Just went sailing for the first time. Managed to find the 6 -> 8 movement upgrade and get my ship wiped out a couple of times. Interesting. I definitely don't know what I'm doing.
And I just had my first 1000 en farming run. Woo!! Went on an armor and forging shopping spree. Anyone figured out forging? Is there any reason not to put a volt affinity on my arbalist's crossbow? (And does it do what I think it does - add the volt type to the crossbow's damage?)

The first stratum boss completely ruined me. Time to grind. It looks like there are a bunch of conditional drops I have yet to get, so it might be time to level my Zodiac again as well.

Did you do the Fish Extermination quest? If you win, it gives you five Amritas, which were absolutely critical for me when I fought him, and I don't think you can buy 'em yet in the first Stratum.
Monk has blood replenish (or w.e. it's called) gives TP back when someone dies. At level 3 this is 6 tp.
Ninja can make a clone that enemies are inclined to kill.
When this clone dies monk gets TP back.
Prince has passive regen (i have 18hp per turn), when he buffs he heals, and when the buffs wear he gets TP back.
Eventually I can have him dispel buffs to replenish each party member's TP.
I should be able to infi TP and heal.
(Also the ninja's knife moves and the arba's skills allow my B to use his chase pierce on multiple enemies.)

Whoa wait, that shit works when temp-party characters die?! THIS IS VALUABLE INFORMATION.

Now I want to see if dismissing beasts procs the blood return too.
Also just found out that the Wildling dying makes the summoned beast fuck off. Cost me an extremely close FOE fight.
Damn damn damn...So my starting group has been H / G / P / M / Z so far, and I really really have no place for the Monk. Not having direct heals at lvl 1 made me nervous, and his Line heal isn't so bad, but damn if the Prince doesn't cover all heal needs except emergencies (such as the OMFG new fight on a new floor or F.O.E. situation). I feel...wrong, not having a direct healer, but I can't help but want some good back row DPS. And my Monk's build is all over the place right now. I think I'll replace him with the Arbalist.
I should really bump up that "Heal when casting a buff" on my Prince. I get shitloads of healing done when he's at full health but if he gets hit once, unless I have a spare medica lying around I pretty much have zero healing.
God fucking damn it, I hate you, you stupid whale. I lucked out on this battle because he was too busy using Ocean Rave on my leg bound frontline, who all happen to be very good tanks and not busy using Great Melody spam and putting my whole party to sleep and then use Ocean Rave to kill everyone.

Still, I unlocked sub-classes so woo!
WHITE WHALE, HOLY GRAIL
Last night I discovered something ridiculous. I forget where I found it, but I got a script for a two-man Limit attack that deals fire damage to random targets for 3-5 hits. Not all that exciting, right? Except it seems to be affected by the stats and abilities of the one initiating it. When my Zodiac casts it: the limit attack gets +25% damage from Ether mastery, +50% from Singularity when applicable, +some significant amount from Charge Tactic used by two other party members, and +200% damage from Etheric Charge. And since this Limit activates at the end of the combat round, you can use Etheric Charge that very same round and have it affect the Limit. End result? I'm currently on B9F, and this combination can curbstomp anything that's weak to fire on the first turn - including the floor's 3,000-odd HP FOE that absolutely ruins my day otherwise. It feels almost as broken as EO2's Force skills.
For a numbers comparison: my Gladiator hits this FOE with a normal attack for 60-90, an unboosted Fire Star hits for roughly 200, and this limit combo deals over 800 damage 3-5 times.
You remind me of how I somehow managed to kill a muckdile pretty easily, but got killed while traversing that floor. Then it took me a few hours to encounter another muckdile, and another few more to find one that was willing to die...
So how do the Chasers work for the Buc? Are they castable, and then for the rest of the battle (or 3 turns, etc) it goes off if you use that attack type / ele effect?

I noticed the same thing with Charge Tactics and the Princess's heal on buff skill. When I have my Princess use it, it heals my entire group a little bit as well, which is pretty nice since typically her buffs are only one line.
My copy came in today from Amazon (I'm overly cheap and went for free shipping instead of the release day shipping), so I can actually start looking at the thread again. Glee!
Re the first floor sprouts:
I had two farmers in the party and one of them slapped it away and stomped on it, assuring us some things just are not safe to eat.
I'm gonna have to rest my Gladiator/Buccaneer into something else, because Wild Swings doesn't seem to be working with gun skills and he's currently some sort of frontline gunslinging abomination. Currently level 8 Wild Swings and I haven't seen a single proc from Quick Draw out of at least fifty uses.

Congrats Pureauthor. I still haven't beaten the game yet!
For EO3,
I've gotten as far as partially exploring B5F. I like that pokemon are an enemy on this floor. I also liked the fight with Narmer or whatever the fuck it was from the 1st Stratum. And by like I mean FUCK YOOOOU. The first time I fought him, I was just killed. The second time I fought him, he ran away and I was like "WHAT" and gave chase, fought an extra FOE, and caught up with Narmer. Then I managed to miss him 2 times when he went under mud, and he earthquaked me to death. The third time though was sweet, easy success (Arbalist elemental abilities hitting all targets is fucking great).
Gonna pick this up tomorrow, anything I should know going in? I haven't fiddled with EO1/2 beyond the first floor or two, could snag them out of storage as well.
Artbook lampshades this - there's a comic with the Hoplite excitedly talking about all the new changes like Sea Quests and new classes, and then a Monk mumbles 'Maybe we can get them to stop calling this ETrian Odyssey 1.5'
Then the Ninja pipes up and wonders if the fans are going to start whining about all the changes.
Congrats, Pureauthor! Wish I had the will power to 100% the previous two EO's.

Watch out for Great Lynxes and those green bird monsters in the first few floors. They'll wipe your party out if you give them a chance.

Which mostly consists of hunting down random monsters across the Labyrinth to get them to drop enough material X to make Gear Y to fill up the Codex.
Shouldn't take me too long...

It begins
Make sure you have one Target All spell of the element you're going to chase.
That would explain it; I never got to those skills in EO2 (And never got EO at all :?). Left off at Hellion in Stratum 2.
TOO GOOD.

For EO3,
Why is my Wildling's elephant summons a Plague God when he comes out? I guess Strange Journey and EO do share the same engine...
