Your direct abilities are based on who you pick. It lists their skills in the selection screen.
As for weapons, its all based on what room you are in and you need to unlock doors to get to new rooms with new vending machines. The general consensus is that the Decepticon level is 'easier' than the Autobot level.
I think you meant that the other way around, virtually all "guides" to completing Escalation through wave 15 recommend doing the Broken Hope (Autobot) level.
I've honestly gotten a bit tired of the cover mechanic, mainly because it seems so shoehorned into the levels.
Chest-high walls everywhere!
Exactly. And in those types of games I find myself usually just staying behind one wall, killing everyone close to me and then just moving to the next wall closest to enemies.
I love that it's practical, at least in the campaign, to transform into a tank, boost towards a group of enemies, blast the closest one, jump, transform in mid-air, land on and stomp the head of the next one, shotgun another two then axe the last one.
Gears of War is probably my favorite action game of this generation, and I was really hoping WfC would be more like Gears (being on on the Unreal engine and all) than like Quake.
Been having a better time with my Leader after switching out the Magma Frag Launcher and getting the Fusion Cannon, but Jesus Fucking Christ is Disruption a pain in the dick to hit with. I still do not know what the you're supposed to do with that ability. I get hit with it all the time, but I can never seem to hit opponents with it. I hit with the projectile... and nothing happens. I hit the ground hoping the blast does AoE... and nothing happens. I shoot it point blank range when the enemy is right in front of me and nothign seems to happen. I've gotten it to work about twice so far. Is there a video or something where I can see how this fucking ability is supposed to work?
Edit: I apologize, I'm probably raging too hard. Just frustrating when every time I try to use Disruption it just seems to waste a cooldown and then I often times get killed because I wasted time trying to use the ability.
Also, to clarify - there was an update to download. I'm hearing that it may not have been the actual patch itself. I'm not sure where to look for confirmed info. But the status message on the MP lobby screen no longer mentions the patch, so who knows?
dya know what i'd like? instead of gamertags id rather they showed whatever you named your transformer. so instead of xXx L33T D00D xXx or something like that eeveryone would have cool transformer names.
Anyone online who wants to try something with me? If two people in a party have a private match and choose opposing teams (or do deathmatch), is there still XP gain?
Gears of Wars style, where you press a button to actively slam yourself against a wall or barrier and then lean/peek in various directions to shoot.
I think another part of it is that you see your AI teammates do it as well but anyone player controlled cannot.
I see... kinda like Mass Effect. Yeah, it kinda would have been a nice touch i guess. But you have to admit that the focus here is fast paced action and not creating firing lines behind walls. Would be nice to have the option of course, but you would be raped by flyers and being rammed into oblivion, sniped to death, crushed by melee, etc.

I've still never seen it work or had someone concretely explain how to use it. Or seen video of how to aim it. I don't like the other abilities as much, but they're better than absolutely nothing.

I've been continuing to play with it. As far as I can tell, you need to be very accurate with it and the only way to really get it to work somewhat consistently is to use it at near pointblank range. I'm still a bit meh on the ability, as it's primarily for shock value and stopping Whirlwind so having to pull a rabbit out of my ass to hit is a bit of a turn off, but I am at least hitting with it more now.
Also: The patch is out. The XP loss from Host Dropping has been fixed. Confirmed this after I played Scout for the first time (in the retail version) and had the host rage quit. I retained my experience and made it to level 2.

I can't find the patch for download anywhere. Of course, I'm still getting my ass kicked by Hard mode in the campaign. Do I have to log in and then play online to get it?

Thing is, whoever has a username like that would probably use something equally mindnumbing for their Transformer too.

Gah, stupid work cutting into my Transformer time. I've been playing mostly Team Deathmatch and Conquest, but I would love to take a whack at Escalation.
Did anyone else have the experience that the Solider and Leader were safe and cuddly places to learn the game mechanics, only to branch out into the sneakiness of the Scout and Scientist? I'm really enjoying the different play styles. But I have been curious what people are using as their skill and perks builds. Things like a Scout with Surprise Attack and Ghost seem obvious, but is the extended stealth time better than the speed you get from Leg Servos? I like to hear about what seems to be working well for people and what are some quirky ways to play the battlefield.

Dang, they should have handled it like Mark Target. Unless you hit something, it doesn't trigger the cooldown.
I'm really, really glad they didn't do it this way. Mark Target doesn't actually cause damage, it simply boosts damage and marks the target for you and your team. If Disruption didn't fire unless it was going to hit, then Scientists would be constantly screwed since people could just spam the fire button until they hit the jet. But when you land the hit, it's great. I can't help but think Mark Target should activate even if you miss as well; the damage boost is pretty significant and there's pretty much zero downside to spamming the attack.
Also, why did nobody tell me Power Struggle can give you something like 3-4 times the XP of a regular team deathmatch? I came away from one match as Scout with 7000+ XP and generally get at least 3-4 thousand regardless of class.
And guess what the most horrible thing in the game is. Go ahead, guess. You'll be wrong, but guess anyway. It's actually a Soldier with an overshield stealing a nucleon shock cannon and then hitting the Ammo Matrix kill streak. The thing only had five shots in it but I killed at least eight enemies. I say "at least" because the area in front of me was just a constant massive explosion and I couldn't really see what I was hitting. The best part was that I stole it from another Soldier after his team of Scientists jetted off and left him exposed. Managed to bring him down through the clever use of a platform blocking his LOS; I imagine his team was far, far beyond pissed for him losing the thing and then get ritualistically raped for the clever idea. In the end, the enemy managed to get too close and I blew myself up. I have no regrets.

My game froze like three times tonight during multiplayer. Had to reset the whole system...
I hope it's not my PS3

Pretty sure it's just the game. I've got a 360 less than two months old and had a couple lockups in one night as well. Haven't had any for a while, though.
Posts
it is an ok game.
escalation is kinda.... i dont know
this whole third person no-cover grabbing shooter business is kinda akward
Man FUCK cover
I'm SICK OF IT

No cover? There is lots of cover, even deployable shield walls. There is surely no crouching but you can transform.
Well I believe he was referring to an actual cover system, which is all the rage in third person shooters these days.

It's getting kind of stale.
Who needs cover when you're a giant robot.
Yes.

When does this start from?
Just wondering if they use the crazy Valve weekend of Thursday to Sunday or whatever.

Power. Struggle.
EMP Shotgun + Shockwave + Sentry Gun + Heal Grenades + the gift of flight = god mode.
