Ok so I just finished this game. And while it was great, me and Desmond said the same thing at the same time after listening to that person speak.
One thing that bugs me though....
WHY doesn't anyone in the future use GUNS for fucks sake? Even Ezio had a gun and he was in the 15 century!
I was wondering that too, but then I remembered:
They have a machine that can relive your ancestors memories, and guns in the rennisance, and fucking mind control orbs. Also, it's a video game >_> don't look for logic, you will only end up hurting yourself.
Well, y'know, I loved it really. And you're right too.
But it's an amusing observation, I think. I can't help but imagine Warren at the end just waiting for you with a sawn off pointed at you "Right ok, stop fucking around now. In the van"
After a replay of this game over the weekend, I've finally made Assassin's Creed 2 the first game I've got a platinum trophy on. Had some trouble with the Messer Sandman trophy, but I eventually got it.

Congrats. It's the first and only 360 game I've gotten 1000/1000 achievements on. Aside from that I got 200/200 on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

I got it without even trying by pressing the attack button when all the guards come to attack me during the pit fight in Carnivale.
It is. The trainer will show you how to do it, but it's always available.
I know this because I had to restart the game from scratch because I wasn't able to transfer my old savegame across using a memory stick when I upgraded my PS3's hard drive just after Christmas. I didn't learn any moves from the trainer and was still able to fling sand to get the trophy.

Let us not forget time-traveling goddesses who paint the fourth wall. And the pseudo-science of genetic memory. Then again, Abstergo's guys really should have had tranq guns, now that I really think about it. And Desmond should've just jumped on the truck and shanked Vedic's ass, instead of talking crap and sloooowwwlllyyy advancing on him. Oh well.
I cannot wait for the next one. I'm kinda annoyed at myself that I'm completely worn out this one by getting my platinum trophy. First game I've ever done that.
So I beat Bonfire of the Vanities, was pretty neat except for the stealth boat mission, that was a trial-and-error fest. Also a couple lines of dialogue not playing, that was annoying. But overall pretty good addition.
I'm trying to get the rest of the feathers before I move on to Chapter 14. Any tips on how to get the last couple other achievements I need (sweep 5 guards at once with a long weapon, and defeat 10 enemies in combat without getting hit). I can never find enemies with the long weapons around, and when I do it's never 5 of them... much less finding 10 guards in one place.

I got the Sweeper trophy during the Carnivale.
After I gunned down the new Doge on the boat, there were plenty of guards about, at least one of whom had a long weapon. I just blocked, disarmed him once he struck, backed into a corner and then started sweeping. Got it after a couple of minutes.
The 10 enemies defeated without getting hit trophy I got in Tuscany.
When you're after three of the conspirators, one of them is hiding in the abbey. Once you kill him, there should be more than enough guards around. Just concentrate on block and countering.
Edit: You're near the end game so you'd have to replay to get to those. Hmmmm. I do know that in Venice, there's always a Seeker type guard with a polearm near the middle fast travel station on the south shore of the map. You'd probably have to lead some other guards there to get the numbers up - easy enough to do with the restricted and heavily guarded area just above it.
Ah, I love the Smoke Bomb. Sand attack too, when I can swing it.
But does anyone else love using the coin throw? It makes mobs! It distracts bank-guardsmen! It creates a mobstacle course to slow down chasing guards! It distracts crouds so that you can steal enough to make a profit! Fun for the whole family!
I got the White Edition today. Enjoying it a whole lot. I just finished the second assassination.
How much more is there? Still a long ways to go I hope.

You'll be pleased to learn that you're only about 15% of the way through the game. There's plenty more assassinating for you to do yet.

Excellent. I'm glad they figured out what they did wrong with the first one.
For starters, Ezio actually has a personality.
Just wanted to ask if there was a point of no return on this game. I'm on the part where you're required to collect all 30 codecs, so I was wondering if I'll get a chance to go back and collect all the feathers, viewpoints, and so forth after beating the final boss.
I'm also wondering if The Truth and the feathers impact the ending in any way.

No and no. You can keep playing after the ending.

I own the game, but I haven't started playing yet, is any of the DLC worth getting or SHOULD I get any of it before I start playing to have it all fit into the holes that some folks said were left by its absence? I was actually holding off until they made the bonus areas that were GameStop exclusive available to everybody, but then when the finally released them recently they decided to charge for them instead, are they worth it?

I'd tell you to get Bonfire of the Vanities and not Battle of Forli, if you don't mind an odd little blip in the plot (though nothing you can't figure out from the recap scenes they give you). Battle of Forli is really short and is pretty much a series of guard/follow missions that is really dull. Bonfires is more a series of side assassinations and plays more like an actual mission.
They make the game story a little smoother, but honestly are not really necessary. If you don't have them you are simply told their is an error and you are fastforwarding in time a bit.

I think they were both worth what they were asking for them.
I actually really liked it as I got into it. My main issues were the programming/coding problems. But killing all those guys really brought me back to what I love most about this game...that is, killing guys.
Also, I didn't play AC1 or anything, but am I the only one who, at the end of the Battle of Flori, thought the monk might have been Altair, what with the missing finger and all? Boy am I dumb, because I had to read up that he's been dead in this timeline for like 2 centuries! Anyway
in light of my confusion, should I think about playing AC1? I hear "meh" things though...
It's harder to go back to AC1 after AC2.
If you're interested in the story, you might want to try renting it.
Alternatively, there have to be some playthrough vids on Youtube or somewhere, you could just skip through those to get the story.
Is there a way to map different weapons to the d-pad? I enjoy using the dagger a whole lot more than the sword and the ability to swap to it with one button would be pretty nifty.

...I actually thought the monk would be Altair too, which would've been awesome...and I think entirely possible considering all the "WTF?!" the game throws at you. After all, in the last page of the Codex, he does mention he's tempted to take "one last look" into The Apple. Who's to say the Pieces of Eden can't grant immortality? I mean we have a goddess in a vault. We've already crossed the realm of impossible a long time ago
As much as I like AC1 (no, really!), I cannot possibly see myself going back and playing it. The second one is so much better than the first, the first one is ruined for me, outside of the interesting storyline.
AC1 can be beaten in the span of a rental, and while it's pretty mediocre it's not so bad that you shouldn't be able to stomach it for the sake of getting the story.
Most of the plot points relevant to the overall story are explained pretty well in AC2 though. I'd recommend it if you hadn't played AC2 yet, but since you have I'd say just don't bother.

I actually loved the first AC. For me to actually finish a game it must be good. But despite this, I also agree that AC2 is a better game than AC1. I actually finished last week AC2 and I wish it was longer. I might bite on the DLC because I feel Like I want more.

One thing that bugs me though....
Big sticks which I am now specifically trained to both defend myself against, and use.
I'm not complaining too much, because it did allow that entire sequence to be fucking awesome.
But still.

The one that I had trouble getting was the "sweeper". For the longest time I was only getting 4 guys with it.

Battle of Forli wasn't too great, but it wasn't exactly expensive, and it was nice to have a reason to go back to Forli.
