What was the pc texture "hack?" The wording on the patch notes sounds like someone made moddable skins and IW got pissed the fuck off.
PC is kinda a mixed bag... The interface to make a party is slick and easy. However once the party is made the chances of it staying together are all sorts of fucked but from what I've heard that little problem is in the consoles too.
Once in a while you might run into someone you think is hacking. It's either that or the average PC gamers can all do a 180 and headshot you instantly.
The matchmaking itself is fucking strange and I can't figure it out. The way I understand it, IWnet puts me in games of higher pings even after it finds lower pinged games for me to play in and not hate myself.
100ms lag is bullshit in a game where the first to see the other person wins and I'm not sure if they use the console "smoothing" trick to make it seem more even or not.
I don't know. pretty much all the PC problems are the same problems on all versions... so it depends on how much rage you still have over no servers
His run was impressive, but I'm more interested in how he was able to get kills without getting shot at than I am that he was actually able to kill them
If you look at the score for that round, the other team was getting demolished. There's a possiblity the video is staged, but more likely it's just that most of the people on the other team didn't know the map well. In those cases you can generally predict where people will be looking, especially if you know where the "action" is happening.
He also got pretty lucky in a few parts, and the video doesn't show his other attempts where he dies to a guy with a shotgun around the corner.

Yeah, that's a pretty good point, I've just found that if I'm moving without cover too much I will inevitably get killed from a distance
Anyone have any good advice on how to play team deathmatch, it's my worst game, I just never know where the heck to go, or what to do
If you Bling the 1887s with Akimbo and FMJ, they're exactly the goddamn same as they were pre-patch. With just Akimbo, they're much worse, but with both, they're still broken.
G fucking G, IW.
Are you saying FMJ gives the 1887 longer range in this patch?
No.
It causes them to be the pre-patch 1887s. The plain Akimbo 1887s are fine, huge hip-spread and shitty range. But if you Bling it, and also use FMJ in conjunction w/ Akimbo, they become the pre-nerf monsters again.
I can vouch for this, I got shot in a building on Invasion... From another building, with akimbo 1887 with FMJ that was like 30-40 feet (slight exaggeration perhaps) ?

Texture hacking is basically an ancient (like the days of Quake 1) hack where you basically swap out character textures for ultra bright neon colours that are much easier to see. The texture hack in this case also removes blood spatter on the screen, and makes foliage transparent.
VAC doesn't do checking for those kinds of altered files, which means it was up to IWnet to do that, and it wasn't. And despite what the patch notes might say, it hasn't been "fixed", because they aren't properly checking the files. The hack's already been updated to allow it to continue to be used.

He did mention towards the beginning that it is necessary to be up against a team of "newbs". I've played against teams that bad before. Like minimum 10-1 ratios on my side, and a glaring 200-30 scoreline in domination.
im constantly amazed that no one else seems to ever use c4 in domination.
I hear ya on that. Always reserve one build that utilizes C4. Place that bad boy on the points and watch people lay right on top of it while capping to give me the satisfaction of knowing I'll blow their torso to shreds.
Usually, you can drop C4 on your closest point and move away from it. Just watch for the other team capping the point then blow 'em to hell.

Yeah, the team he was playing against were total and complete scrubs. 11-9, 5-10, 4-11, 2-10, 2-14, 1-15. Their team was outscored 3:1. Except for the one L70 at 2-14, the average player level for their team was 30. They had 3 at level 20-22. Where is the "challenge" in that?

Because even a bunch of idiots can still shoot you.
I don't care what you think about witch builds, that was f-ing epic to me.
I definitely call bullshit on that one. The fact that he didn't get shot during his first run, in the open, across the bridge, shows the lie. That was staged. There were way too many times when no one was really shooting at him, or they shot and just "missed."
That video of the all knife kills, it's impressive, but what I don't understand is this... How did nobody see him? It's like he was invisible, I'm pretty sure that if you put the controller in my hands I could kill the guys once he saw them, nearly all of them at least were fairly easy knife kills, the problem I have in this game is that I am always spotted and shot at before I have a chance to react
This guy didn't have that problem at all
Is this a case of knowing the maps and anticipating where people will be facing?
My problem with this game is similar to the problem I have with madden: I always feel like I'm missing some obvious game mechanic that will make everything easier
His run was impressive, but I'm more interested in how he was able to get kills without getting shot at than I am that he was actually able to kill them
Requires a few things:
-The other team has to suck. A lot.
-Your team needs to be fairly good, or two many of the other team will be alive and in position at the same time. With enough skill on your team you can keep the other team 'depopulated' so to speak.
-You need to be careful to run just outside their FOV.
-He talks about this a little bit in the video but it's important that you be able to separate yourself from your team. The enemy will pretty reliably be heading towards any dots on their UAV, so if you are standing next to your teammate with an RPD you can expect them to be facing you.
-He also mentions the critical ability to recognize when to run the fuck away. If a guy has you in his sights you will pretty much always lose to him, so evade, find cover, run around the block, come at him from another angle or just call out his position to your team and let them handle it.
That said, that was one of the luckiest games I've ever seen. At least 4 of those kills must have been against someone with cerebral palsy or something because they had him dead to rights.

