The ending was awesome. The very very end movie scared the fuck out of me. And confused me a little. But I guess that was the point. The final boss battle was awesome. I love the touches when it would go seamlessly to a cutscene and stuff (for little things like his gun dropping)
Now Im looking into Extraction (although - Im being nitpicky! - the first thing I did when beating it was click the spoilers for the OP, and the VERY FIRST spoiler contains one for Dead Space AND Extraction...so maybe separate those?)

I was just thinking about how giving Issac a voice is very, very risky in Dead Space 2.
So he's supposed to be insane now, which is awesome and I wholeheartedly agree with. Not psychopath insane - just deeply, deeply troubled. That is such a hard voice to pull off.
If they give him some macho, Marus Fenix, Nathan Drake style voice, I will never believe he's a little bit off. If he's barking out commands to others because he's a leader now, and sounds like that, I would never buy for a second that he doesn't have his shit together.
If Im supposed to question Issac's sanity, I need to hear that. I need to be playing as Issac and have that feeling that HE is even aware that he's not all there. His log after the big reveal in the first game showed he questioned his own sanity, so he's fully aware that he may not be the best person to lead an attack squad - but he's the ONLY person who can.
So I started thinking of who's done good insane voices for this kind of thing, and I havent come up with anyone. Mark Hammil/Heath Ledger joker style insane has way too much maliciousness behind it. Issac is TRYING and HOPING he's still holding it together, and the Joker was not. The closest I could think was some kind of Walter Bishop from "Fringe" hybrid. I want to hear Issac sometimes just thinking aloud - figuring things out by trying to talk them through. Because he doesnt trust his brain to just do the job. But even that still doesnt seem quite right.
Its a very hard voice to pull off and if anyone else has any suggestions (not for actual voice actors, just a similar role) I'd love to hear it.
Then I thought about how his first line of dialogue is going to be pretty big. And how when he opens his mouth, all of us are going to be hanging in anticipation for that millisecond to see what comes out.
And then I thought how awesome would it be if he was voiced by Tracy Morgan and no one had any idea until that moment. THATS a man who can play (is?) crazy.

I met Ben Templesmith - illustrator of the Dead Space prequel comics - at a signing earlier in the week. Had him sign Dead Space and DS Extraction covers.
He mentioned EA contacted him again for more Dead Space work recently, so expect more comics to come.

So there's no such thing as a military person with mental/soical problems? Pish posh.

Issac's not a military person though. He was just a repairman who happened to be better at aiming than anyone else on the ship

Ok, so there's no such thing as a person who barks out commands to others because he's a leader and sounds like that who doesn't have mental/social problems? Pish posh.

Also that deep manly voice of command is as rare in the military as it is among normal folk
Having seen Moon, I say, get Sam Rockwell to do Isaac's voice. Not an instantly recognizable voice like Kevin Spacey, so you wouldn't have that distraction. Sounds fairly average and can turn in a good performance without always having someone to react to in the scene. Good qualification for voice acting, I think.
Might help win over fans of the first game who are worried about Isaac Clarke being morphed into a Master Chief type figure.

I kind of like the idea of a group of people being forced to rely on a nutcase because he's pretty much all they've got in the situation. He's like space zombie Captain Ahab
A nice touch would be if he randomly starts blabbering like a detroit street preacher during firefights.
I always regretted buying the tank suit for my Insanity run, it looked cool but that fear generated from being low on health, ammo and space between you and the creepy crawlies is what I love about the game. What's a good looking suit DLC? Astronaut looks good, but I think 30% protection might be too easy.
Actually I might just never upgrade anything and only use the plasma cutter until I get the flamethrower, and then only use that, on insanity, with DLC armor that only gives you like 5% protection

Also my point was more that someone who silently took orders about a zillion things, without ever questioning them, in an attempt to try to
save his girlfriend, who he finds out was DEAD the entire time
wouldn't suddenly take that whole situation and become some Marcus Fenix type personality. If anything it would make him even weirder, quiter and more broken. He obviously wasn't a take charge kind of guy in the first game, so in the 2nd he should be more of a reluctant leader.
Also that footage made me realize this may be the Iron Man game Ive always wanted.

Just finished DS: Extraction. They did a pretty good job of transferring the DS experience to a different platform and completely different genre, although I preferred Isaac's silence and feeling of isolation rather than the team of characters you are generally with in Extraction.
Really though it has just made me more excited for DS2.

I got the package just now myself. Guess the combination of me A. brainchilding and designing one of the advertising campaigns for the first, B. being the reason the HD version of the Twinkle Twinkle trailer was released, and C. Submitting ideas for dismemberment moves in the second game gave them the idea that I was a SUPER FAN. They guessed right. 8-)
Edit: Oh that Destructoid link has it all wrong, it's not a doctor taking care of a patient turning into a Necromorph, it's Issac Clarke's psych evaluation after being rescued.

Wait really? Can you give me a time interval?
If there's a PC version in the works, I am a happy goose.
Aim for the arms/tail first. If it's still alive, go for the legs. Shooting the head gives a surprise, torso does about nothing

Still no idea why people find it frightening, but it's done well, if a little familiar after Doom 3.
