Craving some Unreal Tournament

I've been really itchin to play some Unreal lately, I remember being pretty addicted to both demos of UT2k4 and UT3 when first released (Haven't played an unreal game since 2k3). I'm just worried the online community for them is dead, I heard Unreal Tournament 3 wasn't too popular and I'm really just stuck on which one to get.

Anyone still play either? Should I even bother?

    I just loaded up Unreal Tournament 3 for PC. Could only find a couple of servers with actual people playing.

    That's a shame, I know it didn't make a big splash when it first came out but I was hoping it'd be a little better than that.

    I think people didn't take to it because it was Unreal Tournament 2004 but prettier

    And not even pretty enough to demand a purchase for the toolset

    I think most players are still on UT1 and UT2k4. The UT2k4 players didn't like the slower gameplay of UT3, so they stayed away, and the UT1 players didn't like that the online pretty much didn't work out of the box, so they stayed away as well.

    When UT2k4 came out I set up a lan with some friends. We ate some magic brownies and proceeded to play all day. Near the end we played assault with the bots on hardest. We couldn't even leave spawn it was so hard lol.
