Hey guys,
I have a laptop that's about 3 years old but still pretty powerful. Core 2 Duo E7300, 2 gigs DDR2 ram. Fairly nice.
Problem is that the HDD is small and I want to load it up with lots of crap, from media to (older) games, to all of my school and office apps and everything else.
it's a dell XPS M1210.
So I guess my questions are:
1. What is the best kind of laptop hard drive I should get to replace the current one? Is there a certain brand, certain speed, certain type recommended for laptops? Obviously it needs to be 2.5 instead of 3.5 inch. But what should I get? I want at least 250 gigs.
2. Is there any potential problem I might face in replacing a laptop hard drive? or any difficulty? I assume I only need to unscrew the 4 bottom side screws and pull the drive out the side of the thing, then stick the new one in its place, push it back in, and screw the screws back on. Am I missing anything? Is it that easy? I also assume it will boot from CDROM but if not I can set that in the BIOS, and install Windows from there onto the new drive.
I really just want to make sure I get a quality HDD that is not likely to break or fail or crash in the next 3 years.

2. Should be pretty simple. You've got all the steps covered.
The drive in there right now is a Seagate Momentus 7200.2, 80 gb SATA 7200 rpm. I guess having another 7200 rpm drive won't be any worse.
I think the laptop has a BIOS option to run HDD in some kind of low power or low speed mode to keep vibration and noise level down but I could be wrong. Do all laptop HDDs support such a thing (if i'm not just making this up that is)?
