No one is dumbfounded. But every few pages of this thread someone comes in having played AC2 before AC1, and the best advice to give in that situation is to avoid AC1 as it is very difficult to enjoy playing it after AC2.

AC1 is an okay game by itself, but if you've played AC2 then it just feels like a proof-of-concept for funding for the REAL game.

So, the controls and the way you navigate the menu system are kinda awful in the PC version. It does this idiotic zoom-in highlight when you hover over an option with the mouse. Which makes sense if you're looking at the options with a controller but with a mouse it's very obnoxious with the little pause waiting for the zoom for each item you hover over. And on some menus you can't go from item A to C or D or whatever, you have to move from A to B to C in order as if you're pressing a controller stick.

And the controls within the game itself are just awkward. When it give you an option to press a certain button it doesn't list the key it lists the action, like the head is E it won't say press E, it will say press head.

    LAZY!

Well to be perfectly honest that's been the "point" of their system since the first one. It's all set up to corespond with a body part. They want the player to think "head", "right hand", "left hand", or "feet".

If yuo need to do a "feet" action, use what ever button you have for "feet".

It makes a little more sense with a controler, since it's layed otu to corespond to the four parts of the body they use.

    thats a matter of opinion.

AC1 being a good game is a matter of opinion.
AC2 being better than AC1 is a matter of fact.

The reason I played AC1 to the finish was for the resolution to the present-day meta-story. I found it vastly more interesting than the actual Altier portions of the game.

Funny how Altier doesn't get interesting as a character until a game he doesn't have a single speaking line in.

For some reason, Destructoid's stick in the mud mentality seems to be rubbing off on people I know and is therefore now starting to bother me. One of my friends was super enthused for Heavy Rain until he saw it get shit on by Destructoid.

which is good because Sterling was right about Heavy Rain. That shit is a 7 at best. Shitty writing is all the more inexcusable when a game claims that it is more about its story than gameplay and downsizes the latter in order to emphasize the former.

So, has anyone played the pc version?

I will be buying it very muchly if the reports i'm hearing of the m+kb controls being crap are untrue.

As for the next one: Based on no information at all I was expecting it to be modern day, maybe with Desmond discovering his awesome assassin powers.

I can't get enough of that DRM stuff. It manages RIGHTS, so it must be good.

In truth it doesn't bother me particularly, I play games too much anyway so if I can't play because the servers are down it's not the end of the world, and according to this, I wont lose much progress if they go down while playing. Plus the game is supposedly really good, I loved the first one and £25 isn't too expensive.

The only DRM that bothered me was for GTAIV because it took way too long to sort out initially.

I love the DRM on my 360.

Do you have the game? Yes? Have fun! No? Go screw yourself.

    Nice and simple.
It's supposed to have multiplayer, be about Etzio, and they aren't just calling it "AC3."

Where did that come from? As fun as this one has been, I'd really like it to be in another time and place.

Early Victorian England would be my personal choice

Compare to the PC world, the Xbox is like a virgin.

Piracy on Xbox exist, but it's not as easy as doing it on PC and most of the time actually cost money to mod your console, comes with huge disadvantages (can't play online, can't download DLC, etc) and because of this, not even close to be as widespread than one PC.

Except it's totally possible to do all this with a modchip nowadays. It'll probably cost you a lot, but I've seen it. Wouldn't surprise me if they were upgradeable as well to dodge whatever systems MS use to find modded consoles.

Do not underestimate the effort these dudes are willing to pour into piracy.
