Necros can do pretty much anything, but sometimes a bit slowly if playing untwinked, or nearly untwinked.
Get a Naj's staff, or something else with tele charges (lol, get enigma, n00b, etc etc) for when you want to introduce a nice boss to all your friends at once.
On the other hand, barbs are burly man's men that stab things with pointy and/or sharp pieces of steel.
Rather than spending time looking for a specific unique or making an Enigma, just spawn a nightmare Lut Gholein with the exit next to the mage guy and keep refreshing his inventory until he has a staff of teleport in there. It's pretty easy. Put it on your switch. Once you get enough plus skills your extra minions will even stop popping every time you change your +skills wand and head out, for some reason.
A 4 socket armor filled with p.topaz is way the fuck cheaper and faster to build and practically just as good. If you're really set on making a wealth, though, I'd probably still make the p.topaz armor just to hold you over until you can make the (extremely overpriced) runeword armor.
so, running Win7 x64, got the images from battle.net, installed, the patch failed. uninstalled. installed, patched manually, worked fine. rebooted, not it's telling my that it can't identify the version number.

anyone else had this issue?
guess i just need to run as administrator.
You need to grant write permissions to the folder, that's probably why the patch failed too. This should have occurred without any prompting but I'm not sure what happened in your case.
In any case, just go to C:\program files (x86), right-click Diablo II, properties, Security tab, Edit permissions, pick Users then check Full Control - Allow at the bottom.
Anyone know why the Gull dagger is worth about the same as 2 P Gems on those websites for buying items, yet in trade people want me to give them 40 P Gems? Why would the worth vary so much?
I keep a harmony blade bow on my javazon to zip around with, and also to futilely shoot at lightning immunes for like 1/100th of their health. I've re-rolled it 3 times so far so far with the following ED% out of 200-275: 227, 205, 203.
I always knew absorb was ridiculous in pvm vs Gloams - their lightning is actually in multiple small amounts, which makes some sorb and 95% res repel them easily.
But I wasn't sure about fire, so I went to test it. And thus:
Rising Sun, 60 sorb. Venom Lord, unique pack with Conviction aura. Me, standing in the pack of Venom Lords, healing every time they blow fire - at roughly 0 fire resist. I stood there for about a minute without losing any health. before I got bored and killed them.
edit: I sat in Diablo's pink fire, full blast, and lost about fifty hp. Okay. 20 light sorb, 63 fire sorb, 95 light res and 90 fire res though. And Diablo's fire ring spell healed about 50, too...

Gull is that expensive, it's just that pgems cost a lot more on those websites. People who buy gems pay a premium to get them in quantity.
Hmm, it has been so long since I have played this. I wanted to make sure before I screw it up again in Nightmare.
For the Red Portal by Anya in Act V, does it close if I hit the Waypoint in Nihl's Dungeon? I did that in Normal, and the Portal is gone, so I assumed that is what did it.
Also, anyone have any leads on a Lightsabre? I used to have one on my old account's Conc Barb and I miss it.

I'm pretty sure its getting the way point OR just doing the Nihl quest that removes pindle.
As for a Lightsaber, you should be able to pick one up for a pul. It's a pretty solid weapon, but wont get you through the later stages of hell.
This came up in the ingame chat, and I know it has a tendency to transform into a particularly persistent rumor so I'm going to squash it right now:
There is no point at which %MF begins to reduce the number of uniques that drop. This particular idea seems to spring from the time when pages upon pages were written about how MF worked in 1.07 (where there were indeed MF breakpoints and elaborate bugs that caused 'actual' MF to precipitously drop at certain points), but this was nine years ago and it is most certainly no longer the case.
Since 1.08 %MF has reliably worked along this line: more %MF will make unique, set, and rare drops more likely (holding kill speed constant). There are hard diminishing returns but more is still always better (again, holding your ability to kill things constant).

The Red Portal closes if both of these conditions are true:
(1) you have the Halls of Vaught waypoint
(2) you have completed the Nihlathak quest
Lightsabres are pretty cheap, normally.... not difficult to get. I could try trading for it for a few pgems.
edit: Pul would be overpaying quite dramatically

If you could get it for that please do. I don't know what I could give you for it but I will figure something out. Maybe some ptopazes :P
is there an ingame chat channel that folks use in these parts?
as an aside, there are a ton of come buy shit from our stupid website games on East.
on West i would see like 10 of these games a day. now im seeing hundreds of the fucking things.
also, there are a lot more free games, and a lot less free stuff in said games. o.O
Holy crap, I just snatched a +3 FoH War Scepter in Baal's throne room. No Conviction, but with a guaranteed 5os from Larzuk, how much do you think it's worth this early on ladder?

I still haven't even found a polearm for my sorc, let alone my necro.
Choppychoppychoppychoppy!

I bet you don't
not in bitchland
I have one in hc though.
Seriously.
i've got a level 35 Frenzy barb and he moves so fast it's actually hard to play.

"1 Tal Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Topaz + Normal Body Armor --> Socketed Body Armor of same type "
Does normal quality mean just white? Or only the low level versions? Like, can I socket an exceptional armor as long as it's not magical?
The latter.
It can't be superior, or already socketed either.
Also, I just got a Bartuc's Claw. On the low end of the spectrum (164%ED, 6%LL), what do you guys think this might be worth?

I can't connect, it's just telling me I have no internet connection.

Edit: Reset the router, works now, guess it was a temp ban.
Nope.
I'm pretty sure it requires you to use the cube add socket to normal item recipe.
you need to use the afore mentioned cube recepie on a set of etheral armor. no uniques or magics. just regular ass etheral armor with no sockets.