Do you play witch builds? Derail is surprisingly good for them. I've started off at least 50 games doing exactly what he did in the opening of that round. Not saying it for sure wasn't staged, but that part definitely doesn't prove that it was.
I'd like to try a witch build for fun after I prestige, but it seems like unlocking the tac knife might be a pain in the ass. Is it?
It goes pretty fast if you do it in FFA mode.
Any recommendations on a good handgun to do it with? I'd like to do it before I unlock the Stinger again but it seems like most people use the Magnum which is unlocked around the same time.

Nope. Use this:
either Intervention or Barrett (so you get a ghillie suit and have the option of sniping should the opportunity arise)
USP .45
Semtex
Stun Grenades
Marathon
either Stopping Power or Lightweight
Steady Aim
I did it by playing FFA and CTF for an afternoon the first time through. The key to getting reliable amounts of pistol kills is to sprint up behind people and spam the trigger when you get to close range. Watching my friends try and do it, I see a common mistake is to get behind someone but start shooting from way too far away. Pistols lose damage at very close range, so if they're further than 20ft or so it's in your best interest to just get closer before firing.
Recently I've started using Stopping Power for my pistol builds because it is amazing, but for CTF you'll want Lightweight. SP makes the USP a really good weapon and when you unlock akimbo you'll start cackling like a madman when you blast people in the face.
edit: as for which gun to use I'd go with the USP simply because you have it unlocked from the start. With Stopping Power it has a large enough clip to kill two guys without headshots. The M9 is definitely better but you'll be waiting a while to unlock it.

M9 is good if you got it unlocked. Other than that you can't go wrong with the magnum, if you're a good shot, otherwise you're stuck with the USP.
Desert Eagle is also fantastic, but you have to have that unlocked too.

Plus, at least 3 running scrambler so he'll know where they are, including 2 snipers. One guy AFK most of the game. He runs directly in front of several that don't even turn to look at him. One that gets a window smashed 2 feet behind him and he doesn't even bother to look. One that saw him directly ahead for 2 full seconds at 6 feet away and waited for 1.5 seconds for his teammate to get killed before shooting straight down at the ground and then getting killed. Others that saw him and just sprinted straight at him without firing a shot.

I think you guys might be overestimating how dumb people can be. I've had games that went almost exactly like this. I think my best was something like 40-3 in a CTF?
So does anyone have a more definitive answer as to what the patch fixed? And how can the 1887's still be broken after a patch? Really?!
I don't think they're as bad. Range is still drastically reduced and FMJ only adds a VERY MINOR amount of damage. No range.
I tried them a few days ago, not sure if the patch was applied for the pc or not but the range of the 1887s felt shorter than usual and I was not getting hits on people I was sure was in range for the pre-nerf version but when I added fmjs those "problems" seemed to clear up. It might just have been my imagination but it is possible that the 1887s become a bit bugged with fmj.
Since I have prestiged, yet again, I cannot test it properly for a while. Besides fuck those things anyway, machine pistols for life.
Hmm I revisited the UMP last night and find I do quite well with it when I don't get myself into run laps around the map mode. I do enjoy stopping power UMPs ability to take people out from distances you likely have no buisiness killing people.

I'm hopefully Prestiging tonight. About halfway there. Only thing that I want to do prior to Prestiging is to get Mastery on the RPD, just need something like 20 more kills with the acog attached. Wanted to master at least one weapon.

Just to make sure you're not getting your hopes up a level too early like I've seen others do, you don't prestige when you hit 70; it's when you've been 70 and earned enough XP to hypothetically hit 71.

Most people use the magnum because either A) it only takes 2 shots to kill or--more likely--B) you can use the First Recon build, which already includes a tac knife, and use that build to unlock the tac knife for your custom classes.
Killing with the magnum tacknife counts as a magnum kill. It won't count towards challenges until you unlock the weapon itself, however. This is how Onlyusemeblades unlocked the tacknife without ever firing a gun.
Regarding the 25 kill nuke, I don't doubt that the people he was playing against were bad, but I've seen several 18+ killstreaks with just knives (I would argue that Throwing Knife also counts). I think it's innovative gameplay and is fun to actually watch.

Nope, hit 70 last night, ran around a bit with the AK. Got a glorius kill on invasion by shooting through a wall hitting a guys claymore and killing him via the explosion.

My point of view exactly. Running a witch build on maps like Favela or Highrise is easy. Doing it on Wasteland or Derail takes a ton of focus, and seeing it done well is entertaining.

Probably playing some real bad players. If I notice a Witch running around, I pull out the SPAS or the M1 and that puts an end to that shit.
Guess I can stop harassing you on Steam eh?
