Don't forget that Microsoft went through the banhammering during this NPD month, right before the release of MW2. That might have helped the 360 sales a little bit. I wouldn't say it's the main cause, but I wouldn't be surprised if that had a little something to do with it.
but all those poor innocent pirates were so harmed by M$'s cruel banning of them that they're not going to stand for it! They're going to buy PS3s and teach M$ that they can't just treat them like that!

I think the '$199 Arcade with a $100 gift card' at Amazon and Walmart may have helped some.

Its hard to place what the up to a million banned 360 owners actually did.
1) A lot of them threatened to go PS3
2) A lot of them arent going to pay for games anyway and probably didnt rebuy
3) Some of them obviously did rebuy.
However, I would submit to you that converting a pirate to a non-pirate by any means is very hard to do and not significant.
Wow - I don't know what was expected, but I'm worried those Dragon Age numbers are low.
I mean, it is a primarily PC game...Who am I kidding? It's probably that 'tactical RPGs' just aren't what people want anymore. I'm sure ME2 will do well though.
Don't count Dragon Age out just yet. 362k on 360, and probably at least a semi-decent showing on the PC and hopefully PS3. We won't get any digital distro numbers unfortunately.
362k on 360.. hm. Hopefully it pulls at least 100k on the PS3 and another 100k on the PC. I dunno. I think they'll be okay in the long run.
What price drops do for you has always been very limited. It takes the current trend and just boosts it for a few months. After that it, its just slowing the decline.
I guess I overestimated how much the PS3 and 360 were considered to be substitute goods for each other. Normally I'd have bet with the long term sales momentum but I thought that with so many games being on both consoles that the "extras" would give the PS3 a long term advantage over the 360.

The 360 beating the PS3 is going to be a hard blow to some Sony fans who thought the PS3 had done leaps and bounds past the 360 the last month, some even thought it had a chance to touch on the Wii if not beat it but those people were daring to believe too much. The 360 beating the PS3 shows that MS is still doing much right even if systems getting the RROD might helped them a bit more than some of us would like.
And damn the PSP sales are just...horrid, when you look at the capabilities of the PSP and the DS and how much a difference they are in sales as well it just blows the mind.
"While this year's top-selling item bested last year's by 283%, it couldn't make up for softness elsewhere. The top 50 games this year sold 5% less units than did the top 50 last year."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has achieved the top spot for first-month sales of any game at the title level," says Anita Frazier, NPD analyst. "Halo 3 previously held the spot when it sold 3.3 million units in September '07 in 12 days at retail. MW2 bested Halo 3's daily sales rate by 16% in its 19 days at retail in November.""

The sales are probably similar in Europe so it should sell at least a million.
The largest entertainment launch of the year wasn’t enough to push video game sales into positive territory in November, raising concerns about the overall health of the industry.
Despite blockbuster numbers for “Modern Warfare 2,” video game sales remained in negative year-over-year territory in November, down 3.1 percent compared to 2008, according to The NPD Group, which tracks video game sales. Game sales totaled $1.4 billion — with more than 25 percent of that coming from “MW2”.
The advance was notably lower than analysts had predicted. (Wall Street consensus had called for a 2 percent increase, though some analysts were looking for a jump as large as 7 percent.)
Overall, the videogame industry is tracking 12 percent behind the 2008 numbers. Publishers, analysts and investors had hoped to end the year with just single percentage digit declines, but most acknowledge that seems impossible now.
“As 2009 draws to an end, it is clear that it will end as a horrible year for video game publishers,” said Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities, who adds he expects December will once again slide into negative territory.
Others wonder if the strong of bad sales this year will finally convince publishers to lower the prices of mid-level games down from the current $60.
“Really good titles are selling — and they’re selling at premium prices, but consumers aren’t willing to pay $59 for second tier content,” says Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets. “I think that’s why there’s a concern for next year. What’s the right price for titles moving forward? ‘Halo Reach’ will get $59, sure, but what about games below that? I think you’ll start to see prices decay. The NPD data, along with the discounts we’ve seen at retail this holiday season, will push that issue to the front burner.”
"While this year's top-selling item bested last year's by 283%, it couldn't make up for softness elsewhere. The top 50 games this year sold 5% less units than did the top 50 last year."
This is even with the new Call of Duty outselling the last one by a decent amount. DAMN.

We just need to start having other third party companies complain about how hard it is to compete with them abloo abloo.
PS3 still has another month to outsell Xbox, right?!
RIGHT?!
PS3 4 lyfe, etc. etc. But yeah, I mean, Sony can't do anything else but wait. It might be too hard for them to shake the stigma of "pricey", "no games", and other things that might not be true anymore.

None of the consoles are going to be able to shake their stigmas until the next generation, whenever that is.
Assassin’s Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, and Dragon Age: Origins rounded out 360 versions on the NPD top ten and it was the company’s “best-ever November for game sales, reaching $514 million in total sales”.
Consumers also spent a whopping $838 million on 360 hardware, software and accessories, adding to the stellar month for Microsoft.
The 360 outsold the PS3?! You've got to be shitting me.

I'd avoid the rest of the GAF thread if I were you. It's 200 posts making fun of Reggie for claiming that NSMBWii would be #1 this month, 200 posts saying "LEARN TO READ, DOOFUS," and 200 posts saying that Microsoft banned consoles just so they could sell more units this month.
And one poor newbie who got banned within 5 minutes of posting a number from VGChartz.

Fuck... I can't believe it sold that many...
Like, I was hoping for sub 100k total.
I was honestly expecting half that number. I guess it shows that the TH brand still pushes a few units.

I'm curious as to how the $120 non GH/RB compare. And the fact that one game, DJ Hero was good, and Ride was shit.
