I worked 40 hours in two and a half days this week just to get christmas off.
The things I do for family togetherness.
Hah. They don't even really want me here.
In other news, I ordered a bunch of books and have received all but two of them (those books being Bridgeman's complete guide and the vegan cookbook Kochi showed me)
I'm compiling some reference photos now so I'll have something to do at work. Besides work.
I'm tired of the Narutos and the Kurosakis and the Gokus. Tired of high school girls and shinigami and superpowerful samurai.
I know there's some good stuff out there, but it's like our own music industry. It's so inundated with bullshit that finding the goods is a lot of effort.
I'd love to see some decent science fiction stuff. Something that examines the humanity of artificial life or delves into the civil rights struggle that will inevitably ensue there. Or the problem with jobs being given to artificial people.
Not giant robots flying around space in cool poses.

Planets, Ghost in the Shell, or my favorite EDEN: Its an endless world (the subtitle is what Dark Horse gave it when it was printed over here)
Eden is absolutely brilliant; Read the first two volumes and see what you think (the first volume is not much like the rest of it but its necessary to the story)

Battle Angel Alita. It's gorgeous and it's also funny and pretty poignant at times. Read it.
In semi-hemi-demi-related news, I saw Avatar yesterday. It was fucking amazing.

You you read Battle Angel Alita, the guy who created it wasn't happy with how the original ended so he re-made the manga.
I never read the remake so I don't know if its good or not.
He didn't re-make it, he just retconned the original ending away and did a continuation called Battle Angel Alita: Last Order.
He had to end the original early because he got hella sick. Then he did a three-volume comic called Aqua Knight which is completely different from BAA in all aspects other than excellence, and then he put that on hiatus to do Last Order, which is also excellent, if slower than the original series due to a significantly higher number of sub-plots and stuff.
So basically Last Order, the continuation, is still really good. The art is certainly better, though the original already had gorgeous art. It also has transgendered robot clones and giant cyborg space karatekas. Reeeeaaaaad iiiiiiiiit.

Wait, he just ret-conned it? Huh, the more you know.
Yeah, Last Order takes off more or less directly after
she gets blown up in the original series. It starts with Desty Nova putting her brain back together and inserting it into the fancy Imaginos body he built/grew for her with his nanomachines.
It was totally amazing in the theater with the 3d, but I get the feeling when I watch it again a few years down the line on my standard def 26" tv on regular-ass DVD, I'm going to be like, "what is this?" on a lot of it, and then just fast forward to robot battles, because I like robot battles.

Oh, I thought you were saying that Stand Alone Complex was better than the movie.
But Sonic, it's true!
I liked the two stand alone complexes more than the movies, but it's easier to develop character and story over 24 or whatever episodes. The second movie is amazing visually.
I asked for the D&D 4e starter kit for christmas, now I have the box set! This was not expected. I've never played D&D before, I'm not even sure if I like it yet. What do I do, I don't know if I should keep it or subtly find a way to return it. (I'm also feeling pretty guilty since it costs so damn much...)
With a point and shoot (or maybe any camera) if I am in a dim or dark environment, how do i take a picture of any quality. Auto comes out too dark, and choosing something like nightshot blurs whenever anyone moves in the slightest. Or it'll say my hand is shaking, no matter how long I try to stay steady. What setting should I be trying to adjust?
The setting on your pathetic dickbeater that can't hold a camera still for more than five seconds.
There will be far less beating of my dick now that you have a job that pays cash money. Looks like i'm going to have to find someone else willing to do the work for a sleeve of Ritz, a 3 month old AutoTrader magazine, and a shirt with the image of a pack of wolves howling at the moon.

Oh, and merry christmas everyone.
If you have a good group of friends, D&D is a load of fun to play... but you'll really want someone who's experienced to be the DM for you guys. He should probably have his own books too so you won't have to open anything just yet.
Find a local store. They usually are really friendly to new players, and often have introductory nights. Usually the store owner or an employee will help you with your initial set up of a character, or you can pm me and i can help guide you through it.
There is something called RPGA, which basically allows anyone just starting out to get involved in any game with any group of people and play for a session. 1 session = one complete encounter.
Bring a snack and you'll be automatically be accepted even by the hardcore players.

Like those things are exclusive.

At least, I thought they were.
yeah, the manga came first. Everything else was a spinoff.

I've wanted to do that.
