Guys, I'm planing on a support build but I'm not sure if it will be as awesome as I hope. I want to get all of the aura items to be a maximum support character.
Here is what it may look like:
Character: Alistar
Items: Sapphire Crystal and a mana pot
2) upgrade to Tear of the Goddess
3) Boots
4) Aegis of the Legion
5) Soul Shroud
6) Emblem of Valour
7) Upgrade boot
8) upgrade to Archangel's Staff
9) Upgrade to Stark's Fervor
10) buy Abyssal Scepter
There is a potential to sell Archangel's Staff and get Innervating Locket, but I think the buffs are already taken care of with other auras.
The result:
My team during 5 man ganks have:
+35 armor
+40 magic resist
+8 damage
+20% life steal
+25% attack speed
30 HP/5
12 Mana/5
-15% cooldown
and our oppenents have
-25 armor
-20 magic resist
All for being near me while I am somewhat tanky and spamming heal every 5 seconds.
*note the stats are from the LoL website... so they are probably wrong.

I really think you should put a sunfire cape in there, the extra 40 damage a second would add to the damage your team does in gank fights, as well as make it easier for you to farm that expensive build. Alistar is kind of hard to get monies with if you don't have a sunfire in my experience.
I think the odds of you getting enough money for that before the buffs granted aren't all that imperative is close to nil. It's not completely useless, but I'm not sure you shouldn't just go for a straight alistair tank instead.
Trying to make money with Alistar sucks. Probably the worst gold-generator in the game. That said if you're going for support get that heart thing that restores 50h/20m to people around you when you cast a spell since you're spamming heals anyway.

He should at least pick up aegis, maybe soul shroud
but yeah, you should split up your auras onto different characters for the sole fact of if you have them all on one, you won't get that many because most don't help with farm

This game is pretty fun despite me having my ass handed to me repeatedly. I think I'm going to stick with Kassadin although Morgana is appealing for the ranged support thing.

I tried this and I got to step 6 with little problem. I could have gone further but we raped the team in ~28 minutes.
After playing I'm going to switch up the order:
Items: Sapphire Crystal and a mana pot
2) upgrade to Tear of the Goddess
3) Boots
4) Mana Manipulator
5) Emblem of Valour
6) upgrade Mana Manipulator to Soul Shroud
7) upgrade Emblem of Valour to Stark's Fervor
8) Upgrade boot
9) buy Aegis of the Legion
10) upgrade to Archangel's Staff
11) buy Abyssal Scepter
I think I should get to 8 most games.

Mmmmmmm...
Sweet, sweet, satisfying pubstomp:
First time I've played Soraka since I've bought her. T'was fun.
edit: Oh yeah, destroyed them in under 25, so they couldn't even surrender.
Man karma is going to be a bitch tomorrow. Me and two buddies got together as an arranged team and queu'd it up all day.
Seven wins in a row, no losses. The matchmaker is going to slaughter us tomorrow, I just know it.
That's a bitch... happened to me last week... I went almost a dozen games without a win.... and I don't lose often! [glances over his shoulder to see if the "matchmaker" saw that last comment].
I'm trying to get into LoL now having never really played Dota (I was more about TD's and Island Trolls), and I get the main concept of the game, and I've played a couple games not really knowing what to do the whole game, buying random items and moving down one lane. Looking through this thread has me really, really confused. How would I go about learning more specific strategy and whatnot?
The recommended items for each character are usually an okay place to start rather than random items. (They're at the top right of the store window.)
Beyond that don't die.
http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board has a guides sub forum where you might find some stuff of use to you. Though keep in mind anyone can post anything so a lot of the character specific guides are mediocre or bad.

Essentially the game is broken down into three phases:
Beginning game: stay in your lane, kill creeps with your partner (sometimes solo) for exp and gold, DONT DIE
Middle game: players shift around some more, be prepared to switch lanes to gang up on an enemy who's by himself, DONT DIE
Late game: usually most of the team groups together to push the enemy base, DONT DIE

probably the best advice you can contemplate in game is: does this seem dangerous?
if you aren't backed by a couple team mates, you probably shouldn't do it. a common good rule of thumb is to never extend yourself past the river when an enemy is missing for a while; they're probably setting up a gank. now, sometimes this is a bit silly, as in LoL you do want to push towers, but early on, try and stick together with your lane/teammates and play it safe.
edit: as for more specific strategy (I'm guessing pertaining to one hero?) you can ask here or look at the guides section on the League of Legends board. Most are of high enough quality to build a character correctly, and may give you specific hero tips. one last piece of advice: keep one eye literally on the minimap. it is so good it could be considered overpowered. if you are bot and mid is missing for longer than 10 seconds? back up or head into brush, and tell your lanemate to be careful. awareness is the best resource in this game.

Man, seems all these my games these days have been decided by extreme carries.
For example:
And then another game I went 1-11 with Twitch and a Yi on the other team completely destroyed.
it seems like games this patch come down to which team has the Yi, Twitch, or Tryndamere that got ridiculously buff.
Man, I had one of those days today. Where everything I tried to do just went horribly wrong and the enemies seemed to always single target me out of the group. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes but...so much of it just seemed like random BS.
EDIT: Also, I cannot friggin' wait for the new hero rotations. No more Twitch? Yes please!
How to get over a losing streak that doesn't look like breaking (at least until I play with some solid PA guys... Dracil ).
I just hate solo queuing now. We roll when it's a premade, but then when I leave the safe confines of the team, I get thrown in with people who seem to have just been introduced to a mouse and it makes me feel like maybe I'm shit and then they feed and I lose and then cry and then am sad.

- Ode to MM.
well just remember theres really not that much of a point difference between a win and a loss, tonight I seem to be on a roll I'm on my 5th victory in a row.
Good games Chubbly. I'm in the situation now, solo queue = much anguish (had an Udyr on my team earlier today and went oh no, and I was proven correct), premades = win.
Yeah, as long as I get one win a day for the bonus, I'm happy.
Moving on, I wish the first win bonus was a 'per day' and not a per 24 hours. The per 24hours thing really sucks because unless you win your first game everyday your going to miss out on a couple times per week if you can only play certain hours of the day.
Trying to grind IP for Gangplank (almost there) and have been using Jax to do it... damn he's fun. I've really been enjoying him. I've also been interested in trying out Nasus, anyone have experience with him? What's he good at? How fun is he?

Nasus is fun. His ult is good to tank with as you watch your opponents wither. If you get sheen, you have the potential to do really hard hits.

I think it gives different values to different heroes. i.e, its % based or something like that

Nope.
Movement 1 is +50, 2 is +70, 3 is +90, 5 is +130.
A winning streak, you say?
We can't have that.
Ah, so +50 for the first one and +20 for each additional. I guess that makes it easy to remember then. Thanks!
