Oh dear lord, how do you guys manage to actually play at the high ELO rankings? I have some friends that are consistently up there, and every time I play with them, I get my face smashed in, over, and over, and over.
I played with some of the PA folks who always seem to be on vent. Did okay as Kayle, because really, what does Kayle do besides shield someone and then go have some hot chocolate.
Completely embarassed myself trying to play sivir last night though. Its sad... I usually slaughter people as Sivir and Trist but they were so far above me that I was just a rag doll.
If anyone closer to my pitiful ELO wants to group up, name ingame is Errant. Level 24 right now.

Kayle can be quite potent, but not on her own I think. Pre Twitch nerf Kayle's ult on an ulting Twitch worked wonders. Don't know about now. In general, while the shield will save lives if you use it that way, it's considered more effective as an offensive tool. Slap the shield on someone who can do some damage as they charge the other team or somesuch.
So basically, she's support. Support with good damage early.

I don't think I'm at high ELO, as I still get matches pretty quickly and regularly get paired with shit teammates. (It's a lovely Catch 22, isn't it? You raise your ELO by winning games, but having midding ELO means you regularly get groups with idiots and feeders who lose you games).
But I will say that the thing that separates the obviously skilled players from the dumbasses is map awareness. "High ELO" guys make a point of knowing where everyone is at all times, and they really know when to seize opportunities to gank or grab lizard/golem/dragon. They constantly look at their minimap and use it to gauge whether they should press forward, retreat, group up, split up, etc. They also use wards WAAAAY more than Joe Pubber does (i.e. only when there are stealth heroes olol).
I'd say the number one thing you can do to compete with a high ELO dude is use your minimap. Also, remember that whenever you get near an enemy minion or kill a neutral monster camp, you just gave away your position. (Protip: if you're attacking an enemy creepwave but leave it in order to help a gank, a map aware enemy will see you coming. Finish off the creepwave so that you disappear from the minimap, then go join the gank).
Basically the idea behind team fights would be Alister flashes in, stuns what he can, kat shunpos in, ults, and amumu locks them in place while kat tears down a couple heros.
Sivir bouncy bouncy clears creeps and provides attack and move speed support to Tryndamere( 1st choice) or yi (second choice if your Carry player doesn't know the glory that is tryndamere)
The only problem here is the lack of stun. You really only have alister's pop to stun, which isn't really a bad thing. Substituting udyr for your DPS can make match ups against teams that are heavy with over time ults (kat,fiddle,nunu,) could make your team more viable in a team match; granting that they are paying attention enough and have the mobility to make it to the target they need to lock down.
It is however my opinion that killing them before they can finish their channel is the best thing. Nothing like watching a NuNu cry as I take him down in 2 swings while he tries to ult. Fuck yeah 1300 damage criticals.

That team has exactly one ranged character. Your only AP DPS character is Kat, and she's no Annie or Fiddles or even Veigar. (Not only does she not have an AOE CC, she doesn't have any CC). You have only two real CCs on your entire team, one of which is an ultimate. Kat, Trynd, and Yi are laughably easy to kill currently -- all you need is a single CC to lock them down while your team explodes them with nukes. (Fiddles' three second fear is more than enough to kill Trynd or Yi before they ult to safety, and Kat's ult can be interrupted with a stun).
Also, Frozen Heart and/or Thornmail = gg your team
And Corki being "okay" and "easy to shut down?" Man, what game are you playing? Dude has four, count em, four AOE attacks that all do massive damage, and his physical attacks hurt even MOAR. And his Phosphorous blind + Valkyrie makes him a bitch to kill. He's easily the best ranged DPS in the game right now.
Any team missing either Kassadin/Annie/Fiddle is fail.

Trynd gets shut down pretty easy with CC as Dave said. Hell, Rammus can pretty much shut him down by himself due to Taunt screwing with Trynd's ult. No Ult for Trynd = dead Trynd.

Kat was pretty great until they nerfed her ult a few weeks ago. Now it's just an uphill battle when playing as her since unless you're fed pretty well using her ult on someone is like sneezing at them.

Last two days of games have been horrible. I think I lost 15.
