"When allies or enemies are below a certain amount of HP, there is a chance to instantly kill them."
At level 5, it's apparently a 60% chance to kill anyone at 15% or below.
Now, this is just me talking, but I know that apart from bosses, my allies spend a lot more time at 15% HP than the enemies do (who tend to go from full to half to dead, more or less).
I wonder if there are a bunch of "When you die, do cool stuff" abilities that make that more fun (like the Shinobi's Flesh Bullet - when you die, do a lot of fire damage to the guy what killed ya).
God I'm trying to avoid spoilers for this game but my friends in the scene keep leaking shit to me.
In regards to the level cap:
Instead of having to retire 30 times after hitting the new +1 cap each time you get 10 extra levels for each of the three elemental dragon uber bosses you beat, up to the the total of 99. So base is still 70, beat one and you can level to 80, two equals 90, and all three equals 99.

That is an extremely better way to go about it, thank God. And it's like a direct reward for all that too.
This will make judging how many straight squares I should plot before plotting the corner in front of me so much easier.

Thankfully it's far off enough, and with no information aside from the fact it's coming, that it's easy to put out of mind and not get hyped over. Especially since we have part 3 on the way anyhow!
That is probably the best battle theme of the series, but I don't really like that remix.

OH MY FUCKING GOD THAT SOUNDS GLORIOUS.
Like I knew what the song sounded like before but holy crap that's like the best arrangement ever.
Also, Al Baron, it's not a remix - it's an arrangement. It's what the game composer wants the music to be like if it wasn't in any way restricted to the DS sound format. Which, on that note, the 3DS should have an enhanced sound system (not that the DS is bad mind you). Which means better music when the Etrian Odyssey for it comes out. WOO!
God, Etrian Odyssey 3 on September 10? I need to step it up with 2, I'm still at 15F and I want to have beaten this one when 3 hits!
It's pretty hard to advance, though. The battle against Artelind and her gunner was pretty tough. I'm kind of scared of what that Ice Princess or whatever boss in this floor is going to do to me... Anyone have any tips for increasing a Beast's survivability? It seems that Preen/Wildwall doesn't woork half the tim, because the enemy will use physical abilities instead of simple attacks, which means Wildwall does nothing...
The main problem with using a Beast is that the abilities of theirs that take damage for other party members are based on the defence of the person you are defending, not the Beast's. It's pretty shit.

Yeah, I kind of noticed. But when I'm using a Medic, a Hexer, and a Ronin, I really, really need a Tank - if nothing else, it allows me to simply spam Cure 2 on the Beast every turn, knowing that almost every hit will go to it anyway. But I need it to survive at least a bit more. I wonder if simply going for max HP Up would help...
If you happen to feel like importing it, you can get it from quiteafew sites. Not sure about the reliability of some of them, but there are options available for you, if it never comes to the US.

Man the only time stuff like that makes it to the states is if it's from some bigass publisher / developer. Square is more or less the only RPG maker overseas I can see selling soundtracks in the states.
Still it's nice to see import options available!

Dude. No kidding. I was nabbing up Hong Kong knock-off CDs for years before they put the kibosh on that market. Now I have to go to these sites and hope I get the right stuff.
Seriously, this thing is beatable? Whenever it randomly decides to do Embrace, half my team at least ends up dead - and if I don't manage to land an arm bind fast, that Soul multiattack can be much the same. It seems to have enough defense to take my Landsknecht and Ronin's hits plenty well, too. Are there any "tricks" to this thing?
If I remember correctly, you have to bind the head for the cry soul attack, and I think that disables a bunch of her other attacks as well. for some reason tentacles count as head instead of arms or legs.

Hey I'm restarting on Etrian 1, Going with a Landsknecht, Dark Hunter, Survivalist, Medic, Troubadour party. Sound doable for the first few strata until I swap in a Hexer?
A bit damage-light for my tastes, although actually I don't really know what Dark Hunters' damage is like since I never manage to try one long enough to pump up their skills much.
I basically always roll with a melee damage class, an alchemist and a survivalist specialized in apollon'ing some bitches.

My plan is to turn my Troubadour into a Bravery + Elemental buff master. To make up for the extra damage. Go whips with the Dark Hunter for the binds. Basically, I'm being cheap. :P Later on down the road I'm going to use the Dark Hunter + Hexer to deal the pain. I plan on over leveling to compensate. Gonna make those first few FOEs hard though.

it took me way too long to figure that out.
...motherFUCK. My Hexer has Bind arms and legs, I didn't put points in bind head yet, because I was busy leveling Poison and Fear/Suicide for random encounters/FOEs respectively. I don't have a way to bind Head at all. Time for reroll and infinite grinding for the five lost levels? Probably in the Ronin as well, because right now with her I went for the overhead tree, you know, the one with the fire attacks, so my Volt department is also lacking.

Sounds more than doable for EO1.
DH isn't the best, and it might take some time for it to get going.
As long as you do not ignore the fact that you need to be able to deal damage and to receive (aka Heal) damage, you can put together almost any party that will be able to carry you through the main game of EO1 and EO2.
I'm swinging back into RPG mode due to DQIX, so I'm resuming my EO2 game, where I left off navigating the pitfalls between L17 and L18; I'm currently trying to remind myself how all of the skills and such work. :P I have a PR / SGM party right now, and part of me wonders if I should swap out the S for someone with a little more oomph, but I also love having her with a full Patrol skill and getting all sorts of Preemptive attacks due to Ambush. Would a Hexer be a worthwhile investment if I don't really plan on cheesing Revenge? Or should I work on getting a Dark Hunter in the front lines for some crazy binding and Climaxing action?
So, is there a wrong way to allocate my stats in EO2?
I'm always worried I'm not using them where I should.
I didn't see anyone respond to this; due to the fairly lenient penalty for Resting (only 5 levels lost, which isn't all that much once you get up to the higher Strata), you can pretty much toy around with builds as much as you'd like. I'm not really a min-maxer by trade, though, so I suppose putting stray points into non-essential skills doesn't bug me as much as other people.
Hexer without revenge is still on the top tier of classes. Poison works, accurate bindings work, some of their other overlooked spells are generally great debuffs.
The only wrong use of stats is to put tec into anything that's not an Alchemist (Maybe some medics, maybe) or to put STR into said Alchemist, Non combat medic, Hexer.
Just about everything else is fair game. Might not be the best, but it will work.

New team handled their first FOE pretty well. Ate up my reserves since I don't have my Troublador/Medic to the point where healing is cost effective yet. But still. Nice to know this team can down one.
Man, I got raped so hard by a FOE when I first encountered one. Maybe I should sit around and level up for a bit.
Well, keep in mind I've been abusing the early gather points by making 5 Chopper Survivalists and getting mad money for gear and meds. But my team was around level 7 when I took down my first FOE. Still can't survive more then 1 or 2 at most but still, mad exp and sometimes a good drop for the shop. I'm hunting horns right now, but the damn things arn't dropping.
*sigh* I foolishly wasted 1 point on my Combat Survivalist for chopping. I know I can 'fix' that by resting at lvl 30, but bwaaa!
Survivalists are the one class with points to spare in EO1.
I still prefer the 3-4 gathering specialists run for death approach. Get in, get the resource, get out.

What's happening now?
Enemies do an ass-ton of damage. FOEs are unbeatable at this point.
