I dunno if they really raised it or not. The AH has very slightly decreased in price, but it's pretty similar in terms of overall availability as it was before via that route. For getting it as a drop, noone I have actually talked to (guildies, puggies, or otherwise) has seen it drop since the first day before they nerfed the drop rate.
If anything helps the cost, it'll probably be people getting alternatives from ICC10/25, which drives the demand down.

I need it as the items I can roll on in raids will basically have to have mp5 or them, as I am classified as "healer main"
Thus I need the hilt weapon for a crit and haste alternative.
That being said, I have run an average of 2-4 runs of Forge and pit per day. So far I saw 2 hilts drop the first day (and we ran all 3, so that was apparently BAD luck) then I saw 1 drop before the apparent increase. The DAY it increased I saw 2 hilts, one on each of my chars, in a total of 4 runs for the day. Thats it. I think total I have done over 30 runs I guess? I got one for random heroic after a lock on the other two.
Needless to say drop is shit. The fact you can choose what you want is very much better than most raid options imo. I know you could get better in 25 but I wouldnt say ICC 25 is available to many people.
I didn't see it drop the first day either. Some guildies did see it drop though, and one group saw it drop twice in their first run through the 3 instances.

I couldn't see it drop the first day, because the Cyclone 5-man servers were completely fucked pretty much the entire day of the patch. You could sometimes get into a raid, but even that went down after a while.
By the time I could get in the next day and actually run things, they'd already lowered it.
Thus far I've never seen the hilt drop, however, I have seen quite a few of the BoP epics drop in the new 5-mans, including the same fucking rogue dagger twice in the same run yesterday.
I don't really see how something you'll potentially never get no matter how many heroics you run, or you'll only get by spending a shitload of gold can be construed as welfare gear.
Anything you can get outside of raiding is considered welfare. Only raiders get real gear. Or something.
Boy do I love welfare gear.
That weapon is kind of a special case, considering it outclasses a lot of hard mode quality weapons from 25 man Trial.
So, it's a special case because it outclasses previous tier gear?
When little more than three weeks ago only a sliver of the population had access to something that good, it's understandable that people will be a little miffed at a non-raid weapon being better then theirs.
Naturally that sentiment won't last once Icecrown opens up a little more.

Ooh, 25 man trial. It's not like that was exactly elite content. Hell, look at all the people who say they've done it on PUGs on their server. I'd say the power of the hilt weapons fits right in line with the "WotLK raid accessibility" design.
Anyway, welcome to gearflation? The weapons that drop more commonly in the ICC5 heroics are as good or better than U25 weapons. And the cakewalk ICC5 regulars drop weapons almost as good as the best from Naxx25!
Recount isn't good just for looking at the big DPS numbers, by the way. It's a powerful tool for analyzing what's going wrong and what's going right. As this related to PUGs, it's actually very simple to check out someone doing subpar DPS and maybe half the time there will be something obviously screwed up in their rotation because some skill is doing way too much or little of their damage, or not present, or present when it shouldn't be. While most people, myself included, are loath to actually try to help someone by pointing this out, my GM does it fairly often and she has enough knowledge to make it pretty good advice on the whole. Unfortunately, the average internet person's reaction to constructive criticism is to treat it as an insult to one's mother and penis size, so it doesn't usually end up going well. But the people who aren't d-bags get some good advice and get better at the game, and that's worth it. Probably.
It also has quite a few uses for less trivial content like finding out who stood in what fire and all that, but that's not that useful in 5-mans. There's also the 'look how fast you died, don't complain about no heals' report which is a favorite of the same GM (who is usually a healer of some description).
The primary use, however, is definitely analyzing your own damage and figuring out how best to improve it.
I have seen 2 hilts, one on the first day and the one I picked up today. I don't know what to do with it. I could give it to my warrior, but he is vastly under geared, and a tank.

I wasn't trying to start a big argument over it; just stating why some people take issue with it.

Well, then you weren't very clear in the message, since all you have to say is "some people take issue with it because they are whiny bitches with entitlement issues."

I didn't say that because I think there is some validity to both sides.
Frankly I don't understand what need someone would have for a weapon of that quality if they don't intend to tackle more difficult content than the daily heroic dungeon, but if it makes the game more fun for them, have at it.
I love Recount. I'll never give DPS shit for their DPS in a heroic, unless it's something like heroic HoR. Sorry Mr. Warlock, 1.1k dps is really not ok for there. Maybe if the rest of our dps wasn't hovering around 2k, but it's just too much damage to not be burning through mobs faster than that.
I also love looking at the death meters, because they give you a pretty good indication of what went wrong.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't outclass Hardmode ToC25.

The other day I was in a gun'drak PUG where after the Eck fight, one of the dps asked if anyone had meters. I did, and he asked me to whisper him the meters for the fight. I tried, and said, sorry bro, recount doesn't seem to be able to whisper cross server yet. So he asked me to link it in party. After a moment's hesitation I did.
Poor guy. He was 3rd on damage done. Stomped by me and the other guy (and I entered the battle about 15 seconds in cause I couldn't find where the tank was.) he only just barely outdamaged the tank.
speaking of this, why the fuck can we whisper cross-server in Battlegrounds yet somehow not in cross-realm 5mans?

WoW's a game about many things, but one of them is Upgrading Your Gear. Having this one BIG upgrade to aspire to makes them feel badass when they get it. I like feeling badass.

You can whisper cross server in 5 mans, but recount doesn't know how to yet. At least not as of that story. I tried putting his name in, putting his name - server thing, and doing whisper target but it said it couldn't find him.

How did you whisper in those 5mans? have you actually tried or are you just assuming you can?
Because a couple days ago I tried repeatedly to do so, both by whispering their name, or going right click -> whisper, and both times I got a message that the player did not exist.
I realized Recount is excellent for Deathbringer Saurfang. Not for DPS, but because the melee say stuff like "But we took almost no damage from the Blood Beasts." And then Recount shows they were the ONLY people to take damage, so they should stop bragging and stop getting hit....

Love good pugs. Just got the 6 minute Arthas achievement in a pug, lowest DPS overall was the tank at 3k. Had a ret pally who put out 6.1k over the whole instance.
S,o, I am faced with a choice, do I make my Gnome Warrior a tank or a dps. IF i make him a DPS I have access to a Battered Hilt. I am sitting at 40 triumphs and being very indecisive.

DPS. Also, go Fury. Gnome with a pair of big two-handers is hilarious.
If you are in with someone from your own realm you can whisper them, otherwise nope.
So today some druid starts spamming /p about how he is like the cookie monster etc.
I got sick of his blathering, so told him to shut up and dps, cos atm I was beating him as the tank.
He calls me an elitist jerk, and apparently tries to kick me. This is H-UP, 7 mins in and we are pulling the guantlet.
Next thing you know I see in /p "Why would we boot an awesome tank for you?" and he quits.
We 4 manned it with 2 mins left on the clock.
This is why I play exclusively with my wife. Shes a tank, Im a healer. We run things
Dont like it?
What are ya gonna do?
We had one rogue that kept wanting to blatantly rip aggro, and then get mad when I prioritized the Paladin over him in healing. He tried to kick me, and then I pointed out the tank was with me.
The other 2 in the group decided to kick him instead.

Non-raiders are only allowed to have iLevel 200 blue weapons.
