So uhhhh, I run two monitors from my graphics card, a crt and a projector.
Usually I unplug the projector when I want to use the crt as my main display.
Upon plugging it back in today, my graphics card has stopped displaying color, except for when I first start up, then color comes back, then goes away again.
S.... suggestions? I checked all my connections they all seem fine.
edit: It has only stoppped displaying color on the crt. so I'm gunna work that angle for awhile.
Years ago, when my video cards were straight up VGA (and even before, in the era of superfancy EGA graphics), I would see very strange (including B&W) color if the vga cable was shorting or if it wouldn't seat correctly for some reason.
Just a thought.

black and white start up logo, color log in screen(and will stay so indefinitely). color for aobut 1 second after logging in, then back to black and white.
So I'm trying to figure out if a setting got messed up. Changing resolutoin and 32/16bit color options doesn't effect it.
edit: Cloning view with my projector as the main results in color returning.
Whats the video out method you're using? VGA? (That's what I think, when I think CRT) Same for both? Whats the graphics card? I assume it has dual-outs?

I have converters for vga-dvi and hdmi-dvi for my crt and projector respectively.
The color stays after cloning view/then getting rid of the projector. I really don't want to do that each time I restart though.
And you've tried the obvious, like swapping ports?
It doesn't sound like a driver/local hardware problem, at first glance.
In case it is though, I'd
a) yank all existing drivers: video card, projector, crt if it somehow has one, anything. When nothing works and you're in 800x600 with no color depth, you will be able (perhaps uniquely in the annals of personal computing) be able to lift your fists in the air and cry in a firm voice: "Victory at last!"
a-1) reboot here, and see if yanking the drivers has changed anything beyond adding suck.
b) pop the case, pop the card out completely, and reseat it. If you have a slot that you can move it to, I'd do that.
c) reboot, using each device by itself in each port, and then each together in both possible configurations, and observe what happens, noting it down in case it becomes necessary to further interrogate you. Note that this is four reboots before you really do anything.
d) download competely new drivers (even if they're the same drivers) from the internet. Install them. What happens?
