scenery

here is the keltic lodge site http://www.kelticlodge.ca/
its in cape breton right on the cabot trail

and then for mahone bay and chester there are various bed and breakfasts all over the place
