You can repair low-quality/cracked/crude items using another cube formula; this has the occasionally useful property of setting the ilvl=1 (which affects the number of sockets possible).
Are edamage% jewels worth anything these days? Picked up a 39%/+13-43 fire damage. Shame about the suffix, but hey.
Also, picked up one of those 'almost there, but falls short' amulets with 19 pdr/8mf. If those two stats had been maxed or close to it I would have been a happy camper.

I'm worried about blocking on my Phoenix Strike assassin. Some guides mention weapon blocking as being problematic, as you'll get block locked. Will the same hold true with a claw/shield setup - does the blocking function in the same way? I never really played much with the charge skills before.
There's no real reason for me to go claw/claw, so claw/shield might be a better option anyway, but if I'll get shafted either way, I'll go dual claw with no weapon block. I can live without a shadow too.
EDIT: Well, claw/claw is obviously nice in that it can reach 2 charges with one 'click', but you can live without that.
I think shield blocking has a shorter animation, maybe. Claw blocking can block some kinds of spells though. I forget which charge of phoenix strike is the bread and butter one.

Be advised that your merc will need 210 strength to equip a non-eth colossus voulge.

Make a singing barb and then figure out how to replace the sound files for barb noises with trolololo
meteor and lightning are pretty standard, you should max out both synergies. With a fast claw like nats you can really throw down a lot of meteors. There are some minor perks to claw/claw, but nothing that can outweight a really good shield - which is often easier to find than a really good secondary claw.
BahamutZERO: Yes, that might be right, about the speed. I think claw blocking is locked at a certain speed and you'd basically have to wear Guardian Angel to boost it. If I go with a shield I'll probably go with a beneficial one and mostly ignore blocking, though.

To be clear, I think it works on exceptional and elite armors, the "normal" means white and non-low or -high quality. Ethereal should also work.
I've got your Lem Ko and P Diamond for when you get back on.

2525 armor with only 160% enhanced defence on the duress...
Edit: for comparison, the 200% normal is 1254 armor.

The defense you can get from doing that is very ridiculous.
I made a Fort for my merc, and it ended up having around 3200 defense.
