So, I had a great steak two nights ago and I still have not finished digesting it. I haven't eaten red meat in a while so I think my system is not used to it anymore. I think once I am done digesting this my red meat days will be numbered.
Anyone else go without eating red meat and when they do eat, feel like utter crap?
If you go a long time without eating it, you can damage your ability to eat it temporarily. One of the big dangers after the concentration camps were liberated was overfeeding the jews who hadn't eaten normal food in a long time, their bodies couldn't actually process it and it could have killed them.

No because its a well known case of a large group of people who had to have their bodies basically retrained to eat food (if I'm remembering it right). Godwins is when you bring up hitler for no good reason.

It's pretty much a question of personal preferences.
Do you physically need it? (i.e. live in a place where you can't get your protein fix in another or a better way)
Do you like it?
Does your personal ethical stance allow for its consumption? (killing animals, humane slaughter, etc.)
Beyond that, it's just preferences this way or that, and money and the usual everyday worries.
Personally, I eat red meat, as well as poultry and seafood, although fairly sparingly. There are many good vegetarian dishes, but I don't see myself completely forgoing meat in favor of vegetarian diet, as that'd be bothersome and I'd hate to lose a good portion of culinary delights to experience. I like being an omnivore.
Although fuck Balut, I won't eat half-formed duckling embryo unless I'm starving.
Edit: For some reason I couldn't spell 'stance' without writing 'chance'

I like this, this is a good post. Even if I reached the opposite conclusion, I essentially went through those same three steps.
I say yea for myself personally, but more power to you if it's not your thing. My wife is currently cutting out beef from her diet, not for ethical or religious or health reasons, but simply because she doesn't like the taste as much anymore.
I like my red meat, but not all the time. I come from a very 'meat, potatoes, and gravy' family with regards to dinner. I've turned to prefer lighter fare because of this. But I won't turn down a good prime rib, no sir.
Ideally I'd like to have my meals be 25% red meat, 25% fish, 50% chicken.
You know, I was 21 before I ever had red meat. And then I was drunk at a friend's house in NH.
I eat it every once in awhile, maybe every other month. I never have digestion issues or other problems.

Today I decied to stop eating all pig derived products for the dual reason that I think that my bar of "things that you shouldn't eat" currently sits at the level of dogs and pigs, and then the other reason being I seriously want a pet pig and eating bacon in the morning and then taking Leon Trottersky out for a walk would be too weird.
Of course pork isn't exactly a red meat, but still.

A guy I used to work with had a similar experience. Being a poor college student ment no read meat for him for a while. When he finally had one, it didn't agree with him at all. He either swore off red meat after that, or decided to go full vegetarian, can't remember which.
I don't feel "bad" after eating a steak, but I really don't have the desire to eat another one for a while after that.

YES, a thousand times yes. My family and I have tritip steak at least once a week. The bloodier the better, I don't like to see any carbon on my pieces.
Considering my meals are 90% red meat, 5% poultry and 5% fish, then yes, yes it would.
I...what the hell are you? A fucking wolf?
Get some damn carbs in there
I meant for main courses.
But I have been known to eat a T-Bone with my hands and teeth. There's something very primal and satisfying about that.

Red meat is beef and pork, right? ("other white meat" notwithstanding)
I guess I eat red meat a little less than once a week. The last time I ate an actual steak was sometime in the summer, because it was free - these days I'll eat a hamburger or a sausage but it's something I treat myself to rather than it being a staple of my diet.
However, I'm told that my girlfriend's dad has shot 4 deer this hunting season and isn't showing any signs of slowing down, so we'll probably be seeing an influx of venison in our freezer pretty soon.

Aw man, the carbon's the best part!
Seriously, a nice bit of crispyness adds a lot to a steak
It wouldn't be a lot worse, no. I don't eat ridiculous amounts to begin with, but I'd be pissed off for having a bunch of recipes that I couldn't use anymore, as well as missing out on many delicious dishes.
Already, there's a variety of meat dishes I don't really eat due to the way they taste, but on the flipside there are many that are mouthwateringly delicious.
Btw Arch, how'd your reasoning go in regards to ending up a vegetarian? I could see myself going that way if I had health-related reasons(eating meat sparingly has negligible negative effects, though it depends a lot on how you make the food as well) or the local meat industry decided to go James Bond Villain on the processes or otherwise pissed me off.
At the moment cutting red meat out of my diet isn't a massive deal for me, but it's big enough that I won't do it just for the hell of it, as I'd have to replace the protein intake in other ways as well as such a choice inconveniencing me in day-to-day life, in addition to liking the taste.
If it doesn't fly in the air or swim in the sea, it's read meat ... I assume the platypus, the seal, the otter, and the vampire bat also have red meat on them.

i agree.
but at what cost man, what COST?
Makes me want to hollow out a hole and perform Cunnilingus.
I know you guys are semi-joke posting, but I am really curious
WOULD your life really be that much worse if you cut red meat out of your diet? Is it really like that huge of a deal to you?

I fucking love chicken.
I eat it every once in awhile, maybe every other month. I never have digestion issues or other problems.

My girlfriends Dad makes the best steaks. He is a pro at them.

Okay, I assumed you were making a joke and that your dinner was a steak, chicken wings, and fish sticks or something
That being said, I love red meat. A nice Filet, Medium-Rare is a thing of perfection.
Oh yes I do....:winky:
Though I suppose the word I'm looking for is Cunnilingus
you are my favorite antithesis, you know that right?

There has been more than one night where my dinner consisted of leftover steak and leftover BBQ chicken.
